Breast fat transfer uses your own fat rather than silicone or saline implants. Also referred to as fat grafting or autologous breast augmentation mammoplasty, this procedure involves transferring fat from one area of your body to another via a combination of liposuction and injections. This procedure is intended to change the breast volume, using a different approach to implants.
If you are considering a fat transfer breast augmentation mammoplasty at Cosmos Aesthetics Canberra, the next step is a consultation with one of our skilled doctors. Together, you will discuss your goals and expectations, and design a treatment plan tailored to your unique needs.

THE PROCEDURE
Fat grafting involves taking fatty tissue from one part of your body and redistributing it to another. Excess fat is removed from areas where it is unwanted, such as the abdomen or hips, using liposuction. Once it has been collected, it is processed in a centrifuge to prepare it for reinjection. The purified fat is then applied to the breasts.
The doctors at Cosmos Aesthetics are advanced users of Vaser liposuction technology. This method of liposuction utilises high-energy ultrasound to break down fat and facilitate the removal process. This allows for more even removal of fat than with traditional liposuction while potentially shortening downtime.
Vaser liposuction is designed to aid in the removal process and may impact collagen production, with varied results.
Twilight sedation is commonly used in this procedure, with an option for general anaesthesia based on individual circumstances. The volume change can vary among individuals. If you would like more volume, the breast fat transfer procedure can be repeated in three to six months.
How much will my breast fat transfer procedure cost in Canberra?
As a general guide, fat transfer breast augmentation mammoplasty patients can expect their procedure to cost around $8,000 for liposuction performed on one area and fat transfer to the breast. A consultation at Cosmos Aesthetics ranges from $120 – $330.
The cost of your procedure can be broken down into three primary components:

POST-TREATMENT
Most patients can return home after their breast fat transfer procedure. Your Cosmos Aesthetics doctor will provide you with a detailed recovery plan. Please follow it closely to ensure that your recovery is healthy and comfortable. It is normal to experience some pain and swelling after your surgery. Discomfort can be managed with prescribed pain medication, and swelling will likely reduce within the weeks after your procedure.
You may be able to return to work or other gentle daily activities after approximately two to five days. However, you must avoid strenuous exercise and sports and heavy or overhead lifting for about a month.
Wearing appropriate garments is a critical component of breast fat transfer recovery. You will be instructed to wear a post-operative bra to help support your breasts and avoid underwire bras for about six weeks. Additionally, you will need to wear a compression garment over the liposuction areas. This garment will be worn for about three weeks full-time, followed by three weeks part-time.
Your breasts may look larger than you intended, but this is an expected part of the breast fat transfer process. Your breasts should reduce in size slightly as only about 80% of the transferred fat cells will survive. Your doctor will inject extra fat during the procedure to account for this.
