THE RESULTS
We offer liposuction to the thighs at all of our Cosmos Aesthetics (Sydney, Adelaide, Gold Coast and Canberra). After the procedure, you will be able to enjoy a slimmer thigh contour. Vaser technology aims to redistribute thigh fat more evenly and may assist in skin tightening. However, individual results, including skin laxity post-procedure, vary.
For those who aren’t quite ready for surgery, we also offer a non-surgical liposuction alternative called CoolSculpting, which can achieve more subtle results.
THE PROCEDURE
Here at Cosmos Aesthetics, all of our liposuction procedures are performed via Vaser technology. Vaser (“Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance”) is the newest advancement in liposuction and uses ultrasonic energy to break apart fat cells before they are removed from the body.
Vaser is considered a far gentler alternative to traditional liposuction techniques. In the past, liposuction was not as refined, with many doctors comparing the process to trying to suck a brick of fat out through a straw. This resulted in a more painful procedure with longer recovery times. On the other hand, Vaser delivers ultrasound heat, which separates fat cells from the fibrous tissue to create a more butter-like consistency. This process makes the unwanted fat much easier to remove from the body. Furthermore, the ultrasound heat delivered with Vaser also tightens the skin, which minimises the amount of skin laxity after the procedure.
Your thigh liposuction procedure will be performed under twilight sedation and local anaesthesia, although you can opt for a general anaesthetic if preferred. Once numb, your Cosmos Aesthetics doctor will make a tiny incision, likely in the groin crease, bikini line or buttock crease, to insert the Vaser probe. This probe is moved back and forth in order to heat and liquefy the unwanted fat cells. As the tissue is broken apart, your doctor will use a cannula to vacuum the fat out of the body.

OUR EXPERIENCE
Liposuction forms the core of our practice here at Cosmos Aesthetics. In fact, we were the first practice in New South Wales to use Vaser technology, which we now use Australia wide to treat unwanted thigh fat. Today, we own more Vaser systems than anywhere else in the world.
You can undergo your thigh liposuction consultation and subsequent procedure at any of our cosmetic clinics in Australia. We have clinics in Sydney, Adelaide, Gold Coast and Canberra.
If you aren’t from any of these cities, don’t worry – we treat several interstate and overseas patients every year. Given this, we have set procedures in place for those travelling to us for surgery. If you are considering this, please send us images of your thighs and let us know which clinic you’d like to visit and where you are located. That way, our staff can provide you with all of the appropriate information in a personalised quote.
POST SURGERY
Since thigh liposuction is a minimally invasive procedure, patients can usually return home on the same day as surgery. You can expect to experience some mild pain and discomfort, however, your doctor will prescribe medications to help relieve this. It is also normal to experience some fluid seepage from your incision sites for around 3-5 days after surgery. Despite this, recovery is ultimately quite easy, and most patients can return to work after one week.
To reduce swelling, ease healing and help the skin retract, patients must wear a compression garment for three weeks full time and three weeks part-time after surgery. We also encourage our patients to return to the clinic for regular follow up lymphatic massages to improve healing further, usually twice a week for two weeks.
Before your thigh liposuction procedure, be sure to familiarise yourself with the do’s of liposuction recovery:
While the thighs are a common area of concern for many patients, everyone accumulates thigh fat in different areas. The thighs can be broken down into the following areas:
We know how much cost factors into your decision to undergo liposuction to the thighs. However, Vaser liposuction does not fit a one price fits all strategy, and costs will vary from patient to patient. Your thigh liposuction cost will depend on various factors, such as:
At Cosmos Aesthetics, our thigh liposuction procedures start at $5,500. However, if you wish to address multiple body areas in the one procedure, this can minimise overall costs and recovery times. For each additional area treated, we charge $2,500 on top of the base price. To receive the most accurate liposuction quote, we recommend booking a consultation with one of our doctors.
Not everyone is a candidate for surgery. You may be a suitable candidate for thigh liposuction if you fit the following criteria:
Of course, the above is just a guide: to determine whether you are a suitable candidate for thigh liposuction, your best bet is to meet with one of our doctors for a consultation.
To help you prepare for the procedure, your doctor will provide you with specific pre-operative instructions during your consultation. To prevent surgical complications, patients must quit smoking at least two weeks prior to surgery, and your doctor may also ask that you avoid certain medications and supplements. To make your recovery more comfortable, we recommend purchasing some comfortable clothes, filling any needed prescriptions and preparing some healthy meals before your procedure. You will also need to arrange for someone to pick you up from the hospital and assist with tasks at home for a few days.
During your thigh liposuction procedure, you will be placed under twilight sedation and local anaesthesia. As a result, you should not feel any pain during surgery. While discomfort is normal during recovery, your doctor will prescribe medications to alleviate this.
The length of your thigh liposuction procedure will depend on the amount of fat removed and whether you are treating other areas of the body at the same time. As a general rule, you can expect your procedure to take between one and four hours to complete.
Our Cosmos Aesthetics doctors always endeavour to achieve optimal fat reduction results in a single procedure. However, patients who wish to remove large amounts of fat may require a second procedure to achieve their preferred results. Your doctor will advise whether you will benefit from additional procedures during your consultation.
While you may notice a subtle improvement in your thigh contour immediately after surgery, your thighs will also be quite swollen. You will need to wait for post-operative swelling to subside and the skin to retract and tighten before your final results appear. Over the next three to six months, your results will gradually improve, with the final result being visible at around six months after surgery.
After your liposuction procedure, the fat cells removed from the thighs will never return. However, the remaining fat cells can grow in size, so it is still possible for you to gain weight. To ensure you enjoy your results for years to come, we strongly recommend making lifestyle changes after surgery, such as eating a healthier diet and exercising more regularly.
Depending on your aesthetic goals and the amount of thigh fat, your Cosmos Aesthetics doctor will remove between three and five litres of fat during your Vaser liposuction procedure. Unfortunately, removing more than this can put your safety and comfort at risk. According to one study, removing more than five litres of fat can increase complication rates by 3.7 percent. If you wish to remove more than five litres of fat from the thighs, you will need to undergo multiple liposuction procedures.
Many patients wish to remove fat from multiple areas of the body during a single liposuction procedure. In addition to the thighs, common treatment areas include the abdomen, flanks, hips, back and arms.
While scarring is an inevitable part of any surgical procedure, significant scarring following liposuction is uncommon. After all, the incisions required to insert the Vaser probes are only small, and your doctor will place them in areas of the thighs that can be easily hidden. With proper scar management, any noticeable scars will fade over time.
Although Vaser is regarded as safer than traditional liposuction, every invasive procedure comes with risks. However, serious complications are rare, and we’ve performed thousands of thigh liposuction procedures without incident. Some of the potential side effects you may experience after surgery include:
