Liposuction

Vaser Liposuction

Vaser Liposuction is a method of liposuction that uses ultrasound technology to surgically remove excess fat deposits in specific areas of the body.

  • 2-7 day recovery Compression garments for 5-6 weeks
  • Results seen in 6 weeks Results varies from patient to patient
THE RESULTS

Liposuction that results in a permanent change in body shape

Vaser Liposuction is available at all our Cosmos Clinic’s in Double Bay, Sydney, &. Vaser Liposuction can be used on all areas of the body such as the tummy, love handles, arms, legs and neck. It can also be used for man boobs (gynecomastia), breast reduction and chubby cheeks.

Patients see a permanent change in their body shape after Vaser Liposuction – fat is distributed more evenly over the whole body as the fat cells have been removed.

During the procedure, a degree of skin tightening is also achieved thanks to the Vaser technology. Those looking for a greater degree of tightening and retraction can pair Vaser Liposuction with our Skin Tightening treatment.

Subtle results may be achieved via non-surgical liposuction called CoolSculpting.

Results may vary from patient to patient. Photographs show individual outcomes and are not a guarantee of results.

THE PROCEDURE

Gently melts the fat and tightens the skin for a smooth natural result

On the day of the Vaser Liposuction procedure, patients are placed under twilight sedation. This eliminates the need for general anaesthesia and the adverse effects associated.1 However a general anaesthetic is an option (on request).

Tiny incisions are made to allow a numbing solution to be infiltrated under the skin – acting as a medium for the high energy ultrasound to react with the fatty tissue.

To minimise noticeable scars post-procedure, incisions are placed in discrete areas such as in the belly button and near the bikini line for the typical tummy liposuction.

After the infiltration, a small ultrasound probe is passed under the skin to dissolve the fatty layer before it is suctioned. Vaser Liposuction transforms the “brick” of fat into a soft material (much like a slab of butter) that facilitates the gentle removal of the fat with suctioning.

Vaser Liposuction allows the removal of more fat than traditional liposuction as it is less likely to leave clumps of unseparated fat. This ultrasound-assisted energy also stimulates collagen production which promotes skin tightening in the area treated, therefore resulting in smoother contours and avoids skin dimpling and sagging.

To achieve optimal results, patients will be re-positioned and made to stand up if necessary at intervals during the procedure, so that the surgeon can assess the fat removal from different angles.

Following the procedure, the patient will be fitted into compression garments and thoroughly assessed before being discharged home. Patients will be monitored with regular follow-up appointments including complimentary lymphatic massages to help with the swelling and recovery process.

POST SURGERY

Recovery & what to expect after the Vaser Lipo procedure

As Vaser Liposuction is performed under twilight sedation, all patients return home on the same day. The patient is placed into a compression garment to help with the healing process, skin retraction and to minimise swelling. There will be fluid seepage for about 24 hours following the procedure. The compression garments is applied for 3 weeks full time and 3 weeks part time. In most cases, the recovery from lipoplasty has minimal discomfort and very mild bruising. Most patients return to work in 2 to 5 days after the procedure. At Cosmos Clinic, we assist in the recovery process with regular follow up lymphatic massages, twice a week for 2 weeks. This assists the healing process and aids in yielding better results. To optimise your recovery process, become familiar with the do’s of Liposuction recovery:

  • Do wear your liposuction compression garments
  • Do maintain a healthy diet
  • Do listen to your body
  • Do take care of your surgical sites
  • Do attend post surgical check ups

Most of the results are obtained at 6 weeks. At this point, photos are taken to assess your progress. The final results may not be apparent for 3 – 6 months post-operatively. Strict adherence to the pre-operative and post-operative requirements is necessary in order to achieve the best possible results.

FAQs

Frequently asked

Vaser Liposuction is an advanced method of liposculpture that involves removing excess fat and contouring the body – to give smooth results. Vaser stands for “Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance”, and it is one of the gentlest methods of liposuction.

Vaser Liposuction uses an ultrasound probe that is inserted into the fat layer under the skin to melt and then remove fat cells. Traditionally, liposuction techniques were less refined and separating the excess fat before suctioning was much like trying to shatter a brick into pieces before its removal.

This meant more pain for the patient and a longer recovery time post operation. Vaser Liposuction is vastly different to this and can be likened to transforming that brick of fat into a slab of butter – thus allowing the fat to be gently removed. The high energy from the ultrasound separates the fat cells from the fibrous tissue and transforms it into a butter-like form.

The ultrasound energy also promotes skin tightening following the procedure, which reduces the chance of skin dimpling or sagging. Cosmos Clinic was the first to acquire the new Vaser 2.0 in New South Wales and we currently have the most Vaser Liposuction systems in the world.

