Brazilian Butt Lift

Quick facts

Brazilian Butt Lift (Buttock Augmentation) uses your own purified fat to give your bottom a more lifted, larger appearance. During this surgical procedure, liposuction is performed on various areas of the body, and the grafted fat cells are then re-injected (via fat transfer) into the bottom to create the desired smooth ‘S’ shape.

  • Uses Vaser Liposuction, which allows for greater than 80% of the fat cells to survive when transferred to the buttocks

  • 600 – 800mls of fat, on average, is reinjected into each buttock cheek

  • 1 week off work required, with no pressure on the buttock area for 2 weeks

  • Daily lymphatic massages for 1 week post surgery and review of fat graft

  • Costs start from $7,000, with average price of $11,000

Brazilian Butt Lift

Brazilian Butt Augmentation/Lift prices vary depending on your overall situation, expectations and the degree of liposuction being performed.

As a guide:

  • Brazilian Butt Lift/Augmentation price starts from $7,000
  • The average price is $11,000, including performing additional areas of Vaser Liposuction
  • Initial consultation is between $150 - $220

  • What is a Brazilian Butt Lift/Augmentation?
    • Buttock Augmentation (or Butt Lift surgery) assists in reshaping your behind to your desired shape. This plastic surgery procedure can create the ultimate “Brazilian Butt”, and it involves removing fat from one part of the body, and placing it back into the buttock area. Buttock Augmentation/Lifts have been used across the globe to transform behinds into something beautiful and appealing – using either your own fat or butt implants.

At Cosmos Clinic, we prefer to use your own fat during this cosmetic surgery because it is more precise, gives a more natural look, and there is less chance of rotation or infection.

  • The Procedure. What does it involve?
    • During a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), Liposuction is used to remove your own fat – mainly from the abdomen, thighs or back. The fat is purified, cleaned, and then these healthy fat cells are re-injected into your buttocks. The result is a lifted, perky and shapely behind.

The length of this cosmetic procedure will vary depending on the fat grafting process and the amount of fat required to be extracted via liposuction. Both procedures can be performed on the same day.

  • Where exactly is the fat injected?
    • We inject most of the fat into the upper two thirds of the buttock to achieve buttock projection and the smooth ‘S’ Shape.

We may also inject some fat into the side of the buttock to achieve a smooth ‘S’ shape. This allows for beautiful body contouring at all angles.

  • How much fat do we inject?
    • On average, our plastic surgeons inject 600 – 800 mls per buttock cheek; and in some cases, we may inject up to 1L of puried fat into each cheek.

  • What areas of the body can fat be extracted from?
    • Essentially, fat can be extracted from anywhere on the body that it appears. Typical places include the abdomen, thighs and back. Other areas include the upper arms, hips or breasts.

Ideally, good candidates for a Brazilian Butt Lift will have fat removed from the love handles and lower back to deliver a stunning ‘V’-shape from the back. This ‘V’ will also make the ‘S’ shape of the buttock more accentuated.

  • I don’t have much fat elsewhere on my body. Can I still get the procedure done?
    • There are options for patients who don’t carry a lot of excess fat (or those who have undergone significant weight loss). The first is to gain weight (using a healthy approach) until there is enough fat that can be removed. The second is to be referred to a surgeon for buttock implants. However, fat injections provide the most natural results and carry a very low risk of infection.

  • Can I use someone elses fat?
    • No, this can give rise to infection and rejection of the fat by your body.

  • How much of the fat will survive the transfer process?
    • It is worth noting that with traditional Liposuction techniques, less than 50% of the fat extracted will survive the transfer process to the buttock. At Cosmos Clinic, we use Vaser Liposuction, which is a gentlier approach to removing the fat compared to traditional liposuction. The survival rate of the fat using these techniques is greater than 80%.1

  • Who are the best candidates for a Buttock Augmentation/Lift?
    • The best candidate for a Buttock Augmentation/ Lift are those who need shape and definition to their behind, and have reserves of fat elsewhere on their body; namely the abdomen, thighs or back. Complaints such as “my butt is too flat” or “I want a round and prominent butt” are good reasons for this procedure.

  • Will I experience any pain?
    • The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia, so you will not feel any pain during the procedure.

Pain relief is provided post operatively to minimise any discomfort.

  • What can I expect after the Brazilian Butt Lift procedure?
    • Recovery generally takes around 5 – 7 days. The surgeon generally injects slightly more than what is needed as not all of the fat will be taken in by your body. As a result, your initial reaction may be that your rear end looks swollen or bigger than expected; but this will subside slighting at the final results.

Generally, over 80% of the injected fat cells survive.

A Buttock Augmentation/ Lift will require you to wear a compression garment for 3 weeks full time, and then 3 weeks part time. For 2 weeks following the procedure, you will be required to avoid sitting on your bottom (you can sit forward on your thighs) or placing pressure on the area for prolonged periods.

You will need to stay on antibiotics for 10 days after the procedure.

You will also be required to attend the clinic for daily post operative massages for the first week.

It is also very important to note that post the operation, you will experience some swelling and bruising at the operation site.

  • Results. What and when can I expect them?
    • Results can be seen immediately, however true results are seen at around the 6 week mark after all swelling has subsided.

  • Are there any risks of complications?
    • There are inherent risks and complications as there are with any surgery. You should be aware of the potential risks and discuss any concerns you may have with your doctor before your surgery is performed.

  • Brazilian Butt Lift is becoming increasingly popular in the media. Where can I read more about it?
