Liposuction in the Gold Coast Improves Body Contours Permanently

Patients can experience permanent improvement in body shape after Vaser Liposuction – fat is distributed more evenly as excess fat cells have been removed.

Vaser Liposuction features advanced ultrasound technology that also tightens skin in addition to removing fat. If a patient has a lot of sagging skin, however, we recommend pairing Vaser Liposuction with our Renuvion Skin Tightening treatments.

We also offer another non-surgical liposuction procedure called CoolSculpting.

Gently Removes Fat with the Added Benefit of Tighter Skin

A general anaesthetic is usually not required with Vaser Liposuction. Instead, patients are placed under twilight sedation. This means that they are awake during treatment but won’t feel any pain. Not going under general anaesthetic reduces the chances of developing the complications normally associated with cosmetic surgery. (Note: a general anaesthetic is available upon request).

At the start of the Vaser Liposuction, small incisions are made to allow a numbing solution to be injected under the skin. The numbing solution also acts as a medium that allows the ultrasound energy to break down stubborn fat. To hide scarring, surgical incisions are placed in discreet areas of the body. Some examples are the belly button or near the bikini line in the case of tummy liposuction.

Next, a small ultrasound probe or cannula is inserted under the skin to dissolve the fat cells and make the suction process easier. Vaser Liposuction transforms the “brick” of fat into a soft material (much like melting a slab of butter) to facilitate the removal of fat.

The numbing solution turns the fat into a homogeneous liquid that’s much less likely to clump. In fact, the biggest advantage of Vaser Liposuction is that the fat removal process is easier and less invasive than traditional liposuction.1 The ultrasound energy also stimulates collagen production, promoting skin tightening in the treatment area. 2

To achieve the best results possible, patients may be re-positioned during the procedure. This allows the doctor to assess and remove fatty tissue from different angles.

Before being discharged, patients will be thoroughly assessed and sent home with a compression garment. After their Vaser Liposuction Procedure, patients will also be monitored with regular follow-up appointments and lymphatic drainage massage to reduce any side effects and speed up the recovery process.

What is the Recovery Process Like After Vaser Liposuction?

Unlike traditional liposuction, there is no overnight stay required with Vaser liposuction. It’s performed under twilight sedation so all patients can return home the same day. To help facilitate the recovery, all patients are fitted with compression garments. Wearing them also helps with skin retraction and minimises swelling. There may be fluid seepage for 3-5 days following the procedure, which is perfectly normal. The compression garments are worn for three weeks full-time and then three weeks part-time. In most cases, the recovery from Vaser Liposuction is minimal, although some minor bruising may occur.

Regular follow-up and lymphatic drainage massage are performed twice a week for two weeks to help in the recovery process. Most patients can return to work one week after treatment. Patients can expect results to become noticeable approximately six weeks after Vaser liposuction. At this point, photos are taken to gauge your progress. The final results may take up to three to six months to appear post-procedure.

Strict adherence to the preoperative and postoperative instructions is necessary in order to achieve the best possible results. To optimise your recovery, please become familiar with the following do’s of liposuction recovery:

    • Do wear your liposuction compression garments
    • Do maintain a healthy diet
    • Do listen to your body
    • Do take care of your surgical sites
    • Do attend post-surgical check ups

*Results may vary from patient to patient.
**All photos are of patients from Cosmos Clinic, and all ‘after’ images are taken 6 weeks post operation.

What areas can Vaser Liposuction treat?

The abdominal region can be divided into two sections: the upper stomach (between the ribs and belly button) and the lower stomach (between the belly button and bikini line). At Cosmos Clinic Gold Coast, we use Vaser liposuction to address one or both of these areas simultaneously. When performing abdominal liposuction, our doctors strategically hide incisions in the belly button and near the bikini line. Vaser liposuction generally promotes good skin retraction, however, patients with significant skin sagging may be better suited to a tummy tuck procedure. To learn which option is right for you, our liposuction doctors on the Gold Coast can advise during a consultation.

Many patients struggle with arm fat around the triceps (backs of the arms) and laterals (sides of the arms). By removing unwanted fat from these areas via liposuction, you can enjoy a slimmer, more proportionate arm contour.

Like the abdomen, fat distribution on the back can be divided into two sections: the upper back (above the bra line) and the lower back (below the bra line). The back is known to be a tricky area to treat: not only is the area resistant to exercise but, due to the fibrous nature of the fat, it is also challenging for liposuction doctors. With our Vaser liposuction procedure, we can turn this fibrous fat to a more buttery consistency, allowing for easier suctioning of fat.

