Liposuction Sydney
Liposuction is a surgical procedure offered at our Sydney clinic that may help in removing stubborn fat cells from suitable areas of the body. Also referred to as liposculpture or body contouring, Vaser Liposuction Sydney may help to reduce unwanted fat deposits in targeted areas but is not a weight loss procedure.

Types of Liposuction procedures
At Cosmos Aesthetics Sydney, we use Vaser Liposuction. This liposuction technique involves tiny incisions in the targeted area to address stubborn fat. Using ultrasound, fat cells are liquefied and then removed via a cannula through the small incision in each treated area.
Vaser Hi-Definition Liposuction is also available at our Sydney clinic and can remove excess fat from around muscle groups for a more defined, athletic look. This cutting-edge procedure, performed by our skilled team, ensures optimal results tailored to each individual’s goals.
Common body areas treated with Vaser Lipo
Abdomen:
Liposuction surgery can target both the upper and lower abdomen to remove excess fat for a flatter stomach appearance. It is important to understand that abdominal liposuction is not the same surgical procedure as an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck).
Patients with both excess skin and loose skin in the abdomen, may require a tummy tuck which is a plastic surgery procedure performed by a specialist plastic surgeon.
Flanks/Love Handles:
Undergoing Vaser Liposuction on the flanks/love handles can help to contour the waist by reducing stubborn fat deposits in the treated areas.
Back and Bra Line:
Vaser Liposuction can address the unwanted small pockets of fat in the upper back and lower back, to create a smoother appearance of the bra line area.
Arms:
Fat removal with Vaser Lipo can help reduce the amount of fat from the underside of the upper arms, to achieve the appearance of toned arms.
Chest Liposuction:
Also known as gynaecomastia liposuction, this type of liposuction procedure can target excess fat deposits in the chest or “man boobs” area. In male patients deemed suitable, Vaser Liposuction may be a treatment option which could be used to treat gynaecomastia, a condition characterised by the enlargement of glandular tissue and excess fatty tissue in the male breasts. In suitable candidates with realistic expectations, Vaser Liposuction can also be used for breast reduction surgery in suitable female candidates at our Sydney clinic.
Buttocks:
Vaser Lipo can be used to reduce the amount of fatty tissue in the buttocks, and for the treated area to be contoured into a smaller, more proportionate shape. Removing unwanted fat in the buttocks is a different cosmetic procedure to a fat transfer to the buttocks (BBL surgery).
Thighs:
In suitable candidates with realistic expectations, thigh liposuction can address excess fat accumulation in specific areas of the legs including the inner thighs, outer thighs, front thighs, and back thighs.
Calves and Ankles:
Vaser Liposuction can be beneficial for suitable individuals who have disproportionate fat deposits in the targeted area of their lower legs.
Chin and Neck:
Reducing the appearance of a double chin and excess fat in the neck, can result in the appearance of facial definition by treating the small pockets of fat in the areas.
Understanding the cost of Vaser Lipo
How much does liposuction cost?
The cost for liposuction surgery in Sydney is individual and depends on various factors such as the number of areas being treated, the amount of fat to be removed, as well as the body weight and build of the patient.
During your initial consultations, a detailed and individual quote will be provided to you, taking into account your specific circumstances and areas of concern. This quote will include an itemised breakdown of costs, such as your IV sedation or general anaesthetic fees, hospital facility fees, post-operative follow ups, and the required compression garments.
At Cosmos Aesthetics, liposuction procedures will always start from a minimum base price of $6000, with each additional area costing a smaller fee from a minimum $2000, depending on the size, fat density, and individual factors of each patient. The total costs incurred to each patient will vary and these prices are just a guide. All of the costs for your individual procedure will be detailed and provided to you by our doctors.
Initial payment and deposit
Before you are able to book for liposuction surgery, you must complete the mandatory minimum seven day cooling off period following the second initial consultation with your treating doctor. To secure a spot for your procedure, the initial payment fee includes the pre-operative appointment and your compression garments. Following this, a non-refundable 30% deposit is required, with the total balance due at least ten working days before the date of your procedure. At Cosmos Sydney, we don’t offer payment plans or financing options. Additionally, Medicare and health insurance in Australia don’t currently cover liposuction surgery or cosmetic surgery.
Preparing to have a Vaser Lipo procedure
Initial consultations
At our Sydney clinic, every patient wanting to undergo cosmetic surgery in Australia, requires a GP referral prior to having two mandatory initial consultations with our doctors. One consultation may be done via telehealth, and one consultation must be in-clinic, meeting face to face with the doctor performing your liposuction surgery.
To ensure you are a good candidate, these initial consultations cover topics such as pre-existing medical conditions, if you have realistic expectations, motivation for liposuction surgery, the potential risks, complications, side effects, and downtime from surgery.
The doctor will assess your fat deposits and the body areas you are considering treating, and discuss alternatives to having cosmetic surgery, including other procedures and not having a liposuction procedure at all. Your individual quote including answers to common questions including how much does liposuction cost, will be provided to you during these initial consultations.
Pre-procedure preparations
At an appointment prior to the procedure, you will meet with members of our Sydney team for a pre-operative appointment. Your pre-op before photos will be taken, measurements for your compression garments organised, and testing such as blood tests and ultrasounds are scheduled or reviewed.
