FAT REMOVAL FROM THE LOWER FACE AND JOWLS
To slim the appearance of the lower cheek area, also known as the lower face and jowls, Vaser Liposuction offers a gentler technique when compared to traditional liposuction methods. This surgical procedure removes unwanted excess fat from suitable areas on the face and body. Vaser Liposuction uses ultrasound energy to heat and liquefy the fat cells, before they are suctioned out of the body with a cannula via small incision sites.
Having liposuction surgery on your lower face and jowls involves the doctor inserting a fine ultrasound probe underneath the skin and into the fatty tissue layer of your lower cheek area. The specialised Vaser probe uses ultrasound technology to melt fat cells and enhance the tightening of collagen fibres. The procedure removes targeted fat deposits for cheek reduction and lower face augmentation, reshaping the area to create a slimmer appearance.
Saggy jowls can occur for multiple reasons including, but not limited to:
The Vaser technology used during liposuction surgery can help tighten the skin by enhancing the retraction of collagen fibres, and melting the fat pad deposits that can make sagging in the lower face more noticeable. Wrinkle Reduction Treatments to help reduce pulling on the neck muscles, along with Volume Enhancement Treatments, can be applied along the jawline and in the neck for overall rejuvenation. Depending on your individual needs, skin quality, having realistic expectations, and your initial consultations with the doctor, some patients may require plastic surgery procedures such as a traditional facelift or neck lift procedure performed by a plastic surgeon.
When having a Vaser Liposuction procedure, tiny incision sites are made directly under the double chin area and behind both ears, to allow the insertion of a small Vaser probe. This specialised probe melts the unwanted fat cells and generates heat to support the collagen fibres to contract, enhancing tightening of the skin. Depending on factors including if additional areas are also being treated, a lower face and jowl liposuction procedure usually takes around 30-60 minutes to complete.

CONSIDERING CHEEK LIPOSUCTION
Suitability is determined by the doctor during the initial consultations, and not all patients who wish to have lower face liposuction surgery are good candidates. The following factors will be considered by the doctor; however these are just a guide, and are not a guarantee you will be a suitable candidate:
At Cosmos Clinic Sydney, we understand that patients will consider the cost of cosmetic surgery when deciding if they want to have a liposuction procedure. As each patient is different, undergoing lower cheek reduction surgery with Vaser Lipo does not follow a one-price-fits-all cost structure. As a guide, the price starts from a minimum base price of $5,000, however these costs can vary depending on multiple factors including:
If you wish to treat multiple areas on the lower face, cheeks, jawline, chin, and neck, or if you wish to combine facial lipo with liposuction on other areas of your body, you can expect your total costs to increase. THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE PROCEDURE
During your initial consultations at Cosmos Clinic Sydney NSW, your doctor will give you specific pre and post-operative information, with instructions provided for your individual circumstances. If you smoke you will be asked to quit smoking, and avoid certain medications and supplements. We also recommend taking steps before surgery to prepare for your recovery. This may include purchasing some comfortable clothing, filling prescriptions, and arranging for someone to pick you up from the hospital after the procedure, to stay with you overnight and all the following day.
During the procedure, IV sedation is used (either twilight anaesthetic or general anaesthesia) in combination with a local anaesthetic numbing solution in each treatment area. Post-operative discomfort is to be expected and can be managed with the medications prescribed by your Cosmos Clinic doctor.
You will return home on the same day that you have your procedure. During the recovery time period you are required to wear a compression garment for at least 72 hours full-time, and then part-time for a minimum three weeks. The longer you wear your garments the better. We advise sleeping with your head elevated for at least two weeks, and committing to all recovery requirements including:
Strenuous exercise should be avoided for six weeks, and depending on multiple individual factors, the average patient usually returns to most of their normal daily activities around 5 days post-surgery. This recovery time is just a guide and is not a guarantee, your anticipated individual downtime will be discussed with the doctor during your consultations.
Treatment results will start to become visible around 2 months post-procedure, and depending on the individual, the final results achieved can continue to improve for up to 6 months following Vaser Liposuction surgery.
All liposculpture surgeries including Vaser Lipo are invasive procedures, and all invasive treatments carry inherent risks, side effects, and complications. During the initial consultations at Cosmos Clinic Sydney, your doctor will inform you of the associated risks and complications from having a liposuction procedure. Some potential side effects to consider can include but are not limited to:
Strictly adhering to the aftercare instructions following surgery is a requirement. All patients should closely monitor their health throughout the recovery time period, and immediately notify the doctor with any questions or concerns.
Any surgical procedure involving incisions carries the potential risk for scarring to occur. For facial liposuction, small incisions are placed behind each ear and underneath the chin. Specialised silicone scar creams can be used, and the appearance of these tiny incisions generally fade over time, based on individual factors.
Whilst the number of fat cells in each treatment area are permanently reduced using Vaser Liposuction, there will always be fat cells remaining. These remaining fat cells will still be able to shrink and expand with any subsequent weight gain or weight loss. Additionally, it is imperative that all patients considering liposuction surgery understand that having the treatment does not stop the ageing process from occurring, and as time passes, everyone will experience facial shape changes and sagging skin in their lower cheeks, jawline, chin, and neck.
Lower face liposuction and buccal fat removal are both cosmetic procedures to create a slimmer appearance of the face for suitable candidates. Vaser Liposuction can reduce unwanted excess fat in the lower cheeks, jowls, chin, and neck areas, removing the treated fat cells via tiny incision sites. Whereas buccal fat pad removal specifically treats the mid face area, removing the fat pad deposits located in the mid cheeks, via openings created on the inside of the mouth.
Having buccal fat removal surgery is not a suitable treatment option for everyone, and suitability is decided by the doctor during the initial consultations. Depending on multiple factors including your individual facial structure, aesthetic goals, and result expectations, a buccal fat pad removal procedure may be an option for you. Before deciding to have surgery, all patients must understand that our faces lose volume and subcutaneous fat as we age, and buccal fat removal can cause the lower face and cheeks to look too hollow and gaunt over time.
Using a combination of local anaesthetic and sedation, your doctor will make small incisions on the inside of your cheeks and the excess fat pads removed. The surgical openings inside the mouth will be closed using dissolvable sutures. As the incisions are located on the inside of the mouth, there is no visible scarring made on the outside of the cheeks.
It is completely normal to experience swelling, bruising, and soreness immediately after having the buccal fat pads removed from the lower cheek area. Depending on each individual patient, the downtime symptoms gradually subside over the next few weeks following surgery. The final results achieved will vary, and the cheek area requires time to heal before the new face shape fully settles.
All invasive cosmetic procedures including buccal fat removal have possible risks, side effects, and complications which must always be considered. The potential side effects from having surgery including infections, bleeding, poor healing, asymmetrical results, and the risk of injury to the facial nerves, will be discussed in detail during your initial consultations with the doctor.
