Here at Cosmos Aesthetics, we utilise Vaser technology for all of our liposuction procedures. Vaser (“Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance”) is the latest advancement in liposuction and uses ultrasonic energy to break apart fat cells before they are removed from the body.

Vaser offers a far gentler approach when compared to other liposuction techniques. In the past, male liposuction was far less refined, with many doctors comparing the process to trying to suck a brick of fat out through a straw. As a result, patients could expect more pain and prolonged recovery times. On the other hand, Vaser uses ultrasound waves to separate fat cells from the fibrous tissue, turning it to a more butter-like consistency. This makes the fat far easier to remove, which is particularly beneficial for men who usually have more fibrous fat. The heat delivered by the Vaser machine also works to contract the skin, which reduces the amount of lax skin after the procedure.

Liposuction for men is usually performed under local anaesthesia and twilight sedation, although you can request a general anaesthetic if preferred. Once numb, your Cosmos Aesthetics doctor will make small incisions in the treated area, through which the Vaser probe is inserted. The probe is moved back and forth to liquefy the fat cells and, as the tissue is broken apart, your doctor will use a cannula to vacuum the fat out of the body.

Recovering from your male liposuction procedure

Vaser liposuction for men is a minimally invasive procedure, with most patients returning home on the same day. While some mild pain and discomfort are typical, your doctor will prescribe medications to relieve this. Many men also experience some fluid seepage from their incisions for 3-5 days after the procedure. Despite this, overall recovery is rather easy, and most patients can go back to work after one week.

To improve healing times, reduce post-operative swelling and help the skin retract, patients will need to wear a compression garment, usually for three weeks full time and three weeks part-time. We also recommend that our patients return to the clinic for regular follow up lymphatic massages, typically twice a week for two weeks.

How much does liposuction for men cost?

If you are considering male liposuction, you probably want to know how much the procedure will cost you. However, Vaser liposuction does not fit a one price fits all strategy, and costs vary from patient to patient. The cost of your male liposuction procedure will depend on factors such as:

How do I prepare for my procedure?

During your consultation, your doctor will give you specific pre-operative instructions. To avoid surgical complications and ensure a speedy recovery, you must quit smoking at least two weeks before surgery, and your doctor may ask you to avoid certain medications and supplements. We also recommend that you prepare for recovery by purchasing comfortable clothes, preparing some healthy meals and filling any required prescriptions. You will also need to arrange for somebody to pick you up from the hospital and help around the house for the first few days after the procedure.

Is Vaser liposuction painful?

You should not feel any pain during your Vaser liposuction procedure, as you will be under twilight sedation and local anaesthesia. If you do experience any discomfort during recovery, you can alleviate this with medications prescribed by your doctor.

When will I see the results of my Vaser liposuction procedure?

Most men notice a subtle improvement in their body contour immediately after surgery. However, you will need to allow time for post-operative swelling to subside and the skin to retract and tighten before your final results become visible. Your Vaser liposuction results will gradually improve over time, with your final results appearing at around six months.

Are the results of my liposuction procedure permanent?

Once your doctor has removed the fat cells from your body, they are permanently gone. However, you can still gain weight after male liposuction, as the remaining fat cells can grow in size. In order to maintain results in the long term, we recommend that our patients make healthy lifestyle changes following surgery, such as exercising more regularly and enjoying a more balanced diet.

How long does the procedure take to perform?

Your male liposuction procedure can take anywhere from one to four hours to complete, depending on the number of areas treated and the amount of fat removed.

How many liposuction procedures will I need?

At Cosmos Aesthetics, our doctors always endeavour to achieve the best fat reduction results in a single liposuction procedure. However, men who wish to remove large amounts of fat may need a second procedure to achieve their desired results. Your doctor will give his suggestions on whether you may need a second procedure during your consultation.

How much fat can you remove from my body?

Depending on your distribution of fat and your desired surgical outcome, your doctor will remove between three and five litres of fat. Removing any more than this can put your safety and comfort at risk. In fact, one study found that removing more than five litres of fat can increase complication rates by 3.7 percent. As such, men who wish to remove more than five litres of fat will need to undergo a second liposuction procedure.

How noticeable are liposuction scars?

Liposuction for men, as with any invasive procedure, will leave behind a scar. Despite this, significant scarring following male liposuction is rare, as the incisions required to insert the Vaser probes are only small and will be placed in inconspicuous locations. Plus, with proper scar management techniques, you can expect your scars to fade entirely eventually.
