Vaser Liposuction
Vaser Liposuction is available at all our Cosmos Clinic’s in Double Bay, Sydney, &. Vaser Liposuction can be used on all areas of the body such as the tummy, love handles, arms, legs and neck. It can also be used for man boobs (gynecomastia), breast reduction and chubby cheeks.
Patients see a permanent change in their body shape after Vaser Liposuction – fat is distributed more evenly over the whole body as the fat cells have been removed.
During the procedure, a degree of skin tightening is also achieved thanks to the Vaser technology. Those looking for a greater degree of tightening and retraction can pair Vaser Liposuction with our Skin Tightening treatment.
Subtle results may be achieved via non-surgical liposuction called CoolSculpting.

Vaser Liposuction Overview & Cost
Potential Candidates for Vaser Liposuction
Vaser Liposuction may not be suitable for everyone. However, you might be a potential candidate if:
- You have excess fat that doesn’t respond to a balanced diet and consistent exercise.
- You are in good overall health, both physically and mentally.
- You have sufficient skin elasticity.
- You are prepared to maintain a healthy lifestyle post-procedure.
- You are either a non-smoker or are willing to stop smoking before and after the procedure.
How Vaser Liposuction is Performed
This procedure uses ultrasound energy to assist in breaking down fat cells for removal. After administering a numbing solution, a small ultrasound cannula is inserted into the fatty tissue. The energy disrupts the fat cells, turning them into a liquid-like state to be suctioned. Additionally, the process may influence collagen fibres beneath the skin.
Treatment Areas
Vaser Liposuction is versatile and can address a range of areas, including:
- Thighs: Inner, outer, front, and back.
- Midsection: Abdomen and flanks.
- Chest: Including for male chest fat reduction.
- Arms and Back: Upper arms, upper back.
- Lower Face and Neck: Including the chin, jawline, and neck.
- Legs: Knees, calves, and ankles.
Costs of Vaser Liposuction

What to Expect Post-Procedure
After Vaser Liposuction, compression garments will be applied to support healing and manage swelling. Fluid leakage may occur from the incision points for several days. Patients typically return to work within a week and are advised to avoid strenuous activity for a few weeks. Follow-up lymphatic massages are recommended to aid recovery.
Potential Side Effects of Vaser Liposuction
Like all surgical procedures, Vaser Liposuction comes with potential side effects, which include:
- Pain and tenderness.
- Temporary bruising and swelling.
- Minor scarring from incision points.
- Fluid accumulation beneath the skin.
- Irregularities in skin texture.
- Numbness or changes in sensation.
- Possible infection or blood clots.
These risks will be thoroughly discussed during your consultation to ensure you are fully informed before making a decision.
Frequently asked
Vaser Liposuction uses ultrasound energy to break down fat cells, offering a more precise approach than traditional methods. This technique helps to reduce trauma to surrounding tissues. While traditional liposuction directly removes solid fat, Vaser’s ultrasound breaks down the fat first, helping to facilitate removal.

You can expect your Vaser liposuction to take between one and four hours to complete, depending on the areas treated and the amount of fat removed.
Your Vaser liposuction procedure is performed using twilight sedation and local anaesthesia, so you should feel very little during the procedure. If you experience any discomfort or pain during recovery, you can treat and manage this with medications prescribed by your doctor.
Our doctors at Cosmos Clinic always aim to achieve the desired results during your initial liposuction procedure. However, the desired results are not a guarantee, and some patients may need additional treatments, depending on the amount of fat that needs to be removed.
You can remove up to 5L of fat in one session. If you wish to remove more than 5L of fat, you may need to have multiple Vaser procedures.
While scarring is an inevitable part of any surgical procedure, significant scarring after liposuction is rare. The incisions required to insert the Vaser probes are only small and will be placed in hidden locations.
Every invasive procedure comes with risks. Some of the potential side effects you may experience after your Vaser liposuction procedure include:
- Bruising and bleeding
- Pain and aching
- Excess skin
- Persistent swelling
- Poor scarring
- Fluid accumulation under the skin
- Asymmetry or skin irregularities
- Infections
- Blood clots
- Skin burns
- Numbness
The actual number of fat cells in a person’s body remains stable during their lifetime. Unless we become grossly obese, you do not grow more fat cells after adolescence. When the fat cells are removed by liposuction, it is very difficult to gain fat back in those areas. Muscle definition will remain even if you put weight on. These findings were published in the August issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. The full report can be read here. For more information see Fat Facts After Liposuction
Ultrasonic liposuction stimulates the formation of new collagen fibres. This allows the skin to retract – resulting in tighter, firmer skin.
Most of the results are obtained at 6 weeks. At this point, photos are taken to assess your progress. The final results may not be apparent for 3 – 6 months post-operatively. Strict adherence to the pre-operative and post-operative requirements is necessary in order to achieve the best possible results.
There are inherent risks and complications as there are with any surgery. You should be aware of the potential risks and discuss any concerns you may have with your doctor before your surgery is performed.