What to expect on the day of the procedure
A Sydney team member will call prior to your procedure to inform you of your arrival time for hospital check in. It is important to have a shower the night before and morning of surgery (ideally with an antibacterial shower gel available from any pharmacy). Specific fasting instructions will be provided to you, including not consuming food or liquids for a minimum number of set hours before your arrival time.
Upon arrival, the nursing team will take measurements and readings (such as weight, blood pressure, heart rate, temperature), the areas of the body to be treated are drawn on and marked up, and you will meet with the doctor to have any remaining questions answered in your final pre-procedure consultation. Your liposuction procedure will be performed at our fully licensed and accredited facility in Sydney.
Having Vaser Liposuction surgery
Vaser Liposuction is a surgical procedure performed using either IV sedation and a tumescent local anaesthetic numbing solution, or general anaesthesia with a tumescent local anaesthesia numbing solution. The specific anaesthesia being used for your individual procedure will have been organised during your initial consultations with the doctors, paid for in full, and confirmed with you by the anaesthetist.
Your doctor will make small incisions in each of the treated areas, and a specialised probe utilising heat generating ultrasound energy waves, the technology of Vaser Lipo will be used to break apart and liquify the excess fat deposits in the targeted area. A cannula and small suction device will then be used to permanently extract the emulsified fat cells from the body via the tiny incision sites.
Depending on the Vaser Lipo procedure being performed, if you are undergoing any additional fat transfer elements, the complexity of your case, and the number of areas being treated, liposuction surgery can take between 30 minutes up to 3 hours.
At the completion of surgery, the next few hours are spent resting in the recovery ward under the observation and care of our dedicated nursing team. The recovery nurses will help you get ready by assisting you with walking, eating, drinking, going to the bathroom, and preparing you for a safe discharge home, which will be on the same day.
Please note that individual experiences, responses, and results vary due to multiple factors, and the experiences and outcomes one person receives from Vaser Lipo does not necessarily reflect the outcomes that other people may achieve.
Aftercare and recovery post-procedure
After a liposuction procedure, adhering to the post-procedure aftercare instructions and attending your scheduled follow up appointments is essential. Cosmos Sydney patients are all provided with specific instructions for wearing their compression garments, managing pain and nausea following liposuction surgery, as well as self-performing daily lymphatic drainage massage on the treated areas.
We ask all our patients to come in for scheduled follow-up appointments at our Sydney clinic, to review your progress, adjust your compression garments if needed, and provide relevant care to support your procedure outcome. Attending any scheduled follow-up appointments and self-massaging daily is essential during your recovery time.
Long-term recovery and lifestyle adjustments
Swelling will fluctuate over the weeks following your surgical procedure as your body heals. By six weeks post procedure, the results from your Vaser Lipo will become increasingly more visible, but the final results from liposuction surgery can take up to six months or longer to fully appear. By adhering to post-operative care instructions and maintaining a healthy lifestyle encompassing regular exercise and a balanced diet, long-term results and the benefits of liposuction can be sustained.
Liposuction for different body types
Vaser Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure that may be a suitable treatment option for good candidates with all different body shapes, to target and remove excess fat from specific areas of the body.
However, lipo should never be seen as an option to obtain an “ideal” body shape or to “fix” any natural variations in body types. Liposuction is also never a substitute or excuse to not maintain a healthy lifestyle with a good diet and exercise, and it is never possible to obtain a “perfect” body shape even with surgical intervention as the “perfect body” does not exist.
Addressing male-specific body concerns
Male-specific liposuction can target areas such as the lower abdomen, upper abdomen, flanks/love handles, in the chest (to treat gynecomastia or “man boobs”), and the chin/neck to remove excess fat in the targeted area.
Results and effectiveness
Liposuction should not be considered a weight loss procedure even if a patient is considering undergoing a large volume of fat removal. The success of a liposuction procedure is best measured in terms of the desired results and improved shape change produced in the treated areas. Liposuction results are typically long-lasting, but maintaining a stable weight and a healthy lifestyle is crucial for preserving the best outcome.
Whilst the targeted fat cells are permanently removed, new volume can still accumulate in untreated areas, and the remaining fat cells in the treated areas can enlarge with weight gain. Adhering to a balanced diet and regular exercise is imperative to maintaining the results from Vaser Lipo over time.

Frequently asked
Vaser Lipo typically provides long-lasting results. Once fat deposits in the targeted areas are reduced, the shape change and reduction of the fat cells can be maintained. However, all individuals considering having lipo must remember that individual experiences, responses, and results will always vary, and the experiences and outcomes experienced by one person do not necessarily reflect the outcomes that other people may experience due to multiple factors.
However, following a healthy lifestyle with proper diet and exercise is essential to preserve the outcome, and good candidates with realistic expectations who undergo this surgery procedure usually enjoy the benefits of liposuction for years to come.
The words are often used interchangeably, but liposuction describes the procedure itself while liposculpture is better used to describe the results. To learn more about how Vaser Lipo works for body contouring, please book your initial consultations with one of our doctors in Sydney NSW.
Alternatively, please contact one of our other clinics in Australia conveniently located in Adelaide, Canberra, and on the Gold Coast.
