THE RESULTS
The double chin (medical name is submental fullness) is a common concern for women and men alike. It can result from being overweight or due to aging or genetics even in people who are thin. If you’d like to improve the appearance of your chin, neck and jawline without surgery and the accompanying recovery and downtime, a Neck Lift with Liposuction may be right for you.
The Procedure involves using VASER Liposuction to remove stubborn fat cells while simultaneously tightening the skin. Tightening (during and after treatment) is achieved thanks to a special ultrasound-emitting probe that helps to stimulate collagen fibres underneath the skin.
Neck Lift with Liposuction, Sydney is considered a minimally-invasive surgery. The treatment typically takes one hour and is performed while you’re conscious and under twilight sedation. Because patients are not placed under general anesthesia, there are fewer complications than with traditional liposuction or neck lift surgery.
The ideal candidate is someone is who is physically healthy with stubborn fat and mild skin laxity under the chin and around the jawline. Patients who are older or have considerable skin sagging and volume loss may require a face lift or neck lift surgery.
On the day of your procedure you’ll be given medication to help you relax and to control any pain and discomfort. A small incision will be made under the chin, followed by an ultrasound probe being inserted to break down the fat tissue. The liquefied fat cells will then be extracted and the chin and neck area contoured using a gentle liposuction technique.
You’ll be required to wear a compression garment immediately after surgery to minimise swelling, promote blood circulation, as well as to assist with the healing process. It’s normal to experience some swelling but the downtime is minimal and patients can typically return to work or regular activities after a few days (rigorous exercise should be avoided for a few weeks).
The effects of liposuction are considered permanent as the fat cells will not grow back. Keep in mind, however, that fluctuations in weight can affect the results. Patients are advised to follow a healthy lifestyle and keep their weight in the normal range after the procedure. Furthermore, our skin continues to age and over time so some of the skin laxity can come back in a couple of years.
Neck Lift with Liposuction focuses on non-invasive removal of excess fat with some tightening of mild to moderate skin laxity. A neck lift is cosmetic surgery with a longer recovery time and higher risk for complications. Unlike the former which is a non-surgical procedure which can be done under twilight sedation, a neck lift requires cutting and removing sagging skin and tightening the muscles around the neck and chin. This type of surgery has weeks of recovery and downtime.
Complications with neck liposuction tend to be relatively minor; however, any medical procedure has some risks associated with them. These include: swelling, bruising, infection and bleeding. Rare side-effects may include unsatisfactory results, contour irregularities or bumps.
