    THE RESULTS

Defined, natural, and fuller breasts without breast implants

The size of your bust can be increased, shaped, and defined without inserting breast implants, but instead using fat reserves from other areas of your body like your abdomen, back, or thigh area. Our experienced doctors can help you to achieve a slight increase in bust size, and breasts that are symmetrical in appearance.

We recommend thinking about the goals that you would like to reach with breast fat transfer augmentation, and discussing your expectations with one of our doctors at Cosmos Clinic.

    OUR MELBOURNE CLINIC

    Cosmos Clinic
110 Church St, Hawthorn VIC 3122

    THE PROCEDURE

A natural-looking breast lift with a slight increase in fullness is achieved by gently transferring fat to the breasts from chosen fat donor sites of the body.

At Cosmos Clinic Melbourne, you won’t need general anaesthesia, as twilight sedation will efficiently be used, but you can opt for general anaesthesia if you prefer.

The amazing and effective Vaser liposuction technology is utilised to harvest fat from the area of your choice – you might wish to use fat from your thighs, abdomen, flanks, or back, if these areas on your body have enough fat storage that can be used. After the healthy fat cells are separated and purified, the fat will be transferred to the breasts, where your doctor will symmetrically shape and define fuller breasts.

Vaser is praised for being gentler than traditional liposuction. When using Vaser technology, about 80% of the fat cells are likely to survive the transfer into the breast tissue, while less than 50% of fat cells tend to survive the transfer when using traditional liposuction technology.

Depending on your individual goals, your doctor can increase the breast size by one or two cup sizes. If you’d like to increase your breasts by a larger size, multiple breast fat transfer procedures can be performed three to six months apart, to work towards your ideal outcome. The amount of time that your breast fat transfer augmentation procedure will be determined by individual factors, like the amount of fat that is required to be extracted with Vaser liposuction.

The procedure time will depend on individual factors, such as the amount of fat that will need to be transferred to achieve your desired outcome, but you will usually be in the operating theatre for about two to four hours.

    POST-TREATMENT

Ensure a good recovery after your breast fat transfer procedure

You should be able to go back home from the hospital on the same day of your breast fat transfer procedure, and already notice that your breasts look slightly larger – possibly even a bit bigger than you originally expected, but they will reduce in size slightly as only about 80% of the transferred fat cells will survive. To achieve a fuller result, your doctor can inject extra fat to your breasts. You may be able to return to work or your usual daily activities within around two to five days, however, you need to avoid any strenuous exercise, and heavy or overhead lifting for about a month.

A post-operative bra will help to support your breasts, in place of regular bras that contain underwire, for about six weeks. Wearing a compression garment over your liposuction areas for about three weeks full time, and then three weeks part-time, will also help to maximise the efficiency of your recovery.

It is normal to experience some pain and discomfort after your breast fat transfer procedure, so your doctor can prescribe pain medication to help you manage during your recovery. You may notice some fluid seepage at your incision points, but this is completely expected, and it should subside after a few days. Swelling will also reduce within the weeks after your procedure, and this will allow you to start to see your new breast shape.

Are there any risks or side effects of fat transfer breast augmentation that I need to be aware of?

Cosmos Clinic doctors have years of liposuction experience and have performed thousands of fat transfer breast augmentation procedures without any incidents occurring. However, even though breast fat transfer is a more natural breast augmentation than other breast augmentation procedures, it is still a surgical operation, and will inevitably carry some risks. These risks and side effects can include:

    • Pain and aching
    • Persistent swelling
    • Delayed healing
    • Bruising
    • Bleeding
    • Breast asymmetry
    • Infection
    • Scarring
    • Skin sensation changes
    • Fluid accumulation
    • Blood clots
    • Oil cysts
    • Death of fat cells (fat necrosis), prompting the need for revision surgery

Any concerns that you may have about the risks and side effects of a fat transfer breast augmentation, can be discussed during your consultation at Cosmos Clinic Melbourne.

