Non-surgical buttock procedures utilise hyaluronic acid to adjust the size and structure of the buttocks. Unlike surgical options such as a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), this approach does not involve fat transfer or implants.

How is a Non-Surgical BBL performed?

A Non-Surgical Brazilian Butt Lift is a same-day treatment performed under local anaesthetic. Here’s what to expect on the day:

1. While standing, the treatment area is marked to plan the placement of the filler.
2. The area is cleaned thoroughly to maintain hygiene.
3. Local anaesthetic is administered, and a small needle creates an entry point for the cannula.
4. Using a blunt cannula, the filler is deposited evenly with a fanning technique.
5. Multiple sessions may be required, spaced 3–4 weeks apart.

Is a Non-Surgical BBL Painful?

Discomfort during the procedure is typically mild and comparable to other injectable treatments, such as lip or cheek fillers. Local anaesthetic is used during the treatment, and additional pain relief is available if needed.

After the procedure, mild pain and tenderness may occur at the injection site and can usually be managed with over-the-counter pain relief, such as paracetamol. Bruising and swelling are common and typically resolve within a few days.

How long do results last?

Results are temporary as the hyaluronic acid is gradually absorbed by the body. The duration of results ranges from 6 to 24 months, depending on factors like metabolism, body type, and lifestyle.

Potential Risks and Considerations

While this procedure is generally considered safe, it carries some risks and considerations:

• Swelling and Bruising: Mild and temporary, typically resolving within a few days.
• Infection: Rare but possible; maintaining hygiene is critical.
• Lumps or Unevenness: Can occur but may be corrected with massage or additional sessions.
• Allergic Reaction: Uncommon with hyaluronic acid but possible in sensitive individuals.
• Migration of Filler: Rare, but the filler may move from the injection site.
• Discomfort: Some patients may feel tenderness in the treated area.

Recovery and Aftercare

After the treatment, patients can sit normally and are usually prescribed a course of antibiotics for 5 days to reduce infection risk. Mild bruising, swelling, redness, and a tightening sensation may be experienced for 2–5 days.

To optimise recovery:

• Avoid vigorous exercise for 24 hours post-procedure.
• Refrain from taking blood-thinning medications for 3 days.
• Avoid intense buttock exercises, such as squats, for 3 weeks.
