Exercising After Your Brazilian Butt Lift

A Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) is a popular cosmetic surgery amongst women and men that is designed to increase the size of the buttocks and sculpt a person’s lower body shape.

Understandably, many clients who choose to undergo the procedure ask about exercising to maintain their BBL results. Many also want to know what are the best types of exercise to do and what should be avoided, as well as the effects weight loss can have on their new body shape.

Here, we share the answers to some of the common questions we are asked about exercise and the butt augmentation surgery.

When can I exercise after Brazilian Butt Lift surgery?

Cosmos Clinic advises BBL and Liposuction patients wait 4-6 weeks before resuming their workout program. This allows the body time to recover after cosmetic or plastic surgery and for the transferred fat cells to stabilise in the targeted area optimally with an established blood supply. Exercising before this time can impact the fat transfer and therefore, the overall BBL results.

Up until this time, BBL patients will still be experiencing some degree of swelling and bruising and will be wearing their compression garments at least part-time making it more difficult to exercise comfortably.

Do I need to exercise to maintain my BBL results?

The Brazilian Butt Lift procedure combines Vaser Liposuction to remove excess fat and contour the body shape. The fat cells removed are then transferred into the buttocks and surrounding areas to enhance the appearance of your behind.

While BBL and Vaser Liposuction removes body fat, they are not weight loss procedures.

A regular exercise routine, along with a healthy diet, is essential if you want to maintain the body contouring and toning results long term.

If you don’t exercise and your caloric intake increases exceeding your energy expenditure, you’ll be at risk of weight gain. This could occur in the treated areas of the body as well as the BBL fat. However, the actual body shape may not change significantly and will remain in proportion unless the bodyweight gain is dramatic.

Are there exercises that can help enhance my BBL?

Workout routines that target the glutes are ideal for maintaining and even enhancing your BBL results. Some of the more popular buttock exercises include squats, lunges, weighted bridges and donkey kicks.

Sidestep squats using resistance bands, step-ups and deadlifts are also great options for targeting your butt muscles.

If strength and weight training are not for you, there are other exercises that target the gluteal muscles such as hiking, pilates, kickboxing and incline bike riding. These cardio-based butt workouts are also great fat burning methods to help you maintain your newly acquired curves.

Compare a Brazilian Butt Lift Workout to BBL surgery here.

Should I avoid any particular exercise after BBL surgery?

After the 4-6 week recovery period and with the approval of your cosmetic surgery team, you are encouraged to return to your workout routine.

As BBL surgery uses your own fat cells to increase the size and enhance the overall shape of your buttocks, it is vulnerable to some changes if you gain or lose weight. Simply put, if you put on weight, your fat cells will grow. If you lose weight, your fat cells will shrink.

Too much high-intensity fat-burning exercise, like HIIT or Cross Fit workouts, may result in the shrinkage of your buttocks. As you can’t target areas of the body for fat loss, there is no guarantee that you won’t lose the new fat in your buttocks. It’s worth keeping in mind, your fat cells will grow again if you gain more weight.

What to Know About Liposuction and Your Cellulite

Cellulite happens to women of all shapes and sizes. In fact, it’s believed between 80-90% of women will experience the condition that causes the skin to dimple and look lumpy. But what happens when you have liposuction? Does removing fat cells improve or worsen the appearance of cellulite?

Here, we share what you need to know about the liposuction procedure and cellulite so you can have realistic expectations about the cosmetic surgery.

Will liposuction treat my cellulite?

Not exactly.

A liposuction surgical procedure may slightly improve the appearance of cellulite, but it won’t fix or remove it altogether. Traditional liposuction performed on a patient who has significant cellulite coupled with poor skin elasticity and tone can actually worsen dimples and skin irregularities such as stretch marks after the fat removal.

However, Vaser Liposuction used in conjunction with cosmetic procedures such as Bio Stimulating Injections or skin tightening can help to improve the skin’s appearance and your overall body contouring results.

Cosmetic practitioners use Bio Stimulating Injections to fill in the dips and dimples of targeted areas using your own fat cells. For those with thin or slightly loose skin, skin tightening, a procedure that tightens the skin using plasma energy after the stubborn fat deposits are removed through Vaser Liposuction, may be an option.

When these cosmetic procedures are performed by experienced cosmetic or plastic surgeons, not only is the appearance of the skin improved after the body contouring treatment but the likelihood of complications like skin dimpling is reduced significantly.

What will happen to my cellulite after liposuction?