Also known as love handles, flanks sit above the hip bone area and are a common area of concern. Love handles often hang over your jeans and can add considerable width to your waistline. When operating on the flanks, your liposuction doctor will hide incisions within the underwear line.

Inner & Outer Thighs and Knees

While many patients desire slimmer, more attractive legs, we aren’t all genetically blessed with proportionate thighs. Fat is frequently distributed unevenly throughout the inner and outer thighs, which leads to patient discomfort. For example, the constant friction of the inner thighs rubbing against each other often causes skin chafing and can even result in sores and infection.

    Front of Thighs

Liposuction to the front of the thighs is best suited to patients with toned skin and plenty of fat, as this area can be challenging to treat. People frequently confuse bulky muscle in this area for fat, so a consultation at our Gold Coast Clinic is the best way to determine whether liposuction can address your concerns.

    Buttocks and Banana Roll

The dream of a well-proportioned behind is often left unrealised when the position of fat causes a drooping buttock or “banana roll”. This appears in the area between the curve of the buttock and the start of the thighs. Achieving a smaller bottom is very possible with liposuction, however, it does require skill and artistic flair on the doctor’s behalf. Vaser Liposuction, when in our experienced doctor’s hands, can provide smooth and symmetric results.

    Female Breasts

Overly large breasts can cause discomfort, exercise difficulties and backaches, and affect the confidence of many women. Breast reduction via liposuction can not only remove excess fat from this area but create a lift for a more youthful, proportionate figure. While this minimally invasive alternative is a great fit for many women, a consultation with our Gold Coast liposuction doctors is recommended to determine whether liposuction or a traditional breast reduction is more suitable to your goals.

    Male Breasts (aka Man Boobs)

The development of man boobs can disrupt the confidence of many men. As this is often genetically predetermined, exercise will do little to address male breasts. To create a more athletic, masculine chest, Vaser liposuction works to remove both fat and glands from this area.

    Face & Cheeks

Many people, especially those of Asian descent, are genetically predisposed to facial fat. To combat what is often referred to as a “chipmunk” appearance, Vaser liposuction can sculpt the face and create a more youthful, toned look.

    Jaw & Neck Line

With age, fat deposits in the jawline, jowls and neck area often begin to develop, sometimes leading to a “wattle neck”. Vaser liposuction is a highly effective method of removing such fat deposits, giving patients a more youthful appearance.

What should I do to prepare for surgery?

During your consultation at Cosmos Clinic Gold Coast, your liposuction doctor will give you specific pre-operative instructions. If you smoke, you must stop at least two weeks before surgery, as smoking may increase surgical complications and slow down healing. Additionally, you may be asked to avoid certain medications and supplements that can cause excessive bleeding and bruising during and after surgery. We also highly suggest taking steps before surgery to prepare for recovery, including purchasing some comfortable clothing, filling any needed prescriptions, preparing some healthy meals and arranging for someone to pick you up from the hospital and stay with you for the first few days at home.

Am I a candidate for liposuction?

You may be a suitable candidate for our liposuction or liposculpture procedures if you fit the following criteria:

    • You are in good physical and mental health
    • You have realistic expectations regarding what can be achieved through liposuction surgery
    • You are dissatisfied by the appearance of unwanted pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise efforts
    • You have good skin elasticity
    • You are at a healthy, stable weight and are prepared to follow healthy habits after surgery to maintain results
    • You do not smoke or are prepared to quit before and after surgery

The best way to determine whether you are a candidate, of course, is to meet with our Gold Coast liposuction doctors at Cosmos Clinic.

How long does the procedure last?

How long your procedure will take will depend on the area treated and the amount of fat removed. Typically, liposuction can take anywhere from one to four hours to complete.

Can I treat multiple areas of concern at the same time?

Yes. In fact, many patients choose to treat multiple areas in one liposuction procedure. Often these are areas close together, such as the abdomen and flanks or abdomen and thighs, although this doesn’t have to be the case. While there is no limit to how many areas we can treat in one procedure, we usually suggest a maximum of three or four. Remember that combining areas will increase your surgery time, recovery time and costs.

    How painful is the procedure?

