    THE TREATMENT

What happens during a lip enhancement treatment

During a lip enhancement procedure, numbing cream and an ice pack is used to numb the treatment area to help minimise any discomfort. Either a doctor or registered cosmetic nurse will then inject the product into the lips and lip area – resulting in beautiful, luscious lips. While you may feel a slight pinch as the product is injected, the procedure is relatively painless. Once the product is injected, your injector will apply pressure to the treatment area with gauze. Immediate results are seen after the treatment.

Volume Enhancement Treatments are natural complex sugars that give volume to the skin. When used for lip enhancement, the treatment helps to restore volume and body and define the border of the lips. A lip enhancement can effectively improve the overall appearance and beauty of one’s facial features.

At Cosmos Clinic, we only inject the highest quality of Volume Enhancement Treatment products sourced from one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical manufacturers. These Volume Enhancement Treatments are made from natural substances and are commonly used to augment the lips. Product selection will vary according to the patient’s requirements and their desired outcome.

    POST TREATMENT

What to expect after a lip enhancement treatment

One of the best things about dermal lip enhancement is that it is a relatively simple treatment that can be performed during your lunch break, after work or at the start of your weekend. As a walk-in, walk-out procedure, patients are free to resume their normal activities immediately after treatment. However, as the lips and mouth are sensitive areas, you will likely experience minor swelling for approximately one to two days following the procedure. In some cases, mild swelling and bruising may persist for up to one week around the injection site. You will also need to avoid wearing make-up for the first 24 hours following the procedure.

If swelling and tenderness is causing discomfort, we recommend applying a cool compress to the lips for ten minutes every hour. Be sure not to apply the ice or cool compress directly to the lips and wrap it in a small towel instead. Avoiding any strenuous exercise or excessive heat for a minimum of 24 hours can also help keep tenderness and swelling under control.

Patients should also stay hydrated following a lip enhancement treatment and avoid smoking and alcohol for at least 24 hours. If pain relief is required for whatever reason, paracetamol should be taken instead of aspirin or ibuprofen. However, your cosmetic injector will provide more thorough aftercare instructions during your treatment.

Results of this cosmetic procedure are seen immediately after the initial treatment; however, full results are evident approximately one week after all the swelling subsides. Results last approximately for six to 12 months and can vary from patient to patient.

How much does lip enhancement cost

The cost of your dermal lip enhancement treatment will depend on a variety of factors, including the amount of product required and the type of product used. At Cosmos Clinic, we understand that every patient is different and will require a personalised treatment plan to address their cosmetic concerns and goals. The best way to determine how much your lip augmentation treatment will cost is to book a consultation with one of our experienced cosmetic injectors.

    • Prices start from $350
    • Discounts are available for additional syringes
    • Initial consultation is between $120 – $150, redeemable upon treatment

*Results may vary from patient to patient.

Am I a candidate for lip enhancement?

If you are concerned by the size of your lips and wish to boost volume, minimise lip lines, define the lip border and enhance your lip shape, then you’re likely a good candidate for lip enhancement. Both men and women can undergo the treatment and you must be 18 years old and above.

What brands of lip enhancement do you use?

Advertising guidelines in Australia prohibit us from stating which product brands we use. Since it is classified as prescription medicine, only a doctor can prescribe Volume Enhancement Treatments. Given this, you must have a consultation at our clinic to determine whether lip injections are suitable for you. At Cosmos Aesthetics, we use high-quality products from a range of well-trusted brands. If you’d like to learn more, we can talk freely about your options during a consultation.

Does lip enhancement have any side effects?

Most patients tolerate lip enhancement very well, even after years of repeated treatments. However, just like any other medical procedure, there are some temporary side effects to be aware of, including swelling, redness, and bruising. These normally resolve within a few hours or days.

Some patients may develop some rarer complications, such as infection or lumps. The good news is that the product can be dissolved with a special enzyme in cases where patients need to reverse the product to address these complications.

In some extremely rare cases, the product can be injected into the blood vessels instead of beneath the skin. This can block blood supply and lead to skin death and, in severe cases, blindness. This is why you should always see a highly experienced cosmetic injector who knows how to avoid these complications.

How long does lip enhancement last?

Keep in mind that lip enhancement is not permanent and will eventually be absorbed by the body. How fast this happens will depend on factors such as the type of product used and your skin type, lifestyle, and age. Generally, you can expect lip enhancement to last for around six months, although some patients metabolise the product quicker or slower than this.

How do I prepare for lip enhancement?

There are numerous things that you should do to prepare for a lip enhancement treatment. The most important is to avoid anything that may thin the blood for around a week beforehand, including alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, omega 3, and vitamin E. If you are prone to cold sores, we recommend talking to your doctor about taking prophylactic medication before treatment. If you have had a recent COVID-19 vaccination, you will need to wait at least two weeks before scheduling a treatment.

    Does lip enhancement hurt?

At Cosmos Clinic, we always numb the lips before administering Volume Enhancement Treatment injections, which keeps the treatment relatively comfortable. Many patients report feeling a slight pressure or stinging sensation as the product is injected; however, whether or not you find it painful will depend on the area treated and your own pain tolerance.

What can I do if I don’t like my results?

If you are unhappy with your treatment results, you have a few options. If you’d prefer an even more augmented look or need to balance some asymmetry, your injector can administer more product. Alternatively, if you are unhappy, we can inject an enzyme into the treatment area that dissolves the product completely.

How much product do I need?

Every patient will require a different amount of product, depending on their natural lip shape and desired results. If you are looking for a natural enhancement, we usually suggest beginning with a single syringe or 1ml. However, if you find that this is not enough, we encourage you to return to Cosmos Clinic to determine whether additional mls of product can help you achieve your aesthetic goals. During your consultation, your cosmetic injector will discuss how much Volume Enhancement Treatment will best help you achieve your preferred outcome.

Where else can Volume Enhancement Treatment be injected?

Aside from the lips, we use Volume Enhancement Treatments to plump and soften various other areas of the face, including the:

    • Temples
    • Tear troughs
    • Cheeks
    • Nasolabial folds
    • Marionette lines
    • Chin
    • Jowls
