    THE TREATMENT

Three effective treatments for under the eyes

Volume Enhancement Treatments placed strategically under the eyes can address a number of concerns in this area, such as:

    Hollows Under the Eyes

The loss of volume that occurs under the eyes can be corrected using Volume Enhancement Treatments. At Cosmos Aesthetics, we use high quality Volume Enhancement Treatments that are produced by a leading pharmaceutical company. These fillers are made up of hyaluronic acid and have built-in local anaesthetic – ultimately allowing for a quick and more comfortable treatment. The Volume Enhancement Treatment is used to fill the hollow with approximately three injections required under each eye (near the under-eye bags). At Cosmos Aesthetics, we use a blunt needle to inject the Volume Enhancement Treatment – thereby greatly reducing the risk of bruising. Some swelling and bruising may occur and can last for approximately two to seven days. Improvements will usually be evident approximately one week after (when any swelling has subsided). The duration of results from this procedure can vary, typically ranging from 12 to 15 months, though individual experiences may differ.

    Dark Circles Under the Eyes

It is impossible to remove dark circles under the eyes fully; however, there are techniques available that can minimise their appearance. Volume Enhancement Treatments can assist with the look of dark circles by hydrating the eye area and stretching the skin. We help to increase the thickness and vitality of the under-eye skin, helping to reduce dark shadows and eye bags. Skincare rich in caffeine has also been shown to reduce the appearance of dark circles by improving skin tone, reducing puffy eyes, and minimising swelling.

    Improving Texture Under the Eyes

Cosmos Aesthetics offers great, natural treatments for improving skin texture and fine lines under the eyes and around the lower eyelid.

Why choose Cosmos Aesthetics for tear trough fillers

Volume Enhancement Treatments for under-eye treatments are an option available in many cosmetic clinics. As the under-eye area is extremely delicate, it is essential that you see an experienced injector. At Cosmos Aesthetics, all of our cosmetic injectors are medical professionals with vast experience and special training in tear trough fillers. We have even been appointed as an Allergan National Trainer (a prestigious title held by less than 20 doctors nationwide).

When searching for a cosmetic injector, be sure to look out for:

    • A reputable clinic with a good track record of results
    • An injector with several years of experience
    • Several before and after photos of actual patients

What to expect during an under-eye treatment

Remember that tear trough fillers are a prescribed medication, which means that they can only be administered by a qualified medical practitioner. As such, all patients must visit us for a consultation at Cosmos Aesthetics before any cosmetic injectable treatment. During this appointment, we will determine whether you are a suitable candidate for under-eye fillers.

Before your injections are administered, we will numb the eyes with cream and an ice pack to ensure your comfort during the procedure. One of our experienced doctors or registered nurses will then inject the filler under the eyes using either a needle or a cannula. While the fillers used at our clinic do contain a local anaesthetic, you may feel some slight pressure as the product is injected.  Once complete, your injector will apply pressure to the treatment area with gauze. You will see the results of your treatment immediately afterwards.

What to expect after an under-eye filler treatment

Unlike other treatments for the under eyes, filler is a relatively simple treatment that can be performed during your lunch break, after work or at the beginning of your weekend. As a walk-in, walk-out procedure, you can return to your daily activities immediately after treatment. Keep in mind that the under eyes are a sensitive area, and it is normal to experience some mild swelling for one to two days afterwards. In some cases, swelling and bruising can persist for up to a week.

If swelling or tenderness causes any discomfort, we suggest applying ice or a cool compress to the treatment area for ten minutes every hour. Make sure that you wrap the ice or compress in a small towel rather than applying it directly to the skin. Avoiding any strenuous exercise or excessive heat for a minimum of 24 hours can also help keep tenderness and swelling under control.

You should work to stay hydrated following an under-eye treatment and avoid smoking and alcohol for at least 24 hours. If you require any pain relief during your recovery, make sure to take paracetamol instead of aspirin or ibuprofen. Your cosmetic injector will provide more thorough aftercare instructions during your treatment.

How much do tear trough fillers cost

The cost of under-eye treatments varies based on factors including the amount and type of filler used. At Cosmos Aesthetics, we treat every patient as the individual they are, meaning that you will require a customised treatment plan designed to address your concerns and help you reach your cosmetic goals. Ultimately, the best way to determine how much tear trough fillers will cost is to book a consultation with one of our experienced cosmetic injectors.

