PRP for Male Hair Loss

This treatment is used in people wanting a noticeable improvement and who do not want a hair transplant. Male hair loss (or male pattern baldness) is a condition that can be treated using Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP). PRP is a hair loss treatment that uses your own blood to stimulate hair follicles and encourage new hair growth. It is a hair restoration technique that is effective in treating bald spots and hair thinning.

The Basics

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is obtained from your own blood. Performed using a topical anaesthetic to minimise discomfort. PRP is injected into the skin which promotes growth or new, thicker hair.

Minor swelling and redness post treatment, which usually subsides within 24 hours. Optimal results achieved with 3-5 applications. Review of progress at 6 months.

What is PRP for Hair Loss?

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) combined with Medical Skin Needling is a great natural procedure that uses your body’s own plasma to stimulate the hair follicles encouraging new hair growth and hair regrowth.  This procedure is effective in the treatment of Androgenic Alopecia (hair loss) as well as those with a receding hairline.

Will I experience any pain?

A topical anaesthetic is applied which minimises any discomfort during this hair regrowth treatment.

What can I expect after the procedure?

There is minimal discomfort associated with this procedure and almost no downtime.

Skin will appear flushed and red immediately after treatment. You may also experience a ‘sunburn’ like sensation. This normally subsides within 24 hours.

You may also experience some minor swelling, inflammation or bruising at the injection sites – although this can vary from patient to patient.

Results. What and when can I expect them?

Results are not immediate. Hair growth will start to become visible about 3-4 months after your initial treatment as the platelets stimulate the growth factors which assist in more hair growth. This will gradually improve over the ensuing months (* Results may vary from patient to patient).

For optimal results, we recommend you have a treatment every 2 – 4 weeks, 3 to 5 times. We then review the progress of the hair growth at 6 months and one top up treatment can be done if necessary at 8 – 9 months (* Results may vary from patient to patient).

Are there any risks of complications?

The area treated is usually swollen for a few hours to two days and there may be some bruising.

Your own blood is used so allergies or reactions are not a concern with PRP and there is no risk of scarring or changes in pigmentation.

At which clinic can I undertake the procedure?

Your initial PRP for Hair Loss consultation and subsequent procedure can be undertaken at one of our cosmetic clinics in Australia. This treatment is available in Sydney, Adelaide and the Gold Coast.
