WHAT DOES A FAT FREEZING TREATMENT INVOLVE

    Understanding the Procedure

What happens during a CoolSculpting appointment?

During the appointment, the problem areas of the body are marked up and drawn on to align with the applicator being used, before a gel pad is applied to protect the skin. The vacuum application device is then placed over the targeted area, which suctions the tissue including the skin and fat up into the treatment cup. As the cooling process begins, patients will feel a tugging pressure and cold sensation, followed by numbness in the area. The procedure typically lasts between 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the treatment area. Patients are able to watch shows on their phones, read, listen to music, or just relax during the treatment process.

After the applicator is removed, the treated area may be massaged briefly to break up the frozen fat cells and enhance the fat reduction process. It’s imperative that visible results will not be immediate. The body naturally processes and eliminates the treated fat cells slowly over the weeks and months following treatment.

Is there any downtime after having CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is a non-surgical fat reduction treatment, and patients usually experience minimal downtime. After the treatment, some patients will notice side effects including temporary redness, swelling, numbness, and tenderness in the treatment area. These side effects are generally mild and subside on their own with time. Individual experiences always vary, and whilst some patients are able to return to their normal activities after having a treatment, others may prefer to take it easy for a couple of days.

Are there any risks from having CoolSculpting?

Paradoxical Adipose Hyperplasia (PAH) is a rare and unexpected side effect that can occur after a CoolSculpting treatment. Instead of the expected reduction in fat tissue, PAH results in an enlargement of the treated area. The exact cause of PAH is not fully understood, but it appears as a firm, painless, well-demarcated mass in the area that was treated several months after the procedure.

The risk of developing PAH is considered to be very low. However, it’s important for patients to be aware of this potential side effect. If PAH does occur, it can be effectively treated and most often requires surgical intervention with liposuction for correction. As always, it’s essential to have a consultation to discuss the potential risks and benefits of the treatment before deciding to proceed.

CoolSculpting in Action Who is a good candidate for a CoolSculpting treatment in Adelaide?

Good candidates for treatment are close to their healthy weight, with areas of stubborn fat that resist diet and exercise. Individuals with realistic expectations, who understand that the procedure targets localised fat pockets, rather than providing overall weight loss, are the most suitable, and most satisfied with their treatment results.

How many fat freezing treatments will I need?

Depending on the individual, most patients are able to see an improvement after one round of non-invasive fat reduction treatments. However, for optimal results, multiple treatment sessions may be recommended. More information on how many sessions you might need to achieve optimal results will be discussed during your appointment.

Are the results from fat freezing permanent?

Once the fat cells have been destroyed, they can’t grow back, meaning the treatment results are permanent. However, there will always be fat cells remaining in each treated area, these remaining cells can shrink and grow in size depending on the individual’s lifestyle including weight gain or weight loss.

How much does a CoolSculpting treatment cost?

Treatments start from an average of $450 per application. Packages and further special pricing are available at individual clinic locations. Please contact your clinic of choice to learn more and confirm your treatment plan costs.