This has allowed us to perform over 10,000 liposuction procedures in the last five years across the whole of Australia. At Cosmos Clinic, our doctors are specialists in body contouring – specifically for liposuction procedures. Our doctors have been trained by the best surgeons around the world, including Dr Alfredo Hoyos (the inventor of Vaser High Definition Liposuction) and Dr Matlock (Beverly Hills, USA).

On the day of the Vaser Liposuction procedure, patients are placed under twilight sedation. This eliminates the need for general anaesthesia and the adverse effects associated. 1 Tiny incisions are made to allow a numbing solution to be infiltrated under the skin – acting as a medium for the high energy ultrasound to react with the fatty tissue.

To minimise noticeable scars post-procedure, incisions are placed in discrete areas such as in the belly button and near the bikini line for the typical Abdominal Liposuction.

This ultrasound- assisted energy also stimulates collagen production which promotes skin tightening in the area treated. Vaser Liposuction and Vaser Hi Def Liposuction both use ultrasound technology to break apart fat deposits for easier removal. This technique leaves more refined and smoother results, with less pain and less downtime. Vaser Liposuction shapes the body by getting rid of any uneven pockets of fat.

This ultimately gives a slimmer, toner look to the body. Vaser High Definition Liposuction goes one step further in the process of body sculpting. This technique removes fat from around and on-top of the muscle groups to enhance the visibility of underlying muscles.

This form of liposuction produces ultra-defined results and guarantees a more athletic appearance. The best candidates for this treatment have thick skin, good skin tone, and can feel the muscles underneath the skin, when contracting. For example, Vaser High Definition would remove the small amounts of fat in-between the abs, to bring out a perfect six pack.

Vaser Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure and the advantages include: Quicker recovery: Due to the gentle nature of the ultrasound, this form of liposuction is less traumatic and has less downtime for patients Skin Retraction: Ultrasonic energy promotes skin retraction, therefore tightening the skin and providing smooth contours Precision: Delivery of precise body contouring where both small and large volumes of fat can be extracted from different areas of the body.

This allows the surgeon to be more precise while sculpting muscle definition Fat Transfer: Fat tissue removed during the procedure is of a high quality and can be used for fat grafting procedures on the same patient. (e.g. during a Brazilian Butt Lift or a buttock enhancement).

Safe and minimally invasive: A safe, minimally invasive way of fat reduction, and can be done as a day procedure under twilight sedation. This not only avoids the complications of general anaesthesia but also allows the patient to be re-positioned and stood up during the procedure. Liposuction has the additional benefit of kickstarting or continuing a healthy lifestyle.

Traditional Liposuction vs. Vaser Liposuction With Vaser Liposuction, there are three main stages. First, tumescent solution is injected into the areas about to be liposuctioned. This first stage numbs those areas and preps the body for stage two. The second stage is the use of the Vaser probe.

This probe utilises Vaser technology to melt the fat underneath the skin and produces heat to stimulate skin tightening. Thirdly, the fat is then suctioned out of the body in a liquid-like consistency. With Traditional Liposuction, the middle stage is skipped.

This means that the fat melting stage is bypassed. To explain in non-technical terms, Traditional Liposuction is like sucking out a brick of fat through a straw, whereas Vaser Liposuction melts the fat, making it similar to sucking butter out through a straw. This extra separation stage used during Vaser Liposuction means there is less trauma to the body; therefore, creating a gentler healing process and overall better results.

Liposoft vs. Vaser Liposuction Liposoft uses water to separate fat cells. This means that there is no heat given off when Liquid Liposuction is used. Therefore, unlike Vaser Liposuction, you will not get the skin tightening benefits that the Vaser probe offers.

Laser Liposuction vs. Vaser Liposuction Laser Liposuction, as the name suggests, uses light to melt fat. However, because it utilises light as a fat melting medium, Laser Liposuction can only be used for small areas (such as the neck). This technique is unable to melt large volumes of fat, therefore meaning it cannot effective treat areas like the abdomen and flanks.

Additionally, Vaser Liposuction gives off more uniformed heat that that of Laser Liposuction. Bodytite vs. Vaser Liposuction The Bodytite Liposuction technique utilises radio frequency. This means that Bodytite works in a similar way to Vaser Liposuction. However, the most noticeable difference is that Vaser Liposuction causes less trauma to the tissues – therefore minimising risks and recovery time. The heat produced and used by Vaser is gentler and more uniformed, meaning the procedure is also less painful.

Abdomen The abdomen can be divided into the upper tummy (the area from below the ribs to the belly button) and the lower tummy area (between the belly button and bikini line). Vaser Liposuction can be performed on one or both areas at the same time. Incision sites in these areas are placed discreetly in the belly button and near the bikini line.