Being a subcutaneous fat found typically on the thighs, tummy and love handles, many people believe cellulite will be treated during liposuction cosmetic surgery.

But when the excess fat is removed, isn’t the “cellulite fat” removed by the liposuction cannula too?

It’s not that simple. These superficial layers of fat are connected to the lower layers of skin by strong fibres. Essentially, cellulite isn’t an excess fat issue, more a problem occurring with the structure of the skin. Traditional liposuction techniques target the stubborn amount of fat cells rather than improving the strength and structure of the skin fibres.

The appearance of your cellulite will greatly depend on the skills of your cosmetic practitioner or plastic surgeon and the liposuction techniques used. One of the undesirable side effects of traditional liposuction methods is skin irregularities like dimpling, unevenness or unwanted pockets of fat which can actually worsen the appearance of your cellulite. This is one reason why we prefer the gentler technique of Vaser Liposuction.

What will happen to my skin after liposuction?

Liposuction is an effective method to remove excess body fat and contour your shape. If a significant amount of fat is being removed during the cosmetic or plastic surgery procedure, you may experience some sagging of the skin. The liposuction procedure itself doesn’t resolve loose skin alone, but in combination with methods such as a tummy tuck or skin tightening excess skin can be addressed.

For individuals considering liposuction in areas such as the tummy or arms who have thin skin or a moderate amount of loose skin, the latest skin tightening technology should be considered alongside Vaser Liposuction.

For those who have experienced weight loss or multiple pregnancies and have cellulite along with a significant amount of sagging skin around their tummy region, a tummy tuck may be a better option.

What are effective cellulite treatments?

If you are seeking cellulite treatments alone without the need for fat removal, there are several options that can result in improvement.

  1. Bio Stimulating Injections that stimulate the production of new collagen to help restore tightness to saggy skin and add volume.
  2. Harvest Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a non-invasive option that uses a high concentration of your own platelets & growth factors to help improve the skin’s texture.
  3. Fat injections using your own fat into the cellulite dimples to improve the appearance of cellulite and evenness of the skin.
  4. VaserSmooth that uses a probe to melts away noticeable superficial fat deposits.

It’s important to understand, regardless of whether you’re a healthy weight or have kilos to lose, cellulite is difficult to treat with most clients experiencing a 20-50% improvement with the appropriate treatments offered.

If you’re one of many women (or men) struggling with cellulite you can be rest assured there are several options that can improve the appearance of your orange peel looking skin. Contact our team at Cosmos clinic for individually tailored advice.

Is Bruising Normal After Vaser Liposuction?

Bruising is a normal part of the recovery process after a cosmetic surgery procedure, including Vaser Liposuction. Coupled with swelling, bruising is often one of the side effects patients are concerned with the most.

We answer the most common questions we get asked about bruising after Vaser Liposuction.

Why does post-surgical bruising occur?

Some bruising around the areas of the body treated with Vaser Liposuction should be expected as it is the body’s natural response to injury. During the fat removal cosmetic procedure, tissues are manipulated and some of the surrounding blood vessels can be injured by the liposuction cannula. This can cause a small leakage of blood into the tissues from the blood vessels and result in an obvious bruise.

Experienced cosmetic practitioners and plastic surgeons take great care to minimise bleeding during the liposuction procedure and post-operative swelling and bruising. However, even with great skill, precision and the latest technology, some amount of bruising should be anticipated.

How much bruising will I experience?

For most Vaser Liposuction patients, bruising and swelling are unwanted side effects of the body contouring cosmetic procedure but unfortunately a reality of the recovery process.

How much bruising you can expect after the surgical procedure will vary from patient to patient. It will depend on the extent of fat removal, how many incision sites are required, the location of the targeted fat cells and the likelihood of bruising. For example, people who are fair-skinned or have loose skin around the treatment area are more likely to experience significantly more bruising during the recovery time.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B1x6hGrjjnR/

If you have opted for traditional liposuction over Vaser Liposuction you may notice more bruising after the procedure. This is because Vaser liposuction is a much gentler treatment with small incision sites and more precise body sculpting results. The swelling and pain experienced are also typically greater in patients who undergo traditional liposuction.

How long will bruising last?

The bruising typically fades away after a few days and you’ll be able to start to see your liposuction results. Again, this will depend on the amount of body fat removed, the incisions required and how prone you are to bruising.

As the tissues heal, you’ll notice the bruises change in colour just as they would those that were incurred from any other injury. Your bruise may initially appear red before deepening to a dark blue, black or purple. Over time, these will fade to a yellowish-green tone before during a light brown and fading completely.

