THE RESULTS
Prices for gynaecomastia surgery vary and it’s important to note that cosmetic surgery in Australia is not covered by Medicare or private health insurance. The total cost of our male breast reductions with liposuction starts from a minimum $5,500 as the base price, with any additional areas of liposuction charged at a reduced rate starting from $2,000. An exact quote for your individual circumstances will be provided to you during the initial consultations. Total costs can also include the following:
Doctor fee: This cost is usually calculated by how many areas you are treating and the complexity of your individual surgical procedure.
Anaesthetist fee: The price for your sedation is calculated by the type of anaesthesia you receive for your gynaecomastia surgery and your individual needs.
Hospital fees: If applicable, a hospital fee is calculated by the time needed in the operating theatre and the time spent recovering from anaesthesia. During your initial consultations it will be discussed if a hospital fee is relevant to you.
Men and women both have both fatty tissue and breast tissue in the chest, which can swell and become breasts. Men can develop breast enlargement for many reasons, including:
Although men can develop gynaecomastia at any stage of life, it is most common during adolescence and middle age. Speak to our doctors to find out more about how gynaecomastia may be an option to treat men who are unsatisfied with thier breast area.
VASER is a liposuction procedure that utilizes sound wave energy with the aim to dissolve and liquefy fat cells. At Cosmos Aesthetics Adelaide, we use Vaser for all of our liposuction surgical treatments.
Typically performed as day surgery, this procedure involves breaking up fat deposits and suctioning them out through a cannula. IV anaesthesia and a tumescent solution containing local anaesthesia are used. General anaesthesia is also available for patients requiring deeper levels of sedation.
Gynaecomastia liposuction is not right for everyone. The below list may make you a suitable candidate for male breast reduction but a consultation will be essential:
To determine if a liposuction surgical procedure is right for you, please contact us to organise your initial consultations with our doctors at Cosmos Aesthetics Adelaide.
Your male breast reduction will be performed under IV sedation and local anaesthesia with a numbing tumescent solution. You can expect mild discomfort and bruising in the days or weeks that follow, which can be managed with the pain relief prescribed by your Cosmos Aesthetics doctor. A compression garment will be fitted to the chest immediately following surgery to assist with swelling, pain and reconstruction of the chest into the ideal shape.
The length of time for a surgical procedure varies depending on a number of factors, including the amount of fatty tissue in the chest, if glandular tissue needs to be removed by your doctor and whether you are having any other liposuction procedures being done at the same time. If you are having multiple body areas treated with liposuction on the same surgery day, you can expect your theatre time to increase, as well as the overall cost.
Vaser Liposuction is a surgical procedure and all surgery has risks. Your doctor will discuss in detail the risks, complications, side effects, and alternative treatment options including not having surgery at all during your initial consultations. Some potential side effects can include but are not limited to:
Some improvement is usually noticed at the completion of your surgical treatment. The post-operative swelling fluctuates during recovery, and as it subsides, the final results become visible. The results from having cosmetic surgery gradually improve over the three to six months, following male breast reduction surgery. You will attend regular follow up appointments to support you during recovery. Wearing your compression garments for six weeks after having breast reduction surgery, as directed by your doctor, will assist your body in healing and reduce excess swelling.
While significant scarring is not common after male breast reduction, it’s important to discuss the potential for scarring with a healthcare professional. During the procedure, your doctor will make a small incision in the natural structures of the chest and areolas. The small incisions are used to allow the ultrasound probe and cannula to liquefy and remove excess fat deposits. Scarring fades over time, but you can use silicone gels and creams to help fade them sooner.
The results for male breast reduction can be long-lasting, as removed fat cells typically do not regrow. However, it’s important to maintain a healthy lifestyle as remaining cells can expand. However, remaining cells can expand in size, caused by future weight gain, hormonal imbalances and the use of recreational drugs. With this in mind, you should always aim to treat any underlying conditions that may be causing your gynaecomastia.
We typically recommend that patients wait until turning 18 before considering surgery. Enlarged male breast tissue usually resolves after the puberty phase without reduction surgery.
After weightloss some men may find they are left with excess fat deposits that remain despite regular diet and exercise. If this is a concern to you, sometimes a surgical treatment can remove the final unwanted fatty tissue.
Typically, breast tissue has a firmer and denser feel than fat. It is possible that you may have both breast and fat tissue contributing to your enlarged chest area. Vaser Liposuction is a day surgery procedure, that can remove both excess fat and glandular tissue for a more well-defined, flatter and athletic-looking chest.
Liposuction is best suited to patients whose enlarged breasts are predominantly caused by excess fatty tissue. Using Vaser Liposuction, the doctor will make a small incision to insert an ultrasound probe that will liquify the excess male breast tissue. A cannula will then be used to suction it out of the body.
Surgical excision is preferred when the areola and nipple need to be repositioned, or when excess skin needs to be removed. While most men are suitable for liposuction, your doctor will discuss which treatment option is best for you, and refer you to a plastic surgeon for assessment if an excision via plastic surgery is needed.
