Top iGuide Neck Lift Questions

What is an iGuide Neck Lift?

The iGuide Neck Lift is a technologically advanced, minimally invasive method to the conventional necklift surgery; and it is the next big thing for neck lifts.

Traditionally, neck lifts required a plastic surgeon to cut into muscles and tissue and reposition them to achieve an aesthetically pleasing neck and jawline contour.

At Cosmos Clinic, cutting into these structures is now a thing of the past as only small punctures are made into areas of the jawline and below the chin. This translates into minimal bruising and quicker recovery time for the patient.

Unlike the conventional neck lift, during this surgical procedure, the natural anatomic structures of the neck are left intact and are used to lift and accentuate the neck. The iGuide Neck Lift can be used as a stand-alone cosmetic surgery procedure or as an add-on to other procedures such as the Laser Facel Lift and Vaser Neck Liposuction.

Developed by USA board certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Gregory Mueller, the iGuide has been FDA cleared for general use since 2007 and has recently been introduced in Australasia. The doctors at Cosmos Clinic received first hand training in the iGuide procedure from Dr. Gregory Mueller in Los Angeles in 2012.

The Procedure. What does it involve?

A numbing solution is infiltrated under the skin through these small punctures to create a surgical field. Excess fat is removed at this point if necessary.

A suture (thread) is weaved through this area in a series of passes, to form a “shoelace” like pattern. This weaving is aided by a tiny lit probe which ensure accurate placement throughout the entire procedure. The natural retaining ligaments of the neck are left intact and used to anchor the suture. When the suture is pulled taut, the patient’s own ligaments work with the suture to naturally elevate the skin, muscle and soft tissue of the neck (for a defined neck and jawline). The suture knot is then tied at the base of the neck under the skin.

This tightening effect elevates the neck skin, neck muscle and soft tissue of the neck as a whole unit; giving beautiful definition to the neck and jawline contours.

How does the iGuide differ to a traditional Neck Lift?

Traditionally, neck lifts required cutting of the skin and muscle to create a defined jawline. This meant a large risk of damage to internal structures in the delicate area around the neck as well as visible scaring. The iGuide has neither of these potential complications.

What are the benefits of iGuide Neck Lift?

Advantages of the iGuide procedure include:

  • Effective: Although not as intrusive as the traditional neck lift, the iGuide procedure provides visible and real results
  • Gentle: The procedure is gentle with only tiny punctures and no cutting of the skin. This results in minimal bruising and scarring
  • Safe: No general anaesthetic is required unlike a traditional neck lift
  • Immediate: Results are immediate and patients will notice natural results of a defined neck and jaw line
  • Recovery: Downtime is minimal with most patients back to work within 2-4 days

The iGuide Neck Lift can also be perfromed in conjunction with other procedures such as the Laser Face Lift and Vaser Neck Liposuction.

What can I expect after the procedure?

After the iGuide Neck Lift, patients will be fitted with a compression garment for the neck which is to be worn for 3 days. Patients are advised to use cold compresses over the area for 24 hours and to preferably have a soft diet for the first week. Patients will be reviewed again during the follow-up at one week and six week’s time.

There is hardly any downtime, minimal pain and patients are back to their normal activities within 2 to 3 days.

Who is an ideal candidate for iGuide Neck Lift?

An iGuide Neck Lift is suitable for people who have thin or loose skin with pockets of fat and want to redefine their neck and jawline.

If you have little to no loose skin with pockets of fat, the Laser Neck Lift may be more appropriate.

As outcomes can vary, initial consultation with our cosmetic surgeons will determine if this procedure is suited to your needs and expectations.

Are there any risks of complications?

As with any procedure, there will be minimal bruising and scarring at the puncture sites, which will resolve within one to two weeks.

There may be visible tethering of the skin post-operatively for the first month. Patients may have the sensation of tightening while eating but this will improve in the first week following the procedure.

There are inherent risks and complications as there are with any surgery. You should be aware of the potential risks and discuss any concerns you may have with your doctor before your surgery is performed.

At which clinic can I undertake the procedure?

Your initial IGuide Neck Lift consultation and subsequent procedure can be undertaken at one of our cosmetic clinics in  Australia. This includes our practices in Sydney, Canberra, Adelaide and the Gold Coast.

We also treat many interstate and overseas patients each year at Cosmos Clinic.  Therefore, we have set procedures in place for those travelling to our clinics for treatment.

For travelling patients please use the contact form located at the bottom of this page to send us images of the areas you wish to have treated, which Cosmos Clinic you’d like treatment at, and where you’re located in the description so our staff can include all the appropriate information for travelling patients as part of your personalised quote.
