If you are concerned by excess deposits of stubborn fat, liposuction can sculpt the body for a slimmer, more contoured appearance. Liposuction is the core of what we do at Cosmos Clinic, and we offer this body contouring procedure at our five clinics in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Gold Coast and Canberra. Check out our before and after gallery of photos to see whether our doctor’s work appeals to your cosmetic goals.
What is Vaser Liposuction?
At Cosmos Clinic, we use Vaser technology for all of our liposuction procedures. Vaser (“Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance”) is the latest advancement in surgical liposuction. It uses ultrasound energy to break apart fat cells before they are removed from the body. This is considered a much gentler approach to liposuction, with fewer risks and quicker recovery times.
Your Vaser liposuction procedure will be performed under local anaesthesia and twilight sedation, although a general anaesthetic is available on request. Once you are numb, your doctor will make a small incision in the treated area, through which the Vaser ultrasound probe is inserted. Your doctor will do their best to make your incisions as inconspicuous as possible. The Vaser probe is then moved back and forth to heat and liquefy your unwanted fat cells. As the fatty tissue is broken apart, your doctor will use a cannula to vacuum it out of the body.
Benefits of Vaser Liposuction
Wondering why you should choose Vaser over a traditional liposuction procedure? Vaser liposuction offers patients several benefits, including:
A gentler approach to liposuction: As the fat is melted and liquefied during the procedure, it is much easier to remove from the body. As such, the treated areas experience less trauma, which results in reduced pain, less bruising and faster recovery times.
Skin retraction: In addition to melting excess fat, the Vaser probe also contracts collagen fibres to promote skin tightening. Following Vaser liposuction, patients can expect less skin laxity than they would with a traditional liposuction procedure.
Surgical precision: With Vaser, doctors can remove both small and large volumes of fat from various areas of the body. This allows your doctor to be more precise when sculpting the body and thus offers enhanced results.
Treat various body areas: With Vaser, you can address stubborn pockets of fat in various body areas, including the abdomen, thighs, love handles, chest, back, arms, neck and more.
Recovering from Vaser Liposuction
As a minimally invasive procedure, patients usually return home on the same day as their liposuction surgery. While some mild pain and discomfort are only to be expected, your doctor will prescribe medications to relieve this. You will need to wear a compression garment for five to six weeks after surgery to reduce swelling and help the skin retract. Despite this, most liposuction patients describe the recovery process as relatively easy, and most patients can resume all regular activities within a week.
Your Vaser Liposuction Results
Within six weeks, you will begin to see the results of your Vaser liposuction procedure, although it may take up to six months for the skin to retract and swelling to subside fully. Once your results are finalised, you can expect a firmer body contour and a more even distribution of fat across your body. Even better, your results are permanent: once the fat cells have been removed, they will never return to that area of the body.
However, the remaining fat cells can still increase in size, so it is still possible to gain weight if you aren’t careful. That’s why we suggest waiting until you are close to your goal weight before opting for surgery and making healthy lifestyle changes to ensure that you can enjoy your results for years to come.
