Cost of Liposuction

At Cosmos Clinic, we follow the Medical Board of Australia’s guidelines for all surgical procedures, including cosmetic surgeries like Vaser liposuction. Since each patient is unique, the cost of liposuction depends on individual needs, such as the area treated and the complexity of the procedure. This means it’s not possible to provide a one-size-fits-all price online. Instead, exact costs are outlined during your consultation.

Does private health insurance or Medicare cover liposuction?

For most cases, liposuction is considered a cosmetic procedure, which means it is not covered by Medicare or private health insurance. However, in rare instances where the procedure is medically necessary, rebates might apply. We recommend checking with your private health insurer to explore any potential coverage options.

What factors contribute to liposuction costs?

Liposuction costs typically include the following:

  • Consultation Fees: To meet Australian guidelines, you’ll need two consultations before deciding to have surgery. At Cosmos Clinic, consultation fees start from $200, varying by clinic.
  • Surgeon Fees: This covers the expertise of the surgeon and is based on your unique needs, such as the size and number of areas being treated. The starting cost for one area is $6,000, with additional areas starting from $2,000 each.
  • Anaesthesia Fees: Depending on the length and complexity of your surgery, anaesthetic costs start from around $750 per hour or a flat rate. This will be explained during your consultation.
  • Hospital Fees: All procedures are performed in accredited day surgery hospitals. If applicable, any extra hospital charges will be detailed in your personalised cost breakdown.
  • Compression Garments: Wearing compression garments after surgery helps with recovery. Your doctor will explain how long you need to wear them and include the cost in your quote.
  • Follow-Up Care: Recovery often involves follow-up appointments or in-clinic massages. Any included sessions and their costs will be discussed during your consultation.

What does “one area” of liposuction mean?

The cost of liposuction is calculated per area. For example:

  • The lower abdomen, upper abdomen, or both flanks count as one area.
  • If you’re treating multiple areas, the first area starts at $6,000, with additional areas costing less, starting from $2,000 each.

Am I a good candidate for liposuction?

Liposuction isn’t suitable for everyone. During your consultation, our doctors will assess if it’s the right choice for you. Here’s what they typically look for:

  • You’re in good physical and mental health.
  • You understand that liposuction isn’t a weight-loss procedure.
  • You have realistic expectations about the outcome.
  • You have good skin elasticity in the treatment areas.
  • You’re aware of the recovery time and potential risks.
