    THE PROCEDURE

Targeted fat removal with Vaser liposuction

Vaser Liposuction for Men at Cosmos Clinic

At Cosmos Clinic, we exclusively use Vaser technology for all liposuction procedures. Vaser, short for “Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance,” is an advanced liposuction method that uses ultrasound energy to prepare fat cells for removal, offering a refined alternative to traditional techniques.

Unlike traditional, more “aggressive” methods, Vaser Liposuction uses ultrasound waves to soften and loosen fat cells, making them easier to remove. This technique is particularly effective for men, as male fat deposits are often more fibrous and challenging to address. Additionally, the heat from the Vaser probe may assist with skin retraction, helping to minimise the risk of lax skin after the procedure.

    How the Procedure Works

Vaser Liposuction for men is performed under local anaesthesia with twilight sedation, though general anaesthesia can be arranged if preferred. Once the area is numbed, the doctor makes small incisions to insert the Vaser probe. The probe emits ultrasound waves to break apart the fat cells. After this, a cannula is used to suction the liquefied fat out of the body.

    Treatment Areas

    • Abdomen: Addresses fat in the midsection.
    • Chest: Aims to reduce excess fat in the chest area.
    • Sides: Targets fat deposits around the waist.
    • Back: Treats dense, fibrous fat in the upper and lower back.
    • Neck and Jawline: Focuses on fat under the chin and around the jaw.

    Vaser Hi Definition for Men

For those seeking more defined results, Vaser Hi Definition Liposuction may be an option. This advanced technique involves refining fat layers to enhance the appearance of muscle groups, such as the abdomen, chest, and arms. It may be suitable for candidates who have good skin elasticity and visible muscle tone prior to the procedure.

    Cost of Vaser Liposuction

The cost of Vaser Liposuction at Cosmos Clinic depends on several factors, including the areas treated, the amount of fat being removed, and the complexity of the surgery.

    Your personalised quote will include:

    • The procedure itself.
    • Anaesthesia (local or general).
    • Post-operative care, including follow-up appointments.

During your consultation, the doctor will assess your needs, discuss the treatment plan, and provide a detailed breakdown of the costs. At Cosmos Clinic, we are committed to ensuring a transparent and customised approach to pricing.

    POST SURGERY

    Recovery & Potential Risks

Vaser Liposuction is a same-day surgical procedure, meaning most men can return home shortly after the procedure. While mild discomfort, swelling, and fluid leakage from incision sites are normal during the initial recovery phase, these effects are temporary. Medications will be provided to manage any pain or discomfort, and most patients can resume light daily activities, including work, within one week.

To optimise healing and achieve the best outcomes, the following recovery measures are recommended:

    • Compression Garments: These must be worn for six weeks—three weeks full-time and three weeks part-time—to help reduce swelling and support skin contraction.
    • Lymphatic Massages: Regular follow-up massages are advised, typically twice a week for two weeks, to promote recovery and reduce swelling.
    • Rest and Nutrition: Ensure adequate rest, maintain a healthy diet, and listen to your body as it recovers.

    Recovery Tips

    • Wear your compression garments as instructed.
    • Stay hydrated and maintain a balanced diet.
    • Avoid strenuous activities until cleared by your doctor.
    • Care for your incision sites as directed.
    • Attend all follow-up appointments to monitor progress.

    Potential Risks and Side Effects

As with any surgical procedure, Vaser Liposuction carries risks and potential complications. While generally well-tolerated, it’s important to be aware of the following possibilities:

    • Swelling
    • Bruising
    • Pain or discomfort
    • Temporary fluid leakage from incision sites
    • Irregularities in texture (e.g., dimpling, unevenness)
    • Scarring at incision sites
    • Infection
    • Seroma (fluid accumulation under the skin)
    • Haematoma (blood pooling under the skin)
    • Nerve changes, including numbness or altered sensation
    • Blood clots
    • Skin burns or blistering
    • Skin colour changes (e.g., hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation)
    • Persistent pain or tenderness
    • Fat necrosis (dead fat cells forming lumps)
    • Organ perforation (extremely rare)
    • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or pulmonary embolism (rare but serious)
    • Fat embolism (rare but life-threatening)

Your doctor will discuss these risks in detail during consultations to ensure you make an informed decision about the procedure. Additionally, you’ll receive detailed aftercare instructions to minimise complications and promote a smooth recovery.

Am I a suitable candidate for Vaser liposuction?

If you fit the following criteria, you may be a potential candidate for male liposuction:

    • You have excess pockets of fat, despite exercise and diet efforts
    • You have realistic expectations regarding what liposuction can achieve
    • You are in good physical and mental health
    • You have good skin elasticity
    • You are willing to follow healthy diet and exercise habits after surgery to maintain results
    • You are a non-smoker or are prepared to quit in the weeks before and after surgery

The above criteria is just a guide. The best way to determine whether you are suitable for male liposuction is to meet with our Cosmos Clinic doctors for a consultation.

How do I prepare for my procedure?

During your consultation, your doctor will give you specific pre-operative instructions. To avoid surgical complications and ensure a speedy recovery, you must quit smoking at least two weeks before surgery, and your doctor may ask you to avoid certain medications and supplements. We also recommend that you prepare for recovery by purchasing comfortable clothes, preparing some healthy meals and filling any required prescriptions. You will also need to arrange for somebody to pick you up from the hospital and help around the house for the first few days after the procedure.

    Is Vaser liposuction painful?

You should not feel any pain during your Vaser liposuction procedure, as you will be under twilight sedation and local anaesthesia. If you do experience any discomfort during recovery, you can alleviate this with medications prescribed by your doctor.

Are the results of my liposuction procedure permanent?

Once your doctor has removed the fat cells from your body, they are permanently gone. However, you can still gain weight after male liposuction, as the remaining fat cells can grow in size. In order to maintain results in the long term, we recommend that our patients make healthy lifestyle changes following surgery, such as exercising more regularly and enjoying a more balanced diet.

How long does the procedure take to perform?

Your male liposuction procedure can take anywhere from one to four hours to complete, depending on the number of areas treated and the amount of fat removed.

How many liposuction procedures will I need?

At Cosmos Clinic, our doctors aim for a single liposuction procedure. However, men who wish to remove large amounts of fat may need a second procedure. Your doctor will give his suggestions on whether you may need a second procedure during your consultation.

    How noticeable are liposuction scars?

Liposuction for men, as with any invasive procedure, will leave behind a scar. Despite this, significant scarring following male liposuction is rare.