Even with significant bruising, you’ll see some fading in the first week and it may fully resolve after two weeks of recovery time. But don’t worry, bruising and general soreness shouldn’t keep you from resuming your normal activities shortly after your Vaser Liposuction surgery. These side effects should also improve with lymphatic drainage massages and the use of compression garments.

Is pain, redness and heat in the surgical area normal?

While bruising is a normal part of post-operative recovery, if you experience side effects such as increased pain, redness, fever or heat in the surgical area, it’s important to consult your cosmetic practitioner or doctor as this may indicate you have an infection. While chances of incurring a surgical site infection are rare with Vaser Liposuction, they can be serious if left untreated.

How can I reduce post-liposuction bruising?

There are several things you can do to reduce your bruising, especially if you have a high likelihood of experiencing this post-operative side effect.

  • Follow the post-operative instructions
For optimal recovery and reduced bruising, follow the post-operative instructions provided by your cosmetic surgery team. These are likely to include compression garments, lymphatic drainage massages, healthy diet and a restriction of some of your normal activities.
  • Apply ice packs
Using ice packs on the treatment area during the first few days of your recovery can help minimise bruising and bleeding by constricting the blood vessels.
  • Take supplements before and after
Pre and post-surgical supplementation of bromelain and arnica may help to minimise the bruising. Be sure to discuss this with your doctor to avoid unnecessary complications or side effects.
  • Discuss your medications
Before your Vaser Liposuction surgery, discuss the use of any medications including over-the-counter and painkillers as these can increase the risk of bruising.
  • Remain hydrated
Keeping hydrated by drinking plenty of water will help speed up recovery and flush out toxins. If you are dehydrated, consider a quality electrolyte supplement.
  • Eat plenty of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory foods
Antioxidants and the nutrients in anti-inflammatory foods can help to improve the healing process, reducing swelling and bruising.

Will a Charcoal Detox Help you Lose Weight?

The activated charcoal detox is a trending diet that claims to help with weight loss and keeping off the kilos by detoxifying the body of stored toxins.

But does the evidence stack up? Will the charcoal detox help you shed the unwanted kilos and keep it off?

What is the charcoal detox?

Charcoal originates from burnt coconut shells and is commonly available in a capsule or powder form. It features small holes on the surface which makes charcoal a porous material that acts like a sponge.

Activated charcoal has been long used in emergency rooms for the treatment of accidental poisonings or drug overdoses. Administered at the right dose and promptly, charcoal binds to the drug reducing its absorption in the gut and detrimental side effects. Sorry, it doesn’t bind well with alcohol so it isn’t a miracle hangover cure!

More recently, charcoal containing ‘detox’ health products have flooded the market thanks to international nutritionists and health-conscious celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow of Goop.

These detox diets and charcoal containing products claim result in impressive health benefits such as reducing your bloating, brightening your skin, increasing your energy and cleansing your body of toxins which supporters say encourages weight loss.

Charcoal powder is now so trendy, you can order a charcoal latte, icecream and even burger buns!

The charcoal detox program requires the individual to consume the activated charcoal in a powder mixed with water or juice or supplements for a period of time. Some detox guidelines advise avoiding food for at least 2 hours after consuming charcoal to reduce unwanted side effects.

Charcoal and weight loss: where is the evidence?

Do a web search and you’ll find plenty of sites claiming charcoal helps with weight loss through its detoxifying action.

One site (which will remain nameless) claims overweight and obese people often have a build-up of toxins in their gastrointestinal tract which would normally be cleaned via the liver and kidneys. However, these organs may not be functioning optimally.

The article goes on to state: removing these toxins and improving digestive function can help to normalise their metabolism and facilitate weight loss.

Unfortunately, there is no scientific evidence to back up these claims. In fact, there are no randomised controlled trials that assess the effectiveness of commercial detox diets like this in humans.

In a review of evidence into detox and fad diets, it has been found it’s not the program that results in weight loss. A decrease in weight can be credited to the reduced calorie intake and is likely to return once the individual stops detoxing.

Potential dangers of the charcoal detox

While it might be on-trend to consume Gwyneth Paltrow’s Charcoal Lemonade and cleanse your body, there are several reasons you should steer clear of charcoal detoxing products.

1. Activated charcoal binds to medications which can cause them to be less effective. Antidepressants, anti-inflammatory drugs and even the oral contraceptive pill (OCP).

