Chin Enhancement

Expert Treatment

A Chin Enhancement (as known as a chin augmentation) is cosmetic procedure that utilises injectables (mainly dermal fillers) to improve the appearance of one’s chin. This dermal filler treatment is used to shape the chin and define the lower part of the face. It is a non-invasive alternative to a surgical chin implant with silicone.

Ideal candidates are people with small, protracted, weak chins. Dermal Fillers and/or Muscle Relaxant Injections are used.

Post Procedure

There is minimal discomfort and bruising. Some swelling can result for 2-3 days when Dermal Fillers are used.

Chin Enhancement Treatment Options

At Cosmos Clinic, we use  Dermal fillers and Muscle Relaxant Injections the enhance the chin.

Dermal fillers are most commonly used to shape the chin during a non-surgical chin augmentation. They are injected into the lower face and give the appearance of a more prominent chin; particularly in people with a small or protracted chin. At Cosmos Clinic, we use the thickest form of Dermal Filler (made up of hyaluronic acid) to ensure the best lifting effect
Muscle Relaxant Injections (also referred to as anti-wrinkle injections) are used to soften the chin and improve the chin contouring. As we age, the chin muscle (the mentalis) becomes stronger and pulls the chin up, making the chin point forward rather than south. Injecting a muscle relaxant into the chin muscle restores the chin to its original position; improving the lower jaw and balancing all facial features.

What is Chin Enhancement?

A Chin Enhancement is the act of changing the contour of the chin by making it more prominent or by providing greater definition. It is common to use filler injections or Muscle Relaxant Injections to create the augmentation.

As we age, the chin pulls up and gives us an orange dimpling effect. The use of Dermal Fillers and Muscle Relaxant Injections can restore the chin to its original position; creating a stronger chin that is more triangular and youthful in appearance.

Who is a suitable candidate for Chin Enhancement and Contouring?

People with a small or protracted chin make good candidates for Dermal Fillers in the chin; and they are particularly common in Asian patients. Chin Enhancement helps to create a more triangular and youthful appearance to lower the face; but it can also mask a double chin. This can be combined with Jaw Line Contouring and Cheek Augmentation to recreate the youthful triangle of beauty that is seen in models.

Muscle Relaxant Injections and Dermal Fillers are also useful for patients with a chin that appears like an orange peel when they push their lower lip up and out. Again, this creates a more triangular and youthful appearance to the lower face.

The Procedure. What does it involve?

An ice pack or topical anaesthetic is applied to the area being treated. Injections are then used to deliver the muscle relaxant and/or Dermal Filler into the chin area.

Will I experience any pain?

There is only minimal discomfort during the procedure, and there is no need for local anaesthesia.

What can I expect after the procedure?

The risk of bruising is low. The swelling is virtually non-existent with the muscle relaxant. However, with the Dermal Fillers, the swelling can last 2 to 3 days.

Results. What and when can I expect them?

Results when using dermal fillers injections can be seen immediately. Results using muscle relaxant injections can be seen between 10 – 21 days.

Dermal Fillers injected into the chin are long lasting and can last up to 2 years. You do not need to run the risk of infection and scar tissue with chin implants.  Muscle Relaxant Injections will last 3 –  4 months in most cases, and can vary from patient to patient.

Are there any risks of complications?

Dermal Fillers and Muscle Relaxant Injections are very safe. The risk of swelling and bruising in this area is very low, and so too in the likelihood of an allergic reaction.

Why not use implants for Chin Enhancement?

Chin implants run the risk of infections, scar tissue and are difficult to reverse if you do not like the final result. Chin Dermal Fillers tend to be favoured over chin implants because of the reversibility and the very low risk of infection.

At which clinic can I undertake Chin Enhancement?

Your initial Chin Enhancement consultation and subsequent procedure can be undertaken at one of our cosmetic clinics located in different cities around Australia. They include Sydney, Canberra, Adelaide and the Gold Coast.
