THE RESULTS
What are Wrinkle Reduction Treatments?
Wrinkle Reduction Treatments, also known as neuromodulators or neurotoxins, work below the skin’s surface to stop the movement of underlying muscles. The treatment is typically used to soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in areas such as frown lines, forehead wrinkles and crow’s feet.
When injected directly into the muscles, neuromodulators block the nerve impulses between muscle cells. Over the course of seven to 14 days, the injected areas start to look smoother, refreshed, and lifted in appearance. For individuals who feel they appear tired despite adequate rest, Wrinkle Reduction Treatments may help improve this appearance, but individual results and perceptions may vary.
Why choose wrinkle cosmetic injections at Cosmos Aesthetics Sydney?
When it comes to wrinkle cosmetic injectables, experience is very important. We’ve been treating patients from Sydney, as well as international visitors, for over ten years. There are many reasons why neuromodulator injections are considered the number one cosmetic treatment. It is minimally invasive, only takes a few minutes, and produces consistent results.
Who is the best candidate for wrinkle relaxers?
The ideal candidate for Wrinkle Reduction Treatments is someone who is physically healthy, has no history of neuromuscular disease (such as multiple sclerosis), and is not pregnant or breastfeeding. All skin types and tones are eligible for wrinkle removal treatment. Patients with certain allergies may also not be suitable for this treatment.
You may benefit from treatment if you want to address frown lines, forehead furrows, crow’s feet, a square or wide jaw, hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), smoker’s lines, bunny lines or droopy eyebrows.
During your consultation at Cosmos Aesthetics Sydney, one of our experienced doctors or nurses will assess your eligibility for the treatment by considering your health and discussing your expectations for treatment.

THE PROCEDURE
Wrinkle Reduction Treatments work as muscle relaxers, as they block the impulses from nerves that are responsible for muscle movement. When the muscles are relaxed after about three days, they will not contract and cause the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines by creasing the skin. This results in smooth-looking and refreshed overlying skin. During the procedure, five to ten tiny injections will be needed per area, while the medical professional will use cold packs and preserved saline to ensure that the patient feels comfortable. Topical anaesthetic cream is not necessary for the procedure. Results can last for three to eight months, varying from patient to patient.
Common treatment areas are:
It is common for muscles to excessively contract underneath the skin in these areas, causing the skin to crease and create wrinkles. Patients usually wish to address the appearance of these wrinkles and creases as they often find them undesirable. Certain skin concerns, such as lines that do not disappear when the skin is stretched out, may be improved with wrinkle relaxer treatment but not completely removed. In this case, methods such as Volume Enhancement Treatments or collagen stimulators can be helpful.
Wrinkle relaxer injections are also used to:
The consultation is a key part of the process. During your consultation in Sydney, your injector will ask you some questions to better understand your goals and concerns. During your actual appointment they will disinfect the area, ask you to make specific facial expressions such as to frown or squint, and then proceed with injecting a small amount of neuromodulator directly into each muscle.
What to expect after the procedure
Immediately after treatment, you may have tiny little raised bumps at the injection site. This normally clears up within 15 to 30 minutes and you can return to work almost immediately. Bruising may also occur but should subside within a few days to one week. Some patients may notice some minor headaches as a small symptom, but this will subside quite quickly as the muscle relaxing nature of the treatment can actually help to reduce migraines. You will be given post-procedure instructions that are suited to your individual treatment details.
These recovery instructions or tips may include to avoid touching or rubbing the treated area for about eight hours and refraining from vigorous activities. You may also be instructed to try not to bend over or lay down for four hours after treatment. It is a good idea to avoid exposure to heated areas, such as saunas, for the first few days after treatment and ensure that you keep the treated areas clean. Try to move the muscles in the treated area in the first few hours after treatment to increase the action and onset of the injections.
Patients typically start seeing results after five to seven days and can see full results after two weeks. The effects will continue to develop gradually over time. As the muscles become less active, fine lines and wrinkles will become less visible. At the two-week mark, your results are fully developed, and any necessary touch ups can be done at this time.
Wrinkle Reduction Treatments usually cause muscle relaxation of the injected area three to five days after the injection. The full effects may not be seen for two weeks, however, this may vary from patient to patient. Cosmos Aesthetics encourages all patients to return for their complimentary follow-up appointment after two weeks.