2. Activated charcoal binds to the vitamins, minerals and antioxidants found naturally in foods. So, if you’re drinking your charcoal in a nutrient-dense smoothie, you’re not going to absorb any of the goodness thanks to the charcoal.

3. Activated charcoal can cause nasty side effects like constipation, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, especially when consumed in repeated doses which are required in these weight loss detoxification programs.

4. Activated charcoal can cause charcoal deposits on the gut wall, serious GIT issues like bowel obstruction or complications such as abscesses.

Bottom line: activated charcoal detox programs are not going to be your answer to weight loss or detoxification.

If you’re looking for a detox, you’re best to start with cleaning up your diet and consuming water and whole foods. Improving liver and kidney function can be achieved with nutrients and supplements under the guidance of a registered nutritionist or dietitian.

Best to leave activated charcoal to the medical staff in the emergency rooms.

3 Advantages of Vaser Liposuction Over Traditional Liposuction

Vaser Liposuction is a precise and effective way to remove stubborn fat deposits from problem areas such as the tummy, love handles, inner thighs and arms. It’s also one of the more superior body contouring cosmetic procedures available.

But how does it compare with traditional liposuction?

Here we explain the top three advantages Vaser Liposuction has over traditional liposuction.

1. Vaser Liposuction melts the fat

During a Vaser Liposuction procedure, an ultrasound probe is inserted into the targeted area through small incisions. The excess fat cells are melted before being removed from the body.

In comparison, traditional liposuction techniques use a cannula to separate or break up the fat cells before it is removed via vacuum suction.

This means Vaser Liposuction is a much gentler cosmetic surgery procedure than traditional liposuction and a lot less dramatic. Patients experience less pain, reduced bruising and shorter recovery time as a result. There is also a reduced chance of internal injuries sustained during the surgical procedure.

2. Vaser Liposuction achieves smoother results

As the fat cells have been liquified before removal in a Vaser Liposuction procedure, the cosmetic practitioners can achieve much smoother body contouring results. These results are further enhanced during the recovery process and after the wearing of compression garments and attendance of lymphatic massages.

It’s not uncommon for traditional liposuction patients to experience a bumpy appearance as the fat removal process isn’t as precise. Unwanted fat deposits can remain and cause unevenness in the problem areas. This leads to many recipients of traditional liposuction to seek corrective cosmetic procedures later on.

3. Vaser Liposuction promotes skin tightening

One of the key benefits of Vaser Liposuction over traditional liposuction methods is its ability to promote skin tightening. When the stubborn fat cells are melted during the Vaser cosmetic procedure, the skin tissue is heated through the ultrasound technology.

This helps to create a contraction of the skin’s collagen fibres and tightens the skin in the treated parts of the body. As a result, patients of Vaser Liposuction have a reduced chance of skin dimpling or sagging after the body fat is removed.

For those who have thin skin or have experienced weight loss or multiple pregnancies, the use of the skin tightening method skin tightening may be of interest. This new FDA-approved treatment is used in conjunction with the Vaser Liposuction surgical procedure and helps to further tighten the skin through the plasma and radiofrequency energy.

To summarise, Vaser Liposuction is a less invasive body sculpting and fat removal procedure when compared to traditional liposuction methods. The results are far more superior and the side effects are reduced.

Brazilian Butt Lift vs. Butt Implants

If you’re wanting to increase the size of your derriere you’re likely to have researched your butt augmentation options.

The two main options you’ll come across are Brazilian Butt Lift or Butt Implants. When looking online, it’s not always clear which plastic or cosmetic surgery treatment is superior and the differences between them.

There are significant differences between a Brazilian Butt Lift and Butt Implant augmentation surgery, and the results that can be achieved.

The procedure

A Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedure involves making small incisions in targeted areas to remove excess fat through liposuction. This allows the cosmetic practitioner or plastic surgeon to sculpt and enhance the size and shape of the patient’s figure, achieving the highly desired hourglass look.

The liposuction is followed by the fat transfer procedure where the patient’s own fat is reinjected into areas of the buttock to add volume and give a lift. The Brazilian Butt Lift procedure is performed under deep sedation.

Read a step-by-step guide of the BBL procedure here.

In contrast, a buttock augmentation using silicone implants requires the artificial devices to be surgically placed into each butt cheek. These are durable, solid silicone implants with some flexibility. Incisions are typically made within the vertical butt crease with the implants sliding into or above the gluteal muscles.

