PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) – Sydney, Canberra, Adelaide & Gold Coast
Use your own plasma to improve the texture of your skin
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a great, natural treatment for improving skin texture and elasticity, particularly under the eyes. It uses your own plasma as a seed to stimulate further production of collagen and naturally improve the look of your skin. Areas of skin that are treated with PRP feel firmer, appear tauter and regain that youthful glow. It has also been useful in the treatment of acne scarring, skin tightening and hair loss.
Quick facts about PRP

What is PRP?
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is blood plasma that contains a high concentration of your platelets. Platelets contain growth factors and are a specialised cell involved in injury healing and cell regeneration. A normal concentration of platelets in your blood is 200,000 per micro litre, whereas the platelet count in PRP has 1.6 to 8 times the level in your blood.
This concentrated plasma is enriched with your own platelets, growth factors and natural stem cells.
PRP is often combined with skin needling for optimal results. Skin needling induces mechanical injury to the collagen using fine needles to induce new collagen formation.
How does the PRP treatment work?
The PRP treatment is a simple, safe procedure where blood is taken (just like a blood test), and then spun in a centrifuge machine. This allows the blood to separate and the platelet rich plasma to be extracted. Platelets help to repair and rejuvenate by delivering growth factor proteins to areas where they are needed. This platelet rich plasma is then re-injected into the areas to be treated. You will experience a mild discomfort when the PRP is injected under the skin.
Why is PRP good at improving your skin texture, acne scarring and loose skin?
Plasma is rich in platelets, stem cells and growth factors; this is what stimulates your skin to produce more collagen. The stimulation of collagen helps to improve skin texture and acne scarring while at the same time tighten the skin. We recommend 3 treatments one month apart to achieve good results. In a few weeks the skin texture and acne scarring is improved, with long-lasting results.
What forms of PRP do we offer at Cosmos Clinic?
Regen PRP offers 1.6 times the level of platelets found in your blood, while harvest PRP offers 8 times the level of platelets found in your blood. We will use regen PRP for mild-moderate scarring and general skin texture improvements. We use harvest PRP for severe scarring, stretch marks and cellulite improvements.
What can I expect during the treatment?
The PRP is injected with a fine needle into the dermis (the second layer of skin). The area treated will usually swell, lasting between a few hours to 2 days, and you may experience bruising. You will start to notice a change in your skin a few weeks after the treatment. Since Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is autologous (i.e. from the self) and uses only your own plasma there is no chance of rejection or adverse reactions.
Will I still need Anti-Wrinkle Injections, fillers and laser?
PRP works extremely well in conjunction with injectables and laser treatments. They all work to keep skin looking refreshed and youthful. It is preferable to complete the treatments on separate occasions.
What areas can be treated?
PRP can be used on any area where improvement in texture is desired. Almost everyone can benefit from having a treatment under the eyes. Other popular areas are décolletage, neck, hands and for full-facial rejuvenation. PRP is used for stretch marks, acne scarring, skin tightening, fat transfers and other areas of medicine; such as tendon injuries, burns and ulcers. The treatment has garnered media attention since becoming a popular mainstream choice for skin rejuvenation.
