At Cosmos Aesthetics, all of our liposuction procedures are performed using Vaser technology. Vaser (“Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance”) is a more advanced form of liposuction that uses ultrasound energy to break apart fat cells before they are removed from the body. This results in a far more gentle approach to liposuction.

Traditional liposuction techniques differ from Vaser liposuction, which uses ultrasound technology. Each method has its own characteristics and recovery profiles. Vaser, on the other hand, uses ultrasonic waves to separate fat cells from the fibrous tissue, turning it to a more butter-like consistency and making it easier to remove. The ultrasound heat used in Vaser liposuction may have some effect on skin appearance. However, the extent of any skin tightening effect varies and should be discussed with a healthcare professional.

Liposuction to the love handles is performed under local anaesthesia and twilight sedation, although a general anaesthetic is available on request. Once numb, your Cosmos Aesthetics doctor will make small incisions in the underwear line to insert the Vaser probe. This probe is moved back and forth to heat and liquefy your fat cells, after which a cannula is used to remove the fat from the body.

Your Love Handles Liposuction Recovery

As a minimally invasive procedure, many patients may be able to return home on the same day as their surgery, depending on individual circumstances. While some mild pain and discomfort are to be expected, your doctor will prescribe medications to relieve this. Also, keep in mind that you may experience some fluid seepage from your liposuction sites for 3-5 days after surgery. Ultimately, recovery is relatively easy, and you should be able to return to work after one week.

To reduce swelling, ease healing and help the skin retract, you will need to wear a compression garment for five to six weeks after surgery. We also recommend that our patients visit the clinic for regular follow up lymphatic massages, usually twice a week for two weeks.

To prepare for recovery, we often advise that patients purchase some comfortable clothing, fill any needed prescriptions and prepare some healthy meals. You should also arrange for someone to pick you up from the hospital and help with tasks at home in the days after surgery.

Is love handles liposuction painful?

Your love handles liposuction procedure will be performed under local anaesthesia and twilight sedation, so you should not experience any pain. While discomfort during recovery is more common, you can alleviate this with medications prescribed by your doctor.
