Gynecomastia is a hormone imbalance that causes enlarged breast tissue in boys, men and even newborn babies. Although breasts don't typically develop in men the same way as in women, all males are born with a small amount of breast tissue. Sometimes when a man’s body makes less testosterone than estrogen, the body can develop an excessive amount of breast gland tissue.

In most cases Gynecomastia isn’t harmful your health and can clear up on its own. Medical treatment may be necessary, however, if the Gynecomastia persists longer than one year, or if there is swelling, discharge, pain or tenderness in the breast area.
Why choose Cosmos in Sydney for Man Boobs surgery?
Vaser liposuction is considered the gold standard treatment for Gynecomastia. That’s because it’s safe, minimally-invasive and there’s minimal downtime. Vaser is performed under light sedation and patients usually go home the same day. There’s also less downtime, bruising and swelling. That’s because Vaser has shown to disrupt less of the connective and surrounding tissue than traditional liposuction methods.
Who is a good candidate for Man Boobs surgery?
Man Boobs surgery candidates include:
Men who are bothered by breasts or “man boobs” that are too large.
Men whose condition cannot be corrected through diet or exercise.
Men who are in good health and without any serious medical conditions.
Non-smokers and non-drug users
Men who are within 30% of their ideal body weight.
Men who have realistic expectations about the outcome.
Men whose breast development has stabilized.
How is the treatment performed?
Vaser liposuction involves making tiny incisions (usually in a location that is not highly visible, such as under an arm), then injecting a tumescent solution which contains a local anaesthetic. This is followed by inserting a thin ultrasound-emitting probe to break down the fat cells in the chest area first followed by their removal with liposuction. Ultrasound energy has an added benefit of stimulating the contraction of collagen fibers and the production of firmer, healthier skin.
What to expect after the procedure
It’s normal to experience some swelling, bruising and soreness after your Gynecomastia surgery. The recovery period is relatively quick, only 2-3 days. You’ll be required to wear a compressions garment for 3-6 weeks post-surgery to promote healing, skin retraction and reduce swelling/bruising. Lymphatic massage may be recommended for the next 2-4 weeks to assist with the healing process.
How much does the procedure cost?
Vaser Liposuction for Gynecomastia starts from $5,500
Initial consultation is between $150 – $220
What are the causes of Man Boobs?
These include but are not limited to the following:
Obesity or being overweight
Testicular or prostate cancer
Anabolic steroid drug use
Liver or kidney disease
What are the risks of Man Boobs surgery?
Gynecomastia surgery risks may include:
Allergic reactions to the local anaesthetic, topical preparations or other injected medications
Bleeding, blood clots, deep vein thrombosis or tissue necrosis
Breast asymmetry or breast contour/ shape irregularities
Changes (temporary or permanent) in nipple sensation
Infection, edema, poor wound healing and scarring
Need for revision surgery
How can I tell if my Man Boobs is caused by fat or breast tissue?
To know for sure, your doctor will need to examine you for a proper diagnosis. As a general rule, breast tissue has a firmer and denser consistency than fat. If the breast is particularly large, you may have both breast and fat tissue. In any case, Vaser liposuction can remove excess fat and gland, restoring a more masculine appearance to the area.