Often this is used in conjunction with fat grafting to achieve maximum results and correct poor symmetry or shape concerns. Buttock implants may be the preferred option for people who have a very little amount of fat to remove. The buttock implant plastic surgery procedure is typically performed under general anaesthesia.

The results

By using the patient’s own fat, the BBL results can be incredibly natural. Body contouring is an added bonus of performing liposuction during the buttock augmentation surgery. By removing enough fat, patients can achieve curves in all the right places and enhance the size and shape of the buttocks.

Butt surgical procedures using implants also result in increased volume. Patients can typically choose between round or oval buttock implants which can give the illusion of shapely hips. The final results will depend on which implant shape and size the patient chooses.

The recovery

Brazilian Butt Lift surgery patients can expect a recovery of about 5-7 days. For 2 weeks after the procedure, patients will be required to avoid sitting on their bottom (you can sit forward on your thighs) or placing pressure on the area for prolonged periods. They’ll also be required to wear a compression garment and attend lymphatic drainage massage appointments for the first week after surgery.

Buttock augmentation patients can typically return to quiet, low-intensity work and activities within a few days of the procedure. They’ll also be required to wear a compression garment and to take great care of the incisions for the first month to avoid serious infection.

A patient of buttock implant surgery will be required to limit their activity and exercise for a period of approximately 8 weeks. The patient will also need to refrain from using stairs and walking long distances during their recovery as muscle contraction can increase the risk of complications. Full recovery from a butt implant augmentation may take several months and, when compared to BBL, the recovery time is difficult and relies highly on patient compliance.

The complications

Every cosmetic or plastic surgery comes with its own risks. To reduce complications, it’s important the patient is fully informed about the procedure from an experienced plastic or cosmetic practitioner and follow the post-operative procedures.

As the BBL procedure uses the patient’s own fat injections, patient’s will experience minimal fat cell loss (approximately 15-20%). This, however, is not enough to alter the results. You can read more about fat survival here. Complications such as fluid retention and adipose tissue degradation may be as a result of lifestyle or dietary choices and not adhering to the care instructions.

Besides the risk that comes with all surgeries, the major complications of butt implant surgical procedures are the displacement of the implants which can alter the appearance and cause mobility issues, and painful infection. Scar tissue, incision disruption and scar widening are also complications that can occur during the recovery period, particularly within the first 3 weeks.

At Cosmos Clinic, we believe the BBL procedure that uses liposuction and fat grafting technology to be the superior method of butt augmentation. To find out whether you’re a good candidate for a BBL, contact our team on 1300-138-797 or emailing here.

What Liposuction Can and Can’t Achieve

Liposuction is one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures to remove excess fat that is unresponsive to a healthy diet and regular exercise. The cosmetic procedure can be quite transformative with patients loving their newly defined shape and smaller waistlines. But as with any cosmetic or plastic surgery treatment, it is important to understand the limitations of the procedure.

Liposuction isn’t going to necessarily solve your weight loss woes or banish your cellulite. It isn’t going to make you a healthy eater overnight or give you a flawless body. Understanding what Liposuction can achieve and its limitations can help you set realistic expectations before your Liposuction procedure.

Liposuction can remove stubborn fat cells

Liposuction is arguably the most effective cosmetic surgery procedure to remove stubborn fat deposits from targeted areas of your body. It’s also one of the more gentle surgical procedures performed by a cosmetic practitioner or plastic surgeon under conscious sedation.

Vaser Liposuction uses an ultrasound cannula that is inserted into the fat layer under the skin through a small incision to melt and then remove unwanted fat cells. Some of the most common targeted areas of the body for liposuction treatment is tummy, buttocks, upper arms, thighs, breasts and love handles. For patients who want a large amount of fat removed, they may be a good candidate for Mega Liposuction which can remove up to 15 litres of fat.

Liposuction can help contour your shape

Liposuction surgery is a great option for those want to contour their shape by removing areas of body fat. This can help correct disproportion, emphasis curves or target areas you are genetically pre-dispositioned to have more fat cells.

Recent before & after of a patient choosing Liposuction for body contouring

And good results of the Liposuction procedure don’t require you to have a large amount of excess fat. For those who are relatively lean, but what definition in areas of the body such as their abs, Vaser High Def Liposuction is an effective way to sculpt the body to create an athletic appearance. Used in conjunction with another procedure, Liposuction can also help to increase the size and shape of areas of the body, such as in the case of the Brazilian Butt Lift procedure or Breast Fat Transfer.

