Fun: The first documented liposuction by ancient civilization

While liposuction evolved into the modern procedure it is today from developments in the 1970’s, it may surprise to learn that the first recorded procedure that could be considered liposuction occurred in 39 A.D. Lucius Apronius Caesianus, son of Roman military commander Lucius Apronius and consul of Caligula, had a son of his own, Apronius (original names were not high on their list of priorities), who was so obese he was unable to move. According to Natural History, the famous book by Pliny The Elder, said to cover all ancient knowledge of the natural world, states that Apronius (the son) was cured by a primitive liposuction procedure.

Experts say overeating isn’t what’s making you fat

It’s safe to say the general perception of what’s making us fat is what we are eating and how much of it.

Obesity expert and professor of nutrition at Harvard, Dr David Ludwig, says that while what we are eating is one of the problems, it’s getting fat in the first place that is the cause of overeating. In his recent book Always Hungry, Ludwig looks into the obesity epidemic and discusses why certain foods are acting like ‘fat fertilisers’.

Getting Rid of Excess Skin after Major Weight Loss

With the National Health Survey reporting that one in four Australian men and women are not just overweight, but obese, more people are opting for gastric bypass surgery, or making dramatic lifestyle changes which result in equally dramatic weight loss. These shows, public health initiatives, and other trends have mobilized more people to lose weight to improve their health. Is a Low-Carb Diet the Best Way to Lose Weight?

The low-carb diet was first made famous by the incredibly popular Atkins diet comprised of high protein, medium fat and low carbohydrate.  The core concept of the diet was that blood-sugar would remain consistent and food cravings would reduce.  Eating meat, seafood, dairy and vegetables claimed to “flip the body’s metabolic switch” so that instead of burning carbs our body’s would burn fat.

For years there has been debate over what diet is the most effective for weight loss, in particular, low-carb versus low-fat.  A recent study suggests low-carb diet is a clear winner but is it really the best way to lose weight?

Here’s why Aussie mums consider Lipo

Having children can be one of the most fulfilling experiences, as you watch your body transform into something miraculous before creating a precious new person to bring into your life.  However, for some women pregnancy can also create feelings of self-consciousness as the skin of the abdomen, breasts and thighs stretch leading to sagging, isolated deposits of fat and stretch marks.

Liposuction has become a popular cosmetic surgery procedure for mums who want to work towards regaining their pre-pregnancy figure.  With kids running around, washing to be done, food to be cooked and bills to pay, it may feel as though there is not enough time to worry about your appearance.  However, when the craziness dies down at the end of a long day and your standing in front of the mirror, those extra kilos may be too difficult to ignore.

More Teenage Boys Are Undergoing Breast Reduction Surgery

The rise in the number of young men seeking breast reductions surgery has surpassed any other form of cosmetic surgery requested by teens.  According to American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the procedure increased by 14 percent last year, closely followed by dermabrasion, which increased by 11 percent.