The results of the wrinkle relaxers can last from three to eight months, with patients typically needing to update their results on an average of two to three times per year. The amount of regular treatments patients will need will vary for each individual as it depends on how quickly the results of the wrinkle relaxers will fade.
How much do Wrinkle Reduction Treatments cost in Sydney?
The price of Wrinkle Reduction Treatment treatments will differ from person to person. This is because the cost will depend on factors such as the areas being treated, the amount of units used for Wrinkle Reduction Treatments, and procedure time. The main influence of the total costs will be the amount of units that will be needed, with patients typically needing about 10 to 20 for one treatment area. This will depend on the patient’s individual condition, including the strength of the muscles and the depth of the wrinkles in the treatment area.
An individual consultation at Cosmos Aesthetics Sydney can help you to get a better idea of what your total treatment price will be. As a rough guide pricing can start from:
What are the risks and complications?
Minor swelling, redness, or bruising may be experienced after treatment, but these symptoms will subside within hours or days. Most patients do not experience complications after treatment. Wrinkle Reduction Treatments are not absorbed by the blood stream and will only affect the targeted muscles. The injections will be eliminated from the body within a few days after treatment, but the targeted muscles will respond to the treatment for three to four months, as the ability of the nerve impulse to travel to the muscle will be effectively blocked.
While no long term or serious health hazards have been linked to Wrinkle Reduction Treatments, some mild side effects can be experienced after treatment, such as:
How long do the wrinkle relaxer results last?
The muscle relaxing effects normally last about three to eight months, before the treatment will need to be repeated in order to maintain the results. If you choose to stop getting Wrinkle Reduction Treatments at any point, the treated areas will simply return to normal without any permanent changes. The short-lived nature of Wrinkle Reduction Treatments is another major advantage of this procedure over more permanent anti-aging techniques, as it allows for flexibility when managing results.
What’s the difference between dynamic and static wrinkles?
Dynamic wrinkles result from repeated muscle movement in areas such as the frown, forehead and crow’s feet. During our teens, 20s and 30s, dynamic wrinkles are not visible when the face is at rest. Over time, however, as we lose the natural collagen and elasticity in our skin, dynamic lines turn into static wrinkles that are visible even when the face is not moving.
Static wrinkles are more difficult to treat because they have become “etched” into the skin. They may also be caused by other reasons such as sun damage and ageing. In most cases, Anti-Wrinkles Injections will not improve the appearance of static lines. Treatments such as laser, ultrasound therapy and CIT (collagen induction therapy) may be necessary to address them.
Are Wrinkle Reduction Treatments non-toxic?
Wrinkle Reduction Treatments have been clinically proven to be non-toxic even in large doses. They were originally used to treat neurological disorders such as muscle spasms, cerebral palsy and other ailments. The amount of neurotoxin used in these cases is considerably higher than what is typically used cosmetically. The medication leaves the system after a few days and has no history of bioaccumulation or serious side effects.
As well as reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, can this treatment actually prevent lines and wrinkles from worsening over time?
This popular cosmetic injectables treatment will not only smoothen the wrinkles and lines that are present, it can help to prevent these imperfections from becoming worse with time, as well. This is because when muscles are treated with wrinkle relaxers, they will weaken over time, and not be able to contract as much. Once the effects of the injection start to wear off, lines and wrinkles may become more visible, but they will not be as visible as they were before treatment.
The natural skin healing process, which involves collagen remodelling, will also repair the damaged collagen beneath the wrinkles and “fill in” the lines that are present. Repeated treatments over time may lead to more noticeable results. However, the extent to which lines and wrinkles diminish varies among individuals. Thanks to the muscle relaxing nature of the injections, no new wrinkles or lines will be formed in the treated areas, either.
Do Wrinkle Reduction Treatments hurt?
The Wrinkle Reduction Treatment procedure should be comfortable. Any mild sensations such as pinching or prickling from the needle should be tolerable, as the needles are very fine. In fact, Wrinkle Reduction Treatments may also be effective in treating pain that is caused by contracting muscles and can be used to reduce the symptoms of headaches or migraines in some patients.