Liposuction can be used on the face

Being a gentle cosmetic surgery procedure that is highly targeted, Liposuction can be used on the face to remove excess fat and define your facial features. These are often areas of fat that won’t budge and can’t be targeted with exercise alone.

Specific areas of the face cosmetic practitioners use Liposuction include the cheeks, jaws and neckline to enhance the patient’s natural bone structure and appearance.

Liposuction can help with skin tightening

Vaser Liposuction stimulates the production of collagen – the hard, insoluble and fibrous protein found throughout the body. Collagen is vital for skin integrity and plays a role in restoring and replacing dead skin cells. Unfortunately, the natural aging process causes collagen to deplete over time, particularly for women after menopause. By stimulating collagen, Liposuction, together with the wearing of compression garments, can help restore the skin’s youthful integrity.

Recent before & after of Liposuction with Skin Tightening technology
Recent before & after of Liposuction with Skin Tightening technology

By using that lastest skin tightening technology in conjunction with Vaser Liposuction, cosmetic practitioners can now gently and precisely heat soft tissue to tighten the skin. This enhances the fat removal and body contouring results, especially those with loose or thin skin.

Liposuction can increase your body confidence

A clear benefit of Liposuction is its potential effects on self-confidence and body image. For many who have adhered to a healthy diet and consistently trained at the gym without seeing the results, Liposuction can help them obtain the body they’ve worked hard for.

It’s also a procedure that can be highly beneficial for those who have genetic susceptibilities to disproportionate weight can such as in the case of men with “man boobs” or people suffering from the debilitating condition Lymphoedema.

There is no guarantee that Liposuction will improve your confidence, however, it may have a great impact on your self-esteem and make you feel more comfortable in your own skin.

Liposuction can’t remove excess skin

Liposuction isn’t a cosmetic procedure that can remove excess skin as a result of drastic weight loss or pregnancy. However, as mentioned above, it can improve skin elasticity.

Recent before & after of a patient choosing Liposuction over Tummy Tuck

Depending on the amount of excess skin you want to be removed, you may be a good candidate for Liposuction and a Tummy Tuck procedure to gain the results you desire.

Liposuction can’t fix cellulite or stretch marks

Liposuction may improve the appearance of cellulite or stretch marks, but it can’t fix or remove them altogether. Liposuction together with Bio Stimulating Injections using your own fat cells can help even the skin tone by filling in dips and dimples.

Stretch marks are difficult to treat as we don’t know their exact cause. The best way to treat stretch marks is with a multi-modal approach that’s right for you. You can achieve up to 80% improvement with the use of Vaser Skin Tightening or laser treatments such as Fractional Laser. There are also non-surgical options that result in modest improvements such as Dermapen (micro-needling) with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) or the more invasive approach of a Tummy Tuck to remove the skin.

Liposuction can’t treat generalised obesity

Liposuction is not a weight loss surgery, rather it is an effective cosmetic procedure to remove the remaining fat deposits or contour your body shape. It’s a great option for those who have reached their ideal body weight and are in good health by maintaining a whole food diet and exercising regularly.

While Liposuction is a permanent fat removal solution, it doesn’t prevent future weight gain. If you gain weight post-liposuction, you most likely will retain your shape, but increase in size. It’s worth noting, for patients who are overweight or obese, Mega Liposuction allows them to have large amounts of fat removed. This treatment not only helps to remove excess fat but it may also help the patient kick-start a healthy lifestyle, an exercise program, a healthy diet to maintain their new shape.

If you’re considering Liposuction and wondering whether you are a good candidate, get in touch with our team at Cosmos Clinic. They will discuss your options and expectations of the cosmetic surgery treatment to ascertain whether it’s right for you. Call Cosmos Clinic on 1300-138-797 or email us at [email protected].

Tips to Maintain Your Shape After Cosmetic Surgery

You’ve invested your time and money in cosmetic surgery to sculpt your desired figure. Now you need to invest in self-care to maintain the results.

It’s easy to assume that since you’ve had Liposuction, a Tummy Tuck or another body contouring procedure that the results will remain forever, even if you return to the same lifestyle habits. Unfortunately, that is not necessarily the case.

Cosmetic and plastic surgery treatments designed to remove excess fat or contour the body such as Liposuction, Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), Abdominoplasty are an effective way to gain that new shape and manage weight gain. Most patients also report a boost in confidence and body image after undergoing these surgical procedures, essentially having a new lease on life.

