Liposuction

Liposuction Adelaide

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat deposits from specific areas of the body. Using a small tube called a cannula, unwanted fat cells are suctioned out of the body to reduce the amount of excess fat in the treated areas. Vaser Liposuction is not weight loss surgery, and undergoing liposuction is best suited for individuals with realistic result expectations and stubborn pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise.

The Liposuction Journey at Cosmos Adelaide

Initial Consultations

The initial consultations for Vaser Liposuction are an important and mandatory step in the process of considering undergoing liposuction surgery. During these appointments, you will meet with your treating doctor for liposuction in Adelaide, who will assess your candidacy for the procedure, discuss your goals and expectations, examine the areas of concern, and evaluate your overall health. The doctors at our Adelaide clinic will explain the Vaser Liposuction technique, assess your suitability to undergo cosmetic surgery, the type of sedation to be used for your body contouring procedure, the areas being treated, and the projected recovery time you may potentially experience.

During the initial consultations you will provided with comprehensive information to read and consider detailing the risks, side effects, and complications of Vaser Liposuction, as well as potential benefits, and realistic outcomes that can potentially be achieved. A mandatory minimum seven day cooling off period following the second consultation is required, along with a referral from your GP. Attending the required initial consultations are an opportunity to ask questions, address any concerns, and ensure you have a clear understanding of the procedure before making a decision about whether you wish to proceed.

The Cost of Liposuction Surgery

The cost for liposuction surgery in Adelaide varies depending on the patient and factors such as the number of areas being treated, the amount of fat to be removed, as well as the body weight and build of the enquiring patient. A detailed and individual quote for your individual circumstances and areas of concern will be provided to you during your initial consultations. Your quote will include an itemised breakdown of costs, such as your IV sedation or general anaesthetic fees, hospital facility fees, post-operative follow ups, and the required compression garments.

At Cosmos Adelaide, liposuction procedures will always start from a minimum base price of $6000, with each additional area costing a smaller fee from a minimum $2000, depending on the size, fat density, and individual factors of each patient. Please note that these prices are just a guide, and the total cost for surgery will vary based on your individual circumstances.

After completing the mandatory seven day cooling off period following your second consultation, a booking fee is required if you decide to proceed with having a liposuction procedure. This fee covers the pre-operative appointment and the cost of your compression garments. Following this a non-refundable deposit of 30% of the total cost is required. The remaining balance must be paid at least ten working days before your procedure. Cosmos Adelaide does not offer payment plans or financing options, and please note that Medicare does not currently cover liposuction or cosmetic surgery in Australia.

The Day of Your Liposuction Procedure

A member of our Adelaide team will contact you before your procedure to provide you with the necessary details, including the time you should arrive at our facility for check-in. It is recommended to shower the night before and the morning of the surgery, preferably using an antibacterial shower gel, which can be purchased from any pharmacy. You will also be given specific instructions about fasting, which will include refraining from consuming food or liquids for a certain number of hours before your scheduled arrival time.

Your liposuction procedure will be carried out at our fully licensed and accredited facility in Adelaide. Upon arrival, our nursing team will conduct routine measurements and assessments, such as recording your weight, blood pressure, heart rate, and temperature. The areas of your body that will be treated during the procedure will be marked up and drawn on. You will also have a final pre-procedure consultation with your doctor to answer any remaining questions you may have.

Undergoing Vaser Liposuction Surgery in Adelaide

Vaser Liposuction is performed under either IV sedation and a tumescent local anaesthetic numbing solution, or general anaesthesia with a tumescent local anaesthesia numbing solution. The specific type of anaesthesia for your individual procedure will be discussed during your initial consultations with the doctor.

During the procedure, small incisions will be made in each of the areas being treated. A specialised probe that utilises ultrasound energy waves will be used to break apart and liquify the excess fat deposits in the treatment areas. A cannula will then be used to extract the unwanted fat cells from the body via the tiny incision sites.

The duration of liposuction surgery can vary depending on the complexity of your case, the number of areas being treated, and whether you are undergoing any additional fat transfer elements. It can take anywhere between 30 minutes to 3 hours.

Following surgery, you will spend the next few hours resting in the recovery ward under the observation and care of our dedicated nursing team. The recovery nurses will assist you with walking, eating, drinking, and going to the bathroom, and prepare you for a safe discharge home, which will be on the same day.

Prior to deciding to undergo liposuction, all patients must understand that the experiences and outcomes of one person, does not reflect or guarantee the outcomes another person may receive. Liposuction is a surgical procedure and the final results achieved vary due to multiple factors.

Post-Procedure Care and the Recovery Process

After a liposuction procedure, it is essential that all patients adhere to the post-procedure aftercare instructions provided to them and attend all scheduled follow up appointments. Cosmos Adelaide patients are all provided with specific instructions for wearing their compression garments, managing pain and nausea following liposuction surgery, as well as performing daily lymphatic drainage massage on their treated areas daily.

Swelling will fluctuate over the weeks following your surgical procedure as your body heals. By six weeks post procedure, the results from your Vaser Lipo will become increasingly more visible, but the final results from liposuction surgery can take up to six months or longer to fully appear. By adhering to post-operative care instructions and maintaining a healthy lifestyle encompassing regular exercise and a balanced diet, long-term results and the benefits of liposuction can be sustained.

FAQs

Frequently asked

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that carries risks, side effects, and complications, which can be permanent. Common side effects such as swelling, bruising, discomfort, and temporary numbness are typically experienced, but will usually resolve with time and adhering to all aftercare requirements throughout the recovery process.

Whilst rare, potential complications can include but are not limited to infections, blood clots, excessive bleeding, uneven results, changes in skin sensation, or adverse reactions to anaesthesia and medications.

Whilst liposuction is generally considered a safe procedure, it’s important to remember that individual responses and results vary. The outcomes experienced by one person do not necessarily reflect or guarantee the outcomes or results that other people may achieve.

Discussing all the potential side effects and risks with your doctor during the initial consultations, your individual situation and result expectations, and following all post-operative instructions, can help minimise the severity of complications experienced.
