THE RESULTS
What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers have become extremely popular in recent years because they produce noticeable aesthetic improvements that previously could only be accomplished with surgery. This cosmetic injectable treatment works by imitating a naturally occurring sugar molecule designed to bind water, transport nutrients, and regulate the skin’s water balance. When injected under the skin, this gel-like substance instantly restores facial volume, softens wrinkles, and enhances facial contours.
Below are some of the ways fillers are used to enhance your appearance:
Why choose Cosmos Aesthetics for dermal fillers
Dermal fillers are a popular treatment for many reasons. For one, treatments can be performed in as little as 15 to 30 minutes and can even be performed during your lunch break. Cosmetic injectables are ideal for busy individuals or those who are not interested in surgery. In just one quick visit, you can achieve profound facial lifting and contouring, reverse the signs of ageing, and gain back your confidence.
However, with so many cosmetic clinics offering dermal filler treatments, it can be hard to determine who to go to. At Cosmos Aesthetics Sydney, all of our cosmetic injectors are experienced medical professionals specially trained in performing dermal filler treatments. When searching for a cosmetic injector, be sure to look out for:

Dermal filler treatment areas
Here at Cosmos Aesthetics Sydney, we use dermal fillers to plump and soften various areas of the face.
What happens during a dermal filler treatment
Please note that dermal filler is a prescribed medication, meaning that it can only be administered by a qualified medical practitioner. Given this, all patients must visit us for a consultation at Cosmos Aesthetics Sydney before any cosmetic injectable treatment to ensure that you are a suitable candidate.
Before your dermal filler treatment, our medical professional injectors will thoroughly cleanse your face before applying ice to numb the treatment area. Dermal fillers can be injected with either a needle or cannula, depending on the treatment area. The fillers used at Cosmos Clinic contain a local anaesthetic that minimises discomfort during the procedure. While you may feel a slight pinch as the product is injected, the procedure is relatively pain-free. Immediately after your dermal filler treatment, your injector will apply pressure to the treatment area with gauze.
What to expect after a dermal filler treatment
One of the great things about dermal filler is that it is a straightforward treatment that can be performed during your lunch break, after work or at the start of your weekend. As a walk-in, walk-out procedure, you are free to return to your daily routine immediately after treatment. While you may experience some slight bruising, swelling and tenderness in the treatment areas, these side effects are typically mild and should go away within a few days.
If you experience any uncomfortable swelling or tenderness, we recommend applying a cool compress for ten minutes every hour. Be sure not to apply the ice or cool compress directly on the skin; wrap it in a small towel instead. Avoiding any strenuous exercise or excessive heat for at least 24 hours can also help keep swelling and tenderness under control.
You should also be sure to keep hydrated following a dermal filler treatment and avoid alcohol or smoking for a minimum of 24 hours. If you require pain relief for whatever reason following your dermal filler treatment, we advise that you use paracetamol instead of aspirin or ibuprofen. Your cosmetic injector will give you more thorough aftercare instructions during your treatment.
How much do dermal fillers cost in Sydney
The cost of your dermal filler treatment will depend on a number of factors, such as the specific treatment area, the amount of filler required, and the type of filler used. At Cosmos Aesthetics, we acknowledge that every patient is different and requires a customised treatment plan to address their aesthetic concerns and goals. The best way to determine how much your dermal filler treatment will cost is to book a consultation with one of our experienced cosmetic injectors. Am I a candidate for dermal fillers?
If you’re concerned with sagging skin, drooping facial contours, wrinkles, creases, and you’d like to achieve firmer, younger skin, then you’re a good candidate for injectable dermal filler. Both women and men of all ages can benefit from filler because it’s not just used for anti-aging but also to enhance facial symmetry and features.
Can dermal fillers replace surgical procedures?
Dermal fillers are becoming increasingly sophisticated and specialised, offering patients highly effective non-surgical options for facial rejuvenation. There are some limitations, however. Those who have excess skin or considerable sun damage may require surgery or laser resurfacing to achieve satisfactory results.
