    BRAZILIAN BUTT LIFT SURGERY

    Eligibility & Costs

Who is a Suitable Candidate for a BBL?

A Brazilian Butt Lift at Cosmos Clinic is a surgical option for individuals seeking to change the shape and size of the buttocks without the use of implants. Determining suitability for the procedure involves consultations with medical practitioners, who will assess factors such as:

    • Physical and mental health.
    • Stable weight and a commitment to maintaining it.
    • Realistic expectations of what liposuction and fat transfer can achieve, acknowledging that results vary between individuals.
    • Sufficient fat reserves for transfer, typically from areas like the abdomen, hips, or thighs.
    • Good skin quality without excessive laxity in the areas being treated.
    • An understanding of the inherent risks and side effects associated with Vaser Liposuction and fat transfer procedures.

Requirements for a Brazilian Butt Lift

Before undergoing a BBL or any cosmetic surgery in Australia, patients must meet the following requirements:

    • Obtain a referral from a General Practitioner (GP).
    • Attend two consultations, one with the doctor performing the procedure.
    • Observe a mandatory seven-day cooling-off period after the second consultation.

How Much Does a Brazilian Butt Lift Cost?

The starting cost for a BBL procedure at Cosmos Clinic is $7,700. However, the total cost varies based on individual needs and circumstances. Factors influencing the price include:

    • Doctor Fees: Determined by the clinic location and complexity of the procedure.
    • Hospital Fees: If required, calculated based on theatre and recovery time.
    • Anaesthetic Fees: Covering the cost of sedation and anaesthetic medications.
    • Compression Garments: Worn during recovery and provided by Cosmos Clinic.

Prices are general estimates and not fixed. For a personalised quote tailored to your specific requirements, contact our team to begin the consultation process.

    What to Expect

    Understanding the procedure

How Long Does a Brazilian Butt Lift Procedure Take?

The duration of a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedure, including Vaser Liposuction and fat grafting, typically ranges from 2 to 4 hours. The specific time depends on factors such as the number of areas treated with liposuction, the complexity of the procedure, and the amount of fat transferred.

Is There Downtime After Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery?

Recovery from a BBL surgery usually requires about 14 days off from work, although this can vary based on the nature of your job and the extent of the procedure.

To reduce swelling and support proper healing, patients must wear compression garments for at least six weeks post-surgery. While some swelling may subside earlier, it can take up to six months or longer to see the final results as the transferred fat settles and the body heals.

What Can I Expect After Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery?

Immediately after the procedure, your buttocks may appear larger than anticipated due to swelling and the slight overfilling of fat to account for natural fat cell absorption. Over time, swelling will diminish, and the final results will become apparent.

Patients can expect some bruising, swelling, and discomfort, which can be managed with prescribed pain relief. Following aftercare instructions, including daily lymphatic massages and attending all follow-up appointments, is critical for optimal recovery.

Can I Sit Down After a Buttock Lift with Fat Transfer?

During recovery, it is advised to avoid direct pressure on the buttock area to preserve blood flow to the newly transferred fat cells. If sitting is necessary, using a specialised BBL pillow and leaning forward on your thighs can help minimise pressure on the buttocks. Sleeping on your stomach or side is also recommended during the initial recovery phase.

How Much of the Transferred Fat Will Survive?

Not all fat cells survive the transfer process. On average, about 80% or more of the injected fat cells will remain. To maximise fat survival, patients should wear compression garments, avoid direct pressure on the buttocks, and maintain a stable weight during recovery.

Does a Brazilian Butt Lift Procedure Leave Scars?

The procedure involves small incisions for liposuction and fat injection. The visibility of scars depends on individual factors like skin type, genetics, and healing tendencies. With proper care, these scars often fade and become less noticeable over time.

    BBL Risks & Considerations

    Some potential BBL Risks

A fat transfer to the buttocks using Vaser Liposuction is a surgical procedure, and like all surgeries, it carries inherent risks and potential side effects. These may include:

    • Pain and Discomfort: Mild to severe aching in the treated areas.
    • Bruising and Bleeding: Common after surgery and usually temporary.
    • Swelling: Persistent swelling that can take weeks to months to subside.
    • Infection: A risk with any surgical procedure, which can be minimised with proper aftercare.
    • Asymmetry: Uneven fat distribution or absorption may lead to asymmetrical results.
    • Scarring: Small scars at incision sites, which vary depending on individual healing.
    • Skin Discolouration or Sensation Changes: Temporary or permanent changes in skin colour or sensitivity.
    • Unsatisfactory Results: Outcomes may not meet expectations, requiring revision surgery.
    • Fat Necrosis: Death of some transferred fat cells, potentially necessitating further treatment.
    • Fat Embolism or Pulmonary Embolism: Rare but serious complications where fat enters the bloodstream and blocks vessels.

    Patient Safety in BBL Surgery

The safety of Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) surgery has improved significantly in recent years:

    • Studies show that BBL procedures now have a lower mortality rate than tummy tucks (abdominoplasty), which have a death rate of 1 in 13,000 (Del Vecchio et al., 2021).
    • As of 2019, the mortality rate for BBLs was 1 in 14,952 (Rios & Gupta, 2020), with continued improvements expected.
    • By 2025, the mortality rate is projected to decrease further, to between 1 in 25,000 and 1 in 35,000 (Del Vecchio et al., 2021).

Is a Brazilian Butt Lift the Same as Buttock Implants?

A Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) uses the patient’s own fat cells, harvested through Vaser Liposuction, to alter the size and shape of the buttocks. In contrast, buttock implants involve surgically inserting silicone implants to achieve similar results.

For individuals without sufficient fat reserves for a BBL, alternatives such as buttock implants or non-surgical procedures may be explored. It’s essential to consult with a qualified surgeon to compare the recovery, downtime, and specific risks of each option before deciding.

Can I get a BBL if I don’t have enough fat?

A minimum amount of fat is needed for buttock augmentation surgery. Patients without enough fat can potentially gain and maintain a higher weight if it’s healthy and feasible for them to do so. If gaining weight isn’t a viable option, other cosmetic procedures such as buttock implants or a Non-Surgical Butt Lift could be considered.

Can I use another person’s fat instead of my own for the fat injections?

It’s essential to understand that you can’t transfer fat from another person. Your body will know the injected fat cells are not your own, resulting in immediate rejection and tissue death. Injecting someone else’s fat can compromise your safety and can result in significant health issues.
