What is Broad Band Light (BBL)?
At Cosmos Clinic we use Sciton’s Broad Band Light (BBL) to deliver signifcant improvements to the appearance of pigmentation on the skin. The BBL laser technology utilizes the power of pulsed light to treat sun and age spots, and other pigmented skin blemishes to improve the skin’s youthful appearance.
What does a laser treatment using BBL do?
The laser light energy delivered by Sciton’s Broad Band Light (BBL) gently heats up the upper layers of your skin. The heat absorbed by the targeted areas will stimulate the skin cells. This will restore your skin to its natural beauty, making it smoother and more vibrant. For a visual presentation on how the procedure works, watch the video link below:
What areas can be treated?
Any area of your body can be treated. The most common areas include the face, neck, chest, hands, shoulders and backs; these areas are typically the most exposed to the damaging effects of the sun.
How many BBL treatments will I need?
Three treatments are usually advised roughly a month apart for best results, with yearly “maintenance” treatments. There is no visible wound and the treatments are painless, with only a slight warming sensation. Treatments take 30 minutes or less to perform and can be easily performed in your lunch break. This relatively painless treatment may result in some redness post-procedure lasting 6-24 hours. The light energy from the Sciton BBL directly heats the “broken capillary” and superficial “brown spots” resulting in a marked improvement in the skin complexion and colouring.
What should I expect after the BBL laser treatment?
Typically you may experience some redness that will resolve within a few hours. For some pigmented lesions, you will see a darkening of the treated areas followed by fading and flaking off at a later stage. Since results vary depending on patient conditions, number of treatments and areas treated; your physician will provide you with complete information about the post treatment effects and results.
Will the BBL laser treatment be uncomfortable?
There should be minimal or no discomfort. You may feel a warming of the skin, or a rubber band snap like sensation, as the procedure is performed. This varies from patient to patient and depends on the depth of the treatment. There is no need for any topical anesthesia, however, patients may choose to use it on more sensitive areas. Your physician will recommend the best options during the consultation.
What will happen during the BBL laser treatment?
Your eyes will be protected with safety shields or glasses. You may briefly feel a warming of the skin, or a rubber band snap like sensation, as the light is absorbed by the targeted areas. Your procedure may take a few minutes to half an hour depending on the size of the area to be treated and the type and depth of the procedure performed. Your physician will discuss all the options with you.
How long will it take to recover?
This minimally invasive and gentle procedure can be performed during lunchtime with virtually no down-time.
What aftercare do I need?
It is important to follow your physician’s instructions. You may be given some skin care products and instructions on how to use them. This will minimize your risk of inflammation or redness and ensure the shortest healing time. You will be sensitive to ultra-violet light and you must avoid direct sun exposure until fully healed. Fully cover your skin or use a good sunscreen whenever you go outdoors.
What are the costs of the BBL laser treatment?
As a general guide, the cost to treat the cheeks and nose is $300, the cost for the full face is $500. You generally will need 3 treatments spaced a month apart. You can purchase a package of 3 full face treatments for $1000.
