While some people never admit having gone under the knife, some of us just take a little while. Take Betty white, 89, who just last year complained of not recognising friends who have had cosmetic surgery.

“I know the voice but here’s this new face and I have no idea who it is. I’m just lucky gravity has taken over so I don’t need it.”

But in her new book, Betty admitted to having had surgery in her forties. And thus, yet another Hollywood role model, famed for her ability to ‘age gracefully’, has revealed the cosmetic help she has used to achieve her completely natural look. In this case, eyelid surgery, or in medical terminology: blepharoplasty.

Blepharoplasty, a form of eyelid surgery

If nothing else, Betty White’s admission to having had eyelid surgery. a form of eyelid surgery, is one option for addressing certain aging signs around the eyes. It’s important to note that individual results can vary

For many women, the area of their body which most gives away their age is their eyes, as they are they are often the most susceptible area to drooping, puffiness, excess skin, crows feet, and hollowness.

For many women, however, what gives their eyes a tired or ‘aged’ look is an excess of fat around the upper and lower eyelids. In fact, these excessively droopy upper eyelids can even interfere with vision and visual field perception.

The Procedure

Blepharoplasty is performed under anaesthetic where a doctor will make incisions along the eyelid lines, often both along the upper lids and below the lashes of the lower lids. The doctor will then remove excessive fat in the affected areas before resealing the areas and performing laser skin resurfacing to minimise recovery time. Though the procedure does have length recover period of a few weeks, the results are often permanent.

Other Eye Procedures

While blepharoplasty is highly effective at creating a fresh youthful result in the right candidate, it will not correct wrinkles or hollowness around the eyes. For these, the solution is far less invasive, and can be achieved through targeted Anti Wrinkle Injections and Dermal Filler injections.

Anti Wrinkle Injections

Wrinkles are often caused by repeated small muscle contractions, and this is particularly true of the small muscles surrounding the eyes. Crows feet as probably the most obvious example of the effects of small muscle contractions, and can add years to your face if not treated properly. Using a muscle relaxant injected in precise amounts at specific locations, cosmetic physicians are now able to dramatically reduce or eliminate the appearance of eye wrinkles and crows feet.

Dermal Fillers

For many men and women, a feature that most ages them can be a hollowness or sunkenness around the eyes. Luckily, this too can be quite easily and non-invasively corrected using natural dermal fillers.

Injected in tiny amounts just below the first layer of the skin, Dermal Filler can plump and literally ‘fill’ the areas causing hollowness and sagginess around the eye area, creating a fresher, more youthful look in just under an hour. While there is usually more bruising and swelling that goes with fillers than there is with muscle relaxant, the results can lust anywhere from a year to 18 months.