    • Prices start from $350
    • Discounts are available for additional syringes
    • Initial consultation is between $120 – $150, redeemable upon treatment

Am I a candidate for under eye fillers?

If you are struggling with dark circles, hollows, or fine lines beneath the eyes, you are likely an excellent candidate for under eye fillers. Of course, there are a few exceptions to this. Patients with very thin skin, deep tear troughs or who have excess skin or fat bulging under the eyes may be unsuitable for this treatment. Although both men and women can benefit from tear trough fillers, you must be at least 18 years old to undergo this treatment.

What brands of Volume Enhancement Treatment do you use?

Unfortunately, advertising guidelines in Australia prohibit us from discussing which Volume Enhancement Treatment brands are used in our clinic. This is because tear trough filler is a prescription medicine that a doctor can only prescribe. As such, you must have a consultation at our clinic to examine whether Volume Enhancement Treatments under the eye are suitable for you. At Cosmos Aesthetics, we use high-quality Volume Enhancement Treatments from a range of well-trusted brands. If you are interested in learning more, we can talk freely about your options during a consultation.

How do I prepare for under eye treatment?

To prepare for your under-eye treatment, there are numerous things we recommend doing. Most importantly, you will need to avoid anything that may thin the blood for around a week before treatment. This includes alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, omega 3 and vitamin E. If you are prone to cold sores, we suggest speaking with your doctor about potentially taking prophylactic medication. Additionally, if you have had a recent COVID-19 vaccination, you will need to wait at least two weeks before scheduling an under-eye treatment.

Can I combine tear trough fillers with other treatments?

Yes! In fact, many under-eye filler patients choose to treat other areas of their face with Volume Enhancement Treatment as well, including the lips, cheeks, jawline, and chin. Some also opt to have Wrinkle Reduction Treatments for a more complete facial rejuvenation. As an anti-ageing strategy, Volume Enhancement Treatments can add volume and shape to the face, while Wrinkle Reduction Treatments are designed to minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. You can discuss whether additional cosmetic injectables may be suitable for you during your consultation.

    Do under-eye fillers hurt?

Here at Cosmos Aesthetics, we always numb the treatment area before administering Volume Enhancement Treatment. This keeps the treatment relatively comfortable. Although you may feel some slight pressure or a stinging sensation as the product is injected, whether you find this painful will depend on your individual tolerance for pain.

How long do tear trough fillers last?

Keep in mind that under-eye fillers are not permanent, as the body will eventually metabolise the product. When this happens will depend on numerous factors, such as the type of filler used and your skin type, lifestyle, and age. However, since the under eyes aren’t very mobile, you can expect the filler to last longer than in other areas, such as the lips. As a general rule, you can expect your under-eye treatment to last between 12 and 18 months.

What if I don’t like my results?

If you are unhappy with your tear trough filler results, you have a few options. If you feel that your under-eyes still look too hollow, your cosmetic injector can administer additional Volume Enhancement Treatment. On the other hand, if you do not like the way your results look at all, we can inject an enzyme beneath the eyes that completely dissolves the filler.

Where else can Volume Enhancement Treatment be injected?

Aside from treating dark circles and hollow under eyes, we use Volume Enhancement Treatments to soften and plump various other areas of the face, such as the:

    • Temples
    • Cheeks
    • Nasolabial folds
    • Marionette lines
    • Lips
    • Chin
    • Jowls
    • Jawline

Do under-eye fillers have any side effects?

Most patients tolerate under-eye filler very well, even after years of use. However, as with any other medical procedure, there are some temporary side effects to be aware of. These include redness, bruising and swelling, all of which usually resolve within a few hours or days.

In some cases, patients may develop some rare complications, such as lumps or infection. Thankfully, tear trough filler can be instantly dissolved using a special enzyme in cases where the treatment needs to be reversed to address complications.

Very rarely, your injector may inject the product into a blood vessel instead of beneath the skin. This can block blood flow and lead to skin death and, in severe cases, blindness. For this reason, we strongly advise that you see a highly experienced cosmetic injector who has the knowledge to prevent this complication.
