A fat transfer to the buttocks involves harvesting fat from another part of the body and reinjecting it into the buttocks. The fat cells can be taken from any of the following areas: abdomen, hips, thighs, back and even knees.
There are many reasons a person may choose to get a fat transfer to the buttocks:
Patients should always consider the risks before pursuing this surgical procedure.
The procedure may suit someone who desires more volume without implants or invasive surgery. A good candidate is someone in good health, with realistic expectations, and good skin tone around the buttocks and hips. It’s also important to have enough fat stores in other areas to harvest for the fat transfer injections.
There are four steps involved in fat transfer to the buttocks surgery at Cosmos, Adelaide:
Following your Fat Transfer Buttock Augmentation surgery, you will need to take approximately 10-14 days off from work. You’ll be able to your regular activities 2-3 weeks after surgery. You will need to avoid sitting on your butt for two weeks. You should avoid strenuous exercise and wear a compression garment during this initial recovery time.
It’s important to attend regularly scheduled follow-up sessions with your doctor. You will experience some swelling after surgery. This is normal and due partly to inflammation and having the area overfilled (as only about 80% of the fat cells survive).
Buttock fat transfer surgery costs will be determined by your individual goals and other factors.
The initial consultation is designed to determine your aesthetics objectives and discuss the treatment plan. At this time your liposuction practitioner may examine your buttocks, abdomen, and other areas to determine if you’re a good candidate and how to help you achieve your desired outcomes. You will be given the opportunity to ask questions and discuss your concerns and expectations about the procedure. Your doctor may show you before/after photos about the kinds of results you can expect.
Significant weight fluctuations can affect the grafts and compromise your results. Keep in mind that fat cells that have been removed with liposuction will not return to the area, and fat cells that survive transfer to the buttocks should remain permanently.
A fat transfer to the buttocks involves using your own fat to achieve augmentation. Buttock implants, on the other hand, rely on materials such as silicone to be implanted into the buttock area to alter size and shape.
Buttock implants do have a place in aesthetic medicine, particularly if you don’t have enough autologous fat. If you are considering buttock implants, however, some of the risks to consider include capsular contracture, implants moving and a higher risk for infection.
Our experienced team of medical practitioners, doctors and registered nurses are committed to the delivery of personalised patient care.