However, to maintain this new shape you’ve come to love and overall good health, some healthy lifestyle changes should be adopted. A small investment in self-care will prove valuable in the long run.

9 tips to maintain your shape after cosmetic surgery

1. Take your recovery seriously

Trust us when we say, your cosmetic or plastic surgeon knows what’s required during your recovery time to ensure optimal results. Follow the post-operative instructions including the wearing of compression garments and attending the lymphatic drainage massage appointments. And make sure you’ve been given the tick of approval before you resume your normal activities, especially for those who’ve undergone invasive or extensive surgery.

Not only will this help maintain your results, but post-operative care can also help reduce side effects such as blood clots and speed up the healing process.

2. Get someone in your corner

Whether you’ve had cosmetic surgery, aiming for weight loss or simply want to live a healthier lifestyle, changing old habits can be challenging.

Finding someone who can hold you accountable can help in maintaining the results of your cosmetic procedures and your ideal weight.

3. Watch your macronutrient balance

A healthy diet should be at the core of maintaining your new shape, a healthy weight and overall health. Rather than adopting a yo-yo dieting mentality, start with making some basic changes.

Take a look at the macronutrients (carbohydrates, protein and fat) balance of your plate. Reducing your carbohydrates and ensuring you have adequate protein and quality fat in each meal can help to avoid weight gain and maintain weight loss.

4. Ditch the refined sugar

Refined sugar is simply empty calories that if not used as fuel ends up accumulating as excess fat cells. That’s the last thing you want if you’ve just had a mommy makeover or fat removal via Liposuction.

Take note of the refined sugar in your diet including in your snacks, meals and beverages. Stick with a limited intake of natural sources such as fruit or sweeteners like raw honey or maple syrup.

5. Maintain healthy portion sizes

Overeating is one of the main causes of weight gain so addressing your portion sizes can be an easy step to maintain your results and your ideal weight.

The easiest way to take stock of your portion size is by using your hand as a guide. For women, a serving of protein should 1 palm, vegetables 1 fist, complex carbohydrates 1 cupped hand and fat 1 tumb. For men, these portions are doubled.

6. Adopt a regular training regime

Consistency matters when you’re trying to maintain your cosmetic surgery results or lose some weight. In fact, exercising regularly can enhance the results of body contouring procedures such as Liposuction and BBL.

If you’re not used to training, start slowly. This may be 30-minutes of light exercising, to begin with. For those who are regular gym-goers, moderate to intense workouts after your recovery period might be more suitable. While exercising 6 days a week alternating muscle groups won’t hurt if you really want results, you need to ensure your body has enough time to rest and recover.

7. Lift some weights

Strength and resistance training is a great way to maintain skin and muscle tone after your cosmetic surgery procedure. Aim for two or more days of strength training a week with a program that targets all major muscle groups.

8. Monitor your stress levels

Stress increases your cortisol levels which are associated with excess body weight and belly fat. When you’re stressed, your body enters ‘fight or flight’ mode holding onto body fat as part of its survival mechanism.

Not only that, the high cortisol levels stimulate your hunger particular for refined and high sugar foods for instant fuel and gratification. It’s very difficult to maintain a healthy weight or lose excess weight if you’re living in a stressed state.

9. Hydrate!

Drinking plenty of water after your cosmetic surgery procedure is essential for your results and for your overall health. Making sure you’re hydrated can help with the healing process and should be an important part of your skincare regime.

Aim to drink 2L of water per day; more if you’re exercising regularly and at a high intensity.

Just like cosmetic or plastic surgery, taking care of your health is an investment. Don’t spend your hard-earned cash to find out that poor dietary or exercise habits are impairing your results.

What Are My Skin Tightening Options?

Do you have thin or loose skin or an unwanted overhang of skin around your tummy? Are you wanting to improve your skin’s tone and laxity without a painful recovery and lengthy downtime?

Thankfully, there are skin tightening treatments that can improve the quality of your skin and stimulate collagen production without invasive skin removal surgeries.

At Cosmos Clinic, we offer two skin tightening options: Vaser or skin tightening/J-Plasma. Both these skin tightening procedures help in rejuvenation of the skin’s surface and addressing some of the more common problem areas. Here, we take a look at the two skin tightening treatments.

The Vaser machine stimulates collagen production and skin tightening through the use of ultrasound. The ultrasound energy generates heat which is distributed into the targeted area under the skin through a probe. This causes a contraction of the collagen fibres and tightening of the skin in a more effective way than traditional liposuction.

