Thread Lift with Barbed Threads Sydney

With age, the skin gradually begins to lose its youthful appearance. As collagen and elastin production slows, signs of ageing become more obvious. In order to maintain a youthful complexion for as long as possible, it is important to address early signs of age, such as sagging skin and fine lines, before they get worse. Until recently, the only way to address severe facial laxity was via facelift surgery. At Cosmos Aesthetics Sydney, we offer thread lifts, a minimally invasive treatment that bridges the gap between cosmetic injectables and invasive surgery.

Am I a candidate for a thread lift?

Thread lifts are an ideal treatment for patients who are beginning to notice the signs of age and wish to prevent them from worsening. If you want to lift and tighten loose skin on the face and neck, you are likely a good candidate for a thread facelift. The typical thread lift patient is usually somewhere between their mid-thirties to early fifties.

Keep in mind that a thread lift creates subtle, natural-looking results and, as such, are more suitable for patients with mild to moderate skin laxity. If your skin sagging is severe, you may be better suited to a surgical facelift. Despite this, a thread lift may be a suitable alternative for older patients who are unable or unwilling to undergo facelift surgery. Regardless of age, the best way to determine whether a thread lift is right for you is to book a consultation at Cosmos Aesthetics.

How do I prepare for a thread lift?

Before your thread lift appointment, there are numerous things you should do to prepare. The main thing is to avoid any potential blood thinners for at least a week before treatment. This includes alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, omega-3 supplements, and vitamin E. You should also avoid smoking for a week beforehand, as this can dehydrate the skin and increase anaesthesia-related risks. Your cosmetic practitioner will provide you with more before treatment care during your consultation.

Do thread lifts have any side effects?

As a minimally invasive procedure, thread lifts are relatively low risk. However, as with any medical procedure, you may experience some temporary side effects, such as swelling, bruising and redness. These usually resolve within a matter of days.

In some instances, you may develop an infection in the treated area, which may require a course of antibiotics to treat. Some patients also experience numbness in the treated area; however, you should regain sensation within a few weeks.

It is also possible for the threads to be become visible beneath the skin, especially in patients with thin skin. However, this is a rarer complication that can be avoided by selecting an experienced practitioner. On some very rare occasions, your sutures may shift from their original placement. This can lead to an unbalanced facial appearance and dimpling. These complications can be addressed by inserting new threads.

Should I have a facelift or a thread lift?

Facial threads are often described as a minimally invasive alternative to the surgical facelift. While both of these treatments aim to tighten lax skin, the methods vary greatly, and some patients are better suited to one over the other.

A facelift is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess sagging skin on the face and neck. During the procedure, excess fat may also be removed, or repositioned and facial muscles are surgically tightened. This procedure can create dramatic results and take years off your appearance. Results are also long-lasting and can last for up to ten years.

However, as an invasive procedure performed under general anaesthesia, a facelift is associated with a long list of risks and a lengthy recovery time of up to six weeks. It can also be an expensive procedure, sometimes costing up to $20,000.

On the other hand, a thread lift is a walk-in, walk-out procedure that provides instant results. Thread lift results usually last for up to three years. While the effects are more subtle than a surgical facelift, facial threading provides a great way to see how a more permanent procedure may look like in the future.

Unlike a traditional facelift, a thread lift requires no downtime and has far fewer risks. It is also a much more inexpensive option, with procedures starting from $1,750 here at Cosmos Aesthetics Sydney.

The right procedure for you will depend on the degree of skin ageing and your desired cosmetic outcome. During a consultation at Cosmos Aesthetics, one of our experienced doctors will examine your facial features and recommend which procedure may best suit your needs.