Positives of breast fat transfer procedures

Considered as a more natural breast augmentation than other methods, breast fat transfer augmentation surgery comes with some benefits:

    • Breasts that appear natural: A more subtle breast enhancement procedure of around one to two cup sizes creates a more natural appearance than some procedures that involve breast implants.
    • Other areas of your body can be reshaped: The removal of fat from chosen areas such as the thighs, abdomen, and hips, can help sculpt the specific areas.
    • Not as invasive as other breast surgeries: Vaser liposuction and fat injections only need tiny incisions, so the risk of scarring is minimal. Breast fat transfer procedure is also linked with fewer risks and a shorter recovery time than other breast enhancement procedures.

Breast fat transfer surgery preparation tips

During your consultation, our doctor will give you specific pre-operative instructions. Some tips might be to:

    • Quit smoking at least two weeks prior to surgery, as smoking can delay healing and increase the risk of surgical complications
    • Avoid particular medications that could increase the risk of excessive bleeding during and after your procedure
    • Buy comfortable and loose clothing to wear after your surgery
    • Fill any required prescriptions that you will need so that you will not have to leave your home
    • Prepare some healthy meals so that you don’t need to cook too soon after your procedure
    • Arrange for someone to pick you up from the hospital and, if possible, to help with tasks at home for the first few days after your procedure

When will I see results and how long will they last?

After swelling subsides within a few weeks after your procedure, you’ll begin to see your new breast shape. You can expect to see results at around six to eight weeks after surgery, with final results becoming noticeable within six months. The fat that survives the breast transfer process will stay in your breasts permanently, but fluctuations in weight after the procedure can slightly change the size of your breasts. Following a healthy diet and exercise routine after your breast fat transfer augmentation procedure will help you to ensure that your results will last. You may need up to three or four fat transfers to reach your ideal results. At Cosmos Clinic Melbourne, we use advanced techniques that ensure a survival rate of over 80 percent, so that one procedure will be as effective as possible, but results will vary from person to person.

Will breast fat transfer augmentation cause noticeable scarring?

The incisions needed for liposuction and fat injections during the breast fat transfer augmentation procedure are tiny, and they will be placed in locations that are discreet. Therefore, on the rare chance that scarring does occur, it will be in an area that won’t be noticeable.

Will my risk of breast cancer be higher after breast fat transfer augmentation?

In contrast to misinformation, fat injected into the breasts will not make it harder for radiologists to detect breast cancer if you go for a mammogram, as stated by The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS). The fat transfer procedure has been widely accepted in Europe and Japan for over 20 years, and the RACS has ensured that fat transfer procedures will carry the same risks and chance of complications as other breast augmentation procedures. If you do go for a mammogram, we advise that you notify your radiologist that you have undergone a breast fat transfer procedure. This way, they will know that they will need to look out for any calcification that has occurred as a result of your procedure, and can determine the difference between this and the appearance of breast cancer.

How soon can I expect to see results?

You should see an enhancement in the size of your breasts straight after your procedure, however, this will be mainly due to swelling, that should subside within a few weeks after surgery and allow you to start to see your new breast contour. First results should appear at around six to eight weeks after surgery, and final results will be noticeable within six months.

Can I have multiple breast fat transfer augmentation procedures to make my breasts bigger?

If you are unsatisfied with your results after your first breast fat transfer augmentation procedure, you may be able to have multiple procedures in order to create fuller breasts, performed three to six months apart.

Is a breast fat transfer augmentation right for me?

A breast fat transfer can give you a more natural-looking enhancement in breast size than other procedures that require the use of breast implants, as it only gives you a subtle increase in size. If you are after a slight increase in size with the appearance of a breast lift, this procedure might be the perfect solution to help you reach your goals.

    If you:

    • Are in good physical and mental health
    • Are currently at a stable and healthy weight
    • Find that you are unsuitable for breast implants
    • Have skin that is firm
    • Have elastic skin
    • Are a non-smoker (or you are willing to quit before and after surgery)
    • Have realistic expectations as to what breast fat transfer can achieve
    • Do not have any blood circulation problems
    • Have enough fat stores on the other areas of the body to harvest and transfer to the breasts

You may be a good candidate for breast fat transfer augmentation.

We recommend accurately determining whether you are the right candidate for fat transfer to the breasts, by discussing with one of our doctors at consultation.