Vaser Liposuction promotes good skin retraction in most cases; however, some patients may need a tummy tuck if they have significantly saggy skin. Our doctors will advise accordingly on the treatment options best suited to you in consultation. Flanks (Love Handles) Flanks, commonly known as love handles, sit above the hip bone area and are a frequent concern for patients.

They can hang over your jeans and increase the width of your waist line. Incisions are hidden within your underwear area. Inner & Outer Thighs and Knees Attractive legs are desired by many, although slender, proportionate thighs are not something everyone is genetically blessed with.

Fat can be unevenly distributed throughout the inner and outer thighs, causing discomfort. For example, chafing of the skin can occur from the constant friction of inner thighs rubbing against each other. This can lead to the development of sores and even infection.

Front of Thighs The front of the thigh is a difficult area to treat. The best candidates are people with toned skin and mostly fat in the area. Often people confuse bulky muscle in this area for fat. Arms Removing stubborn fat from the arms can give a slimmer and more proportioned appearance to the body, especially in women.

Fat tends to be in and around the triceps (i.e the back of arms) and laterals (i.e. the side of the arms). Back Fat distribution on the back can be divided into several areas namely the upper back (above the bra line), and lower back or area below the bra line.

These areas are difficult to shift despite exercise and can be challenging for the surgeon to treat due to the fibrous nature of the fat. Vaser turns the fibrous fat to a ‘buttery’ consistency, allowing easy suctioning and subsequently, creating a desirable ‘V’ shaped back.

Female Breasts Large breasts can cause discomfort, back aches, difficulty with exercise and they can make a woman self-conscious. A Breast Reduction not only removes the excess fat in this area, but it can also create a lift (for a more youthful, well-proportioned appearance).

While most women can benefit from this minimally invasive procedure, a consultation with one of our experienced doctors will determine if this treatment or traditional Breast Reduction surgery is more suitable for you. Male Breasts aka Man Boobs Man boobs can cause anxiety for many men.

It is caused by excessive development of breast tissue with or without extra fat tissue. Usually genetically predetermined, man boobs can’t be treated with exercise. Vaser Liposuction gently removes the fat in this area and removes the gland. Further sculpting on the chest can also be done after treating man boobs.

Face & Cheeks Some people, especially of Asian descent, are genetically predisposed to facial fat. This can give them a “chipmunk” appearance (even if the person is slim). Vaser Liposuction can sculpt the face; giving a more toned appearance. It can be combined with Neck Lift Liposuction for a more youthful look.

Jaw & Neck Line Fat deposits in the jawline, jowls and neck area can occur genetically and tend to exacerbate with age. This gives rise to a wattle neck and leads to a “wattle” aged appearance – especially when coupled with sagging and wrinkled skin. Vaser Liposuction is one of the safest and most effective methods of removing fat from the jowls and neck area.

Buttocks & Banana Roll Having a well-proportioned behind is something many people desire. This is often unrealised with the position of fat causing a droopy buttock or “banana rolls”. This appears in the area between the curve of the buttock and start of the thighs.

While a smaller buttock is achievable with liposuction, a beautiful well proportioned behind is something that requires skill and artistic flair on the surgeon’s behalf. Vaser Liposuction, when in experienced hands, can provide smooth and symmetric results. It is possible to undertake multiple treatment areas in one procedure.

Ultrasonic liposuction, or Vaser, is not a treatment for obesity or weight loss. However, it is safe as a surgical procedure to remove larger volumes of fat.

As Vaser Liposuction is performed under twilight sedation, all patients return home on the same day. The patient is placed into a compression garment to help with the healing process, skin retraction and to minimise swelling. There will be fluid seepage for about 24 hours following the procedure.

To optimise your recovery process, become familiar with the do’s of Liposuction recovery: Do wear your liposuction compression garments Do maintain a healthy diet Do listen to your body Do take care of your surgical sites Do attend post surgical check ups

The actual number of fat cells in a person’s body remains stable during their lifetime. Unless we become grossly obese, you do not grow more fat cells after adolescence. When the fat cells are removed by liposuction, it is very difficult to gain fat back in those areas.

Muscle definition will remain even if you put weight on. These findings were published in the August issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. The full report can be read here. For more information see Fat Facts After Liposuction

Ultrasonic liposuction stimulates the formation of new collagen fibres. This allows the skin to retract – resulting in tighter, firmer skin.

Most of the results are obtained at 6 weeks. At this point, photos are taken to assess your progress. The final results may not be apparent for 3 – 6 months post-operatively. Strict adherence to the pre-operative and post-operative requirements is necessary in order to achieve the best possible results.
