Have you got unwanted belly fat that’s not shifting? Do you diet and exercise but struggle to get the abdominals you desire? Abdominal etching may be the solution you’ve been looking for.
As a type of liposuction procedure, abdominal etching (abdominal definition surgery) uses similar techniques to traditional liposuction where unwanted body fat is removed from your abdominal area using a suction technique. An important difference between ab etching and traditional liposuction is that excess fat deposits are removed using small incisions around your belly button. Abdominal etching performed by a skilled practitioner aims to shape and define the abdominal area, which may enhance the appearance of abdominal muscles. This liposuction technique takes excess fat from your oblique abdominal muscles to create a washboard and six-pack abs
Why We Use Vaser High Definition Liposuction
Vaser High Definition liposuction is a more advanced technique for contouring abdominals and body sculpting than Vaser Liposuction. This cosmetic surgery was specifically developed for men and women people who want more muscle definition and a more athletic appearance.

Using a cannula and small incisions, Vaser High Definition is a precise way to achieve muscle definition. This high definition liposculpture transforms your excess fat into a ‘butter’ like consistency, which makes it easier to remove using suction. Removing fat cells like this results in your abdominal skin tightening to create natural and smooth results.
Candidates considered suitable for abdominal etching surgery typically have palpable abdominal muscles and good skin tone, though individual suitability varies. Cosmos Aesthetics Doctors have been trained by renowned liposuction doctors around the world including the inventor of Vaser High Definition Liposuction, Dr Alfredo Hoyos.
What happens during the abdominal etching procedure?
The first stage of ab etching at Cosmos Aesthetics is where you’re given medication to help you relax and feel more comfortable. Most abdominal etching procedures take about an hour. While some patients choose to have twilight sedation, general anaesthesia is also a popular option. Small incisions are then made so the cannula can be introduced to your abdominal area.
The second stage of the abdominal etching procedure is to infiltrate the treatment area with tumescent saline solution. This process helps to numb the treatment site while shrinking blood vessels. This process helps to minimise blood loss and reduce bruising.
During the third stage, the Vaser High Definition probe is inserted into the treatment area where sound energy is transmitted to melt away your excess fat tissue. This precise process ensures other important tissues are preserved.
The fourth stage of your abdominal etching procedure allows the Doctor to remove the fat below your skin using a cannula. This process creates a washboard and abdominal six-pack appearance. Cosmos Aesthetics Doctors take the time during this cosmetic surgery to enhance specific muscles of your torso including your six-pack, obliques, pectorals, latissimus dorsi and serratus anterior.
The heat from the Vaser High Definition lipo ensures the skin of your abdominal area will retract. This creates a smooth and natural looking result.
After your cosmetic surgery, the incisions will be closed and dressed. You’ll wake up with a
compression garment around your midsection. This encourages your abdominal musculature to heal. To reduce swelling and bruising and to improve skin retraction, you’ll need to wear this for 3-6 weeks.
Abdominal etching is a day outpatient procedure, where you can return home on the same day. While movement is encouraged, it’s important not to participate in vigorous sport or exercise for 4-6 weeks. As a Cosmos Aesthetics patient, you’ll receive regular lymphatic massages with our nurse and onsite physiotherapist. These massages help speed up your recovery.
After your ab etching, we strongly suggest you:
- Wear your liposuction compression garments
- Maintain a healthy diet and avoid drinking too much alcohol
- Listen to your body and don’t push it.
- Take good care of the surgical sites
- Attend all post cosmetic surgery follow up appointments.
Will the results of Vaser High Definition Liposuction be permanent?
After adolescence, the actual number of fat cells in your body remains stable. Unless you become very obese, you won’t grow more fat cells after adolescence. When you put weight on, the fat cells will grow bigger. When you lose weight, they’ll become smaller. Vaser High Definition Liposuction aims to remove fat cells, which may impact fat accumulation in treated areas. However, the long-term effects on body shape can vary between individuals. Should you put on weight, there will be a more even distribution.