You will be under local anaesthesia and sedation during your liposuction procedure, meaning that you will feel very little pain during the procedure. Any pain or discomfort experienced during recovery can be relieved with medications prescribed by your doctor.

How much fat can the procedure remove?

At Cosmos Clinic Gold Coast, we will remove anywhere between three and five litres of fat during a single liposuction procedure, depending on your aesthetic goals and overall body weight.

For patient safety and comfort, the maximum amount of fat we can remove via liposuction is five litres. This limit is universal, regardless of a patient’s weight, percentage of body fat and desired results. In fact, one study found that complication rates increased by 3.7 percent when removing more than five litres. If you wish to remove more fat than this, you will need to undergo multiple liposuction sessions.

How many liposuction procedures will I need?

Our Gold Coast liposuction doctors always strive to achieve the best fat reduction results during your initial liposuction procedure. However, depending on your desired outcomes and how much fat needs to be removed to accomplish that, you may need additional liposuction sessions.

When will I see my liposuction results?

Although you will likely see some subtle improvements immediately after your liposuction procedure, it will take some time for your final results to appear. Before your full results appear, you will need to wait for post-operative swelling to subside and give the skin time to retract and tighten. While some liposuction patients notice their final results within three to six months, others find that their results continue to improve for up to a year. To speed your recovery and notice results sooner, ensure that you follow all of your doctor’s post-operative instructions.

Can liposuction help if I am obese?

Liposuction is not a weight loss solution and is not designed to treat obesity. Despite that, our Mega Liposuction procedures can help overweight patients lose considerable amounts of fat. Organise a consultation with our Gold Coast liposuction doctors to see if this option is right for you.

    Are results permanent?

Liposuction results can be permanent in the sense that the removed fat cells will never return. However, the fat cells that remain can still grow in size, meaning that you can still gain weight again in the future, although possibly in different areas of the body. Other external factors, such as ageing, gravity and inflammation, can also impact the way your results look over time.

Will I have scars after the procedure?

Although scarring is an inevitable part of any surgical procedure, significant scarring following liposuction is rare. The incisions required to insert the cannulas are only small, and our liposuction doctors at Cosmos Clinic always endeavour to make small incisions in easily hidden places. Regardless, any noticeable scarring will fade in time, particularly if you follow the scar management instructions given by your doctor.

Will I have loose skin after the procedure?

After your liposuction procedure, your skin will naturally contract to some degree due to the skin’s natural healing process. However, the success of this can vary from person to person. For example, patients with good skin elasticity usually find themselves with firm, smooth skin after surgery, while patients with poor skin elasticity may experience looseness or wrinkling of the skin. Regardless, at Cosmos Clinic Gold Coast, we offer various non-surgical skin tightening treatments to help with loose skin after liposuction.

Are there any alternatives to invasive surgery?

If you are looking to reduce stubborn fat without committing to invasive surgery, there are a rising number of non-surgical fat removal treatments on the market. At Cosmos Clinic Gold Coast, we offer CoolSculpting treatments that use cryolipolysis to freeze and destroy fat cells.

Are there any risks or side effects of having liposuction?

Although Vaser liposuction is considered a lower risk than traditional liposuction, every invasive procedure comes with risks. Despite that, complications are extremely unlikely, and we’ve performed thousands of liposuction procedures on the Gold Coast without incident. Some of the side effects you may experience after liposuction include:

    • Bruising and bleeding
    • Pain and aching
    • Loose skin that doesn’t adjust to your new body contour
    • Persistent swelling
    • Poor scarring
    • Fluid accumulation under the skin
    • Asymmetry or skin irregularities
    • Infections
    • Blood clots
    • Skin burns
    • Numbness

How much does liposuction cost in the Gold Coast?

While we know that cost often plays a huge factor in your decision to undergo cosmetic surgery, liposuction does not fit into a one price fits all strategy. Rather, the cost of liposuction varies from patient to patient, depending on several factors, such as:

    • The method of liposuction used
    • The areas of the body treated
    • The type of anaesthetic used
    • The patient’s body type
    • The amount of time spent in surgery

At Cosmos Clinic Gold Coast, our Vaser liposuction procedures start at $4,400 for one area. If you wish to address multiple areas of concern in one procedure, you can expect faster recovery times AND reduced overall costs. Each additional area treated will cost approximately $1,750 on top of the base price. If you are looking to receive the most accurate price, please organise a consultation with one of our liposuction doctors.