What brands of dermal filler do you use?
In Australia, advertising guidelines prohibit us from stating which dermal filler brands we use. Classified as prescription medicine, only doctors can prescribe dermal fillers. As such, you must have a consultation with us to ensure that dermal fillers are appropriate for your face. At Cosmos Aesthetics, we use high-quality dermal fillers from a range of well-trusted brands. If you’d like to learn more, we can talk freely about your options during your consultation.
Can dermal fillers slow down the ageing process?
While dermal fillers may not prevent the skin from ageing entirely, they can prevent lines and volume loss from getting worse. Dermal fillers can actually stimulate the production of collagen, which keeps our skin looking plump, fresh, and youthful.
At Cosmos Aesthetics, we are seeing more and more patients opting for dermal fillers as a preventative anti-ageing treatment. While anyone over the age of 18 can have dermal fillers, the best time to begin treatment is different for everyone. Ultimately, dermal fillers are an effective way to reduce the visible signs of ageing without resorting to surgery.
Can I have other treatments with dermal fillers?
Yes, many patients choose to combine their dermal fillers with other non-surgical facial treatments, especially anti-wrinkle injections. As an anti-ageing strategy, dermal fillers provide volume and shape to your face, while anti-wrinkle injections reduce fine lines and deep wrinkles. You can learn more about whether this option is suitable for you during your consultation.
Do dermal fillers have any side effects?
Most people tolerate dermal filler injections very well, even after many years of use. However, with any medical procedure, there are some temporary side-effects such as swelling, redness, and bruising. These normally resolve after several hours or days.
It is also possible to develop some rare complications, such as infection or lumps (called granulomas). The good news is if patients need to reverse the filler, it can be instantly dissolved with a special enzyme.
In extremely rare cases, dermal filler can block blood supply if injected into the blood vessels rather than beneath the skin. This can lead to skin death and, in severe cases, blindness. It is for this reason that we always stress seeing a highly experienced cosmetic injector who knows how to avoid these complications.
How long do dermal fillers last?
Dermal fillers are not permanent and will eventually be absorbed by the body. How quickly this happens will depend on factors such as the treatment area, the type of filler used and your skin type, lifestyle, and age.
As a general rule, you can expect dermal fillers to last between nine months and two years, although dermal lip fillers may only last for around six months. If this is your first time having dermal fillers, keep in mind that you may require regular treatments every few months before reaching your aesthetic goals. After this, we suggest scheduling top-up treatments every six to 12 months.
How do I prepare for dermal fillers?
There are a number of things that you should do to prepare for a dermal filler treatment. Most importantly, you will need to avoid anything that may thin the blood, including alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, omega-3 supplements, and vitamin E for a week before treatment. If you are prone to cold sores, you may need to speak to your doctor about taking prophylactic medication prior to treatment. If you have had a recent COVID-19 vaccination, be sure to wait at least two weeks before scheduling your dermal filler treatment.
Do dermal fillers hurt?
At Cosmos Aesthetics, we always numb the treatment area prior to administering dermal filler injections, which keeps the process relatively comfortable. You may feel slight pressure or a stinging sensation as the product is injected; however, whether or not you find it painful will depend on the area treated and your own pain tolerance.
What can I do if I don’t like my results?
If you don’t like your dermal filler results, you have a few options. If you’d prefer a more dramatic look or want to balance some asymmetry, your injector can administer additional dermal filler. On the other hand, if you are completely unhappy with how your filler looks, we can inject an enzyme into the treatment area that dissolves the product completely.
How much dermal filler do I need?
Every patient will require a different amount of dermal filler to achieve their desired results. Typically, we suggest beginning with a single syringe in the lips or each cheek, especially if you are new to filler and are looking for a natural enhancement. However, if you find this is not enough, we encourage you to return to Cosmos Aesthetics Sydney to see whether an extra ml of filler can help you achieve your cosmetic goals. During your consultation, your cosmetic injector will discuss with you how much dermal filler will best help you achieve your desired outcomes.