Vaser is a gentler cosmetic surgery procedure than liposuction as it preserves the fibrous tissue that connects the skin cells to the underlying muscle. This tissue contains collagen and elastin proteins which are responsible for the skin laxity and its ability to ‘snap’ back.

As a gentle cosmetic surgery treatment, side effects are minimal, the recovery time is reduced and patients experience less post-operative pain than some of the more invasive surgical options.

Skin tightening with skin tightening

skin tightening or J-Plasma is your second skin tightening treatment option and the latest to hit the cosmetic and plastic surgery market. This skincare procedure is used in conjunction with Vaser and is being talked about as the new “facelift”.

skin tightening uses heat and radiofrequency energy to produce a controlled burn under the deeper layers of the skin. This stimulates the production of new collagen and tightening of the skin.

The new FDA-approved device also helps to minimise any visible irregularities typically treated by a dermatologist or with laser treatments such as pigmentation, sun damage and aging.

What makes skin tightening so appealing is that the collagen production and skin tightening continues to improve for up to 6 months post-treatment.

As skin tightening can produce exceptional skin tightening results, it is a great option for those who don’t want to undergo invasive cosmetic and plastic surgery procedures such as a tummy tuck or arm lift after significant weight loss or simply aging.

While the extent of the skin tightening will depend on the quality and elasticity of the skin, both Vaser and skin tightening can visibly improve the appearance of the skin’s surface without a lengthy or painful recovery.

Brazilian Butt Lift: How Big Should I Go?

One of the most important decisions you need to make when considering a Brazilian Butt lift (BBL) is how big you would like your buttock to be.

Cosmetic practitioners and plastic surgeons are, to a great extent, able to meet your brief when it comes to the size and shape of your BBL. Of course, they will offer guidance as to what would suit your figure and the proportions of your body so that you achieve a natural and aesthetically pleasing outcome.

“The way I see it, is we’re like fashion designers,” says Cosmos Clinic’s Dr Joseph Ajaka. “We carve out the body to fit the dress, whereas a fashion designer carves out a dress to fit out the body.”

Your Brazilian Butt Lift procedure brief

At Cosmos Clinic we receive a variety of requests from patients interested in cosmetic procedures like the BBL. From petite and perky to highly voluminous buttocks, we’ve heard it all before!

Some of the most common types of buttock lifts and sculpting include:

Small & Perky

Brazilian Butt Lift

Many women who are petitely shaped request a small and perky bum with minimal body contouring. This can be easily achieved by reinjecting a small amount of your purified fat cells back into the buttock cheeks and filling out the hip dips. One of the benefits of this size buttocks is that a limited amount of fat is required – great for those who are already reasonably slim.

The Beyoncé

Brazilian Butt Lift

The Beyoncé is another popular BBL surgery request resulting in a more voluminous, rounder butt with a great c-shaped curve. This can be achieved with a larger fat transfer and strategic contouring, especially around the hip area. Those with naturally wider hips and enough fat in other areas of the body are good candidates for this shape.

The Kim Kardashian

The Kardashian sisters were largely responsible for putting the Brazilian Butt Lift surgery on the map thanks to their generously sized and shapely derrieres. To create more volume and the degree of projection, a lot of the focus is on fat injections to the upper and middle butt areas. As with the Beyoncé look, the proportions and ratio of the waist to butt are key.

“Generally speaking, we can accommodate to your needs and the photos you show us”, says Dr Joseph Ajaka.

How big you go can depend on a number of factors

While your cosmetic practitioner will attempt to design the buttocks of your dreams, how big you go can depend on a number of factors, including:

1. How much fat can be harvest

As the Brazilian Butt Lift procedure uses your own fat rather than butt implants to increase the size of your buttock, you’ll need enough fat from other areas of the body. Fat can be extracted from areas such as the tummy, love handles, back, inner thighs, arms and breasts. Removing the excess fat through liposuction can also result in improved body contouring.

On average, to achieve a more voluminous buttock, the cosmetic practitioner will inject 1,000 – 1,200 mls of purified fat into each cheek. For those wanting a larger, Kim Kardashian-style buttocks, up to 1.8L of fat may be transferred into the targeted areas.

2. The elasticity of your skin

The amount of fat injected into the buttocks may also depend on how elastic your skin is. Pumping too much fat into the buttock cheeks causing the skin to be extremely tight can increase the pressure on the grafted fat cells. This can impact their survival long term and therefore, your end results. This is mainly relevant for those looking to increase their buttocks size substantially.
