The process involves removing fat from designated areas of the body, such as the abdomen, hips, or lower back, using Vaser Liposuction. This fat is then processed and injected into the buttocks to change their size and shape. The procedure exclusively uses the patient’s own fat for the transfer process.

How is a Brazilian Butt Lift Performed?

At Cosmos Clinic, all liposuction and fat transfer procedures are performed using Vaser Liposuction technology.

Fat Removal: Fat is removed from specific areas of the body using Vaser Liposuction. This method employs ultrasound technology to break down fat cells before they are extracted through small incisions. Common donor sites include the abdomen, hips, lower back, and sacral region.
Fat Transfer: After extraction, the fat is processed to prepare it for reintroduction into the buttocks. The fat is then injected to change the shape and size of the buttocks.

The procedure is performed under a combination of local anaesthetic and IV sedation or general anaesthesia, tailored to the patient’s needs and medical history as determined during pre-surgery consultations.

How Long Does a Brazilian Butt Lift Procedure Take?

Is There Downtime After Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery?

Recovery from a BBL surgery usually requires about 14 days off from work, although this can vary based on the nature of your job and the extent of the procedure.

To reduce swelling and support proper healing, patients must wear compression garments for at least six weeks post-surgery. While some swelling may subside earlier, it can take up to six months or longer to see the final results as the transferred fat settles and the body heals.

What Can I Expect After Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery?

Immediately after the procedure, your buttocks may appear larger than anticipated due to swelling and the slight overfilling of fat to account for natural fat cell absorption. Over time, swelling will diminish, and the final results will become apparent.

Not all fat cells survive the transfer process. On average, about 80% or more of the injected fat cells will remain. To maximise fat survival, patients should wear compression garments, avoid direct pressure on the buttocks, and maintain a stable weight during recovery.

Is a Brazilian Butt Lift the Same as Buttock Implants?

A Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) uses the patient’s own fat cells, harvested through Vaser Liposuction, to alter the size and shape of the buttocks. In contrast, buttock implants involve surgically inserting silicone implants to achieve similar results.

For individuals without sufficient fat reserves for a BBL, alternatives such as buttock implants or non-surgical procedures may be explored. It’s essential to consult with a qualified surgeon to compare the recovery, downtime, and specific risks of each option before deciding.

Can I get a BBL if I don’t have enough fat?

A minimum amount of fat is needed for buttock augmentation surgery. Patients without enough fat can potentially gain and maintain a higher weight if it’s healthy and feasible for them to do so. If gaining weight isn’t a viable option, other cosmetic procedures such as buttock implants or a Non-Surgical Butt Lift could be considered.

Can I use another person’s fat instead of my own for the fat injections?

It’s essential to understand that you can’t transfer fat from another person. Your body will know the injected fat cells are not your own, resulting in immediate rejection and tissue death. Injecting someone else’s fat can compromise your safety and can result in significant health issues.
