THE RESULTS
Lip augmentation involves injecting the lips with dermal filler, a cosmetic injectable designed to fill in lines and restore volume to the skin. Usually referred to as lip filler, this treatment has become extremely popular in recent years. This treatment works by imitating a sugar molecule that naturally occurs in the body, working to bind water, transport nutrients and regulate the skin’s water balance. When injected into the lips, this gel-like substance instantly plumps the appearance of your pout.
However, dermal fillers aren’t just for the lips. Many patients opt for this treatment to enhance their facial contours by restoring volume to the cheeks, temples, chin, jaw, tear troughs and more.
Lip fillers are for more than just creating influencer-large lips. Below are some of the reasons to consider this highly versatile treatment:
Lip fillers have become so popular for a number of reasons. For one, lip enhancement can be performed in as little as 15 to 30 minutes and can even be performed during your lunch break. This makes cosmetic injectables perfect for busy patients. In just one quick visit, you can achieve a dramatic increase in lip volume, gaining back your confidence in an instant.
However, with so many cosmetic clinics offering lip filler treatments, it can be hard to determine where to go. At Cosmos Aesthetics, all of our cosmetic injectors are medical professionals with specific training in lip filler treatments. One of our injectors has even been appointed as an Allergan National Trainer (a prestigious title held by less than 20 doctors nationwide.
When searching for a cosmetic injector, be sure to look out for:
Lip fillers can plump your pout in an instant to create a beautiful, balanced lip shape. In addition, this patient-favourite treatment offers numerous other benefits, such as:

THE TREATMENT
During a lip filler procedure, numbing cream and an ice pack is used to numb the treatment area to help minimise any discomfort. Either a doctor or registered cosmetic nurse will then inject the product into the lips and lip area – resulting in beautiful, luscious lips. While you may feel a slight pinch as the product is injected, the procedure is relatively painless. Once the product is injected, your injector will apply pressure to the treatment area with gauze. Immediate results are seen after the treatment.
Dermal fillers are natural complex sugars that give volume to the skin. When used for lip enhancement, the filler helps to restore volume and body and define the border of the lips. A lip enhancement can effectively improve the overall appearance and beauty of one’s facial features.
At Cosmos Aesthetics, we only inject the highest quality of dermal filler products sourced from one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical manufacturers. These dermal fillers are made from natural substances and are commonly used to augment the lips. Product selection will vary according to the patient’s requirements and their desired outcome.

POST TREATMENT
One of the best things about dermal lip filler is that it is a relatively simple treatment that can be performed during your lunch break, after work or at the start of your weekend. As a walk-in, walk-out procedure, patients are free to resume their normal activities immediately after treatment. However, as the lips and mouth are sensitive areas, you will likely experience minor swelling for approximately one to two days following the procedure. In some cases, mild swelling and bruising may persist for up to one week around the injection site. You will also need to avoid wearing make-up for the first 24 hours following the procedure.
If swelling and tenderness is causing discomfort, we recommend applying a cool compress to the lips for ten minutes every hour. Be sure not to apply the ice or cool compress directly to the lips and wrap it in a small towel instead. Avoiding any strenuous exercise or excessive heat for a minimum of 24 hours can also help keep tenderness and swelling under control.
Patients should also stay hydrated following a lip filler treatment and avoid smoking and alcohol for at least 24 hours. If pain relief is required for whatever reason, paracetamol should be taken instead of aspirin or ibuprofen. However, your cosmetic injector will provide more thorough aftercare instructions during your treatment.
Results of this cosmetic procedure are seen immediately after the initial treatment; however, full results are evident approximately one week after all the swelling subsides. Results last approximately for six to 12 months and can vary from patient to patient.
The cost of your dermal lip filler treatment will depend on a variety of factors, including the amount of filler required and the type of filler used. At Cosmos Aesthetics, we understand that every patient is different and will require a personalised treatment plan to address their cosmetic concerns and goals. The best way to determine how much your lip augmentation treatment will cost is to book a consultation with one of our experienced cosmetic injectors.

If you are concerned by the size of your lips and wish to boost volume, minimise lip lines, define the lip border and enhance your lip shape, then you’re likely a good candidate for lip filler. Both men and women can benefit from lip injections, although you will need to be at least 18 years old.
Advertising guidelines in Australia prohibit us from stating which dermal lip filler brands we use. Since it is classified as prescription medicine, only a doctor can prescribe dermal fillers. Given this, you must have a consultation at our clinic to determine whether lip injections are suitable for you. At Cosmos Aesthetics, we use high-quality dermal lip fillers from a range of well-trusted brands. If you’d like to learn more, we can talk freely about your options during a consultation.
Yes, many patients choose to combine their lip fillers with dermal fillers to other parts of the face, such as the cheeks, jawline, or tear troughs. Some also opt for anti-wrinkle injectors for a full facial rejuvenation. As an anti-ageing strategy, lip and dermal fillers add volume and shape to the face, while anti-wrinkle injections minimise fine lines and wrinkles. You can learn more about whether other injectables are suitable for you during your consultation.
Most patients tolerate lip fillers very well, even after years of repeated treatments. However, just like any other medical procedure, there are some temporary side effects to be aware of, including swelling, redness, and bruising. These normally resolve within a few hours or days.
Some patients may develop some rarer complications, such as infection or lumps. The good news is that lip filler can be instantly dissolved with a special enzyme in cases where patients need to reverse the filler to address these complications.
In some extremely rare cases, lip filler can be injected into the blood vessels instead of beneath the skin. This can block blood supply and lead to skin death and, in severe cases, blindness. This is why you should always see a highly experienced cosmetic injector who knows how to avoid these complications.
Keep in mind that lip injections are not permanent and will eventually be absorbed by the body. How fast this happens will depend on factors such as the type of filler used and your skin type, lifestyle, and age. Generally, you can expect lip filler to last for around six months, although some patients metabolise the product quicker or slower than this. At Cosmos Aesthetics, we usually recommend scheduling top-up treatments every six to 12 months.
There are numerous things that you should do to prepare for a lip filler treatment. The most important is to avoid anything that may thin the blood for around a week beforehand, including alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, omega 3, and vitamin E. If you are prone to cold sores, we recommend talking to your doctor about taking prophylactic medication before treatment. If you have had a recent COVID-19 vaccination, you will need to wait at least two weeks before scheduling a lip injection treatment.
At Cosmos Aesthetics, we always numb the lips before administering dermal filler injections, which keeps the treatment relatively comfortable. Many patients report feeling a slight pressure or stinging sensation as the product is injected; however, whether or not you find it painful will depend on the area treated and your own pain tolerance.
If you are unhappy with your lip filler results, you have a few options. If you’d prefer an even more augmented look or need to balance some asymmetry, your injector can administer additional dermal lip filler. Alternatively, if you are completely unhappy with how the filler looks, we can inject an enzyme into the treatment area that dissolves the product completely.
Every patient will require a different amount of dermal lip filler, depending on their natural lip shape and desired results. If you are new to filler or looking for a natural enhancement, we usually suggest beginning with a single syringe or ml of filler. However, if you find that this is not enough, we encourage you to return to Cosmos Aesthetics to determine whether an additional ml of filler can help you achieve your aesthetic goals. During your consultation, your cosmetic injector will discuss how much dermal filler will best help you achieve your preferred outcome.
Aside from the lips, we use dermal fillers to plump and soften various other areas of the face, including the:
