Having a “baby face” can negatively impact a person’s self-image and self-confidence. Luckily, a quick outpatient procedure known as Vaser liposuction can help patients eliminate excess buccal fat pads and achieve a more refined, symmetrical and chiseled profile.

THE PROCEDURE
Buccal fat treatment has become very popular with younger people to achieve slimmer facial contours and the appearance of higher cheekbones. It’s typically sought after by those in their 20’s and 30’s with round cheeks or “baby face.” A person doesn’t have to be overweight to have excess buccal fat. In fact, round, chubby cheeks can be a genetic trait, occurring even in slim and athletic individuals.
Why choose chubby cheeks (buccal fat) treatment, Sydney?
You may choose buccal fat liposuction because it’s minimally-invasive and can be performed in less than an hour. It’s done under twilight sedation, there’s no general anaesthetic required and you get to go home shortly after treatment. The results are permanent, although patients are advised to keep a steady weight as any weight gain or loss can affect the final outcome.
Who is the best candidate for chubby cheeks (buccal fat) treatment?
Buccal fat removal is typically recommended for patients who are over 18 years of age. This ensures the face is fully developed (so less risk of complications in the long-term). Below are the general guidelines that make someone a good candidate for buccal fat liposuction:
How is the treatment performed?
Vaser liposuction involves making tiny incisions (usually under the earlobes) then injecting a tumescent solution which contains a local anaesthetic. This is followed by inserting a thin ultrasound-emitting probe to liquefy fat cells in the cheeks first before they are permanently suctioned away. Ultrasound energy has an added benefit of tightening the skin by stimulating the contraction of collagen fibers and production of firmer, healthier skin.
What to expect after the procedure
It’s normal to experience some swelling, bruising, soreness and burning sensations immediately after treatment. These symptoms are only temporary and should gradually subside over the next couple of weeks. Most people can resume their normal activities in 2-3 days: however, a full recovery and final results from cheek liposuction may require up to a month.

Can I have other procedures with buccal fat removal?
Buccal fat removal can be performed with other treatments – both surgical and non-surgical. If you have a naturally wide jaw then your surgeon may perform muscle relaxing injections to the masseters as well to help achieve a slimmer jawline. Sometimes fillers can be used to enhance the cheekbones and create a “model” appearance.
Is buccal fat removal right for me?
Depending on your facial structure and aesthetic goals, buccal fat liposuction can help you achieve a slimmer and more contoured profile. The procedure is not for everyone, however. Keep in mind that as we age, our face loses volume and subcutaneous fat. It’s possible for your cheeks to look too hollow or deep after 10-20 years. It’s best to schedule a consultation with an experienced buccal fat liposuction specialist to know for sure if this procedure is right for you.
