Slim, tone, and sculpt the thighs with Vaser Liposuction. This body contouring procedure can remove stubborn fat pockets from the inner and outer thighs, as well as the front and back of the thighs. Vaser liposuction is a minimally invasive procedure, so you can achieve a new thigh contour with minimal downtime or pain.
We offer liposuction to the thighs at all of our Cosmos Clinics (Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Gold Coast and Canberra). After the procedure, you will be able to enjoy a slimmer thigh contour. The fat on your thighs will be more evenly distributed, and the Vaser technology used in our practice also works to tighten the skin, so you won’t need to worry about having loose skin after the procedure.
For those who aren’t quite ready for surgery, we also offer a non-surgical liposuction alternative called CoolSculpting, which can achieve more subtle results.
Remove stubborn fat deposits and tighten the skin for natural-looking results
Here at Cosmos Clinic, all of our liposuction procedures are performed via Vaser technology. Vaser (“Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance”) is the newest advancement in liposuction and uses ultrasonic energy to break apart fat cells before they are removed from the body.
Vaser is considered a far gentler alternative to traditional liposuction techniques. In the past, liposuction was not as refined, with many surgeons comparing the process to trying to suck a brick of fat out through a straw. This resulted in a more painful procedure with longer recovery times. On the other hand, Vaser delivers ultrasound heat, which separates fat cells from the fibrous tissue to create a more butter-like consistency. This process makes the unwanted fat much easier to remove from the body. Furthermore, the ultrasound heat delivered with Vaser also tightens the skin, which minimises the amount of skin laxity after the procedure.
Your thigh liposuction procedure will be performed under twilight sedation and local anaesthesia, although you can opt for a general anaesthetic if preferred. Once numb, your Cosmos Clinic surgeon will make a tiny incision, likely in the groin crease, bikini line or buttock crease, to insert the Vaser probe. This probe is moved back and forth in order to heat and liquefy the unwanted fat cells. As the tissue is broken apart, your surgeon will use a cannula to vacuum the fat out of the body.
Liposuction forms the core of our practice here at Cosmos Clinic. In fact, we were the first practice in New South Wales to use Vaser technology, which we now use Australia wide to treat unwanted thigh fat. Today, we own more Vaser systems than anywhere else in the world.
You can undergo your thigh liposuction consultation and subsequent procedure at any of our cosmetic clinics in Australia. We have clinics in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Gold Coast and Canberra.
If you aren’t from any of these cities, don’t worry – we treat several interstate and overseas patients every year. Given this, we have set procedures in place for those travelling to us for surgery. If you are considering this, please send us images of your thighs and let us know which clinic you’d like to visit and where you are located. That way, our staff can provide you with all of the appropriate information in a personalised quote.
Since thigh liposuction is a minimally invasive procedure, patients can usually return home on the same day as surgery. You can expect to experience some mild pain and discomfort, however, your surgeon will prescribe medications to help relieve this. It is also normal to experience some fluid seepage from your incision sites for around 24 hours after surgery. Despite this, recovery is ultimately quite easy, and most patients can return to work within two to seven days.
To reduce swelling, ease healing and help the skin retract, patients must wear a compression garment for three weeks full time and three weeks part-time after surgery. We also encourage our patients to return to the clinic for regular follow up lymphatic massages to improve healing further, usually twice a week for two weeks.
Before your thigh liposuction procedure, be sure to familiarise yourself with the do’s of liposuction recovery:
Do wear your liposuction compression garments
Do maintain a healthy diet
Do listen to your body
Do take care of your surgical sites
Do attend post-surgical checkups
Benefits of Vaser Liposuction
Reduce Unwanted Fat: Vaser uses ultrasound heat to melt stubborn fat before it is removed from the thighs. This makes the liposuction process much easier, giving you smoother results.
More Gentle Than Traditional Liposuction: As fat is melted and liquefied before removal, it is much easier to remove from the body. Offering a gentler alternative to traditional liposuction, Vaser results in less pain, reduced bruising and faster recovery times.
Improve Skin Laxity: In addition to removing fat, the heat generated by the Vaser probe also promotes collagen production to tighten the skin. After surgery, you can expect to have less skin laxity than with a traditional liposuction procedure.
While the thighs are a common area of concern for many patients, everyone accumulates thigh fat in different areas. The thighs can be broken down into the following areas:
Inner Thighs: The inner thigh is considered the area inside the thighs, just below the groin. The inner thigh extension includes everything between the inner thigh and the top of the knee.
Outer Thighs: The outer thigh is the area on the outer thigh commonly referred to as “saddlebags”. The outer thigh extension runs from the hip to the top of the knee.
Front of Thighs: The front of the thighs is the area on the front of your thigh, running from the groin to the top of the knee.
Backs of Thighs: The back of the thighs is the part of the thigh you sit on, again, running from the buttocks to the top of the knee.
How much does thigh liposuction cost?
We know how much cost factors into your decision to undergo liposuction to the thighs. However, Vaser liposuction does not fit a one price fits all strategy, and costs will vary from patient to patient. Your thigh liposuction cost will depend on various factors, such as:
The amount of fat removed
The type of anaesthetic used
The patient’s body type
The amount of time spent in the operating theatre
At Cosmos Clinic, our thigh liposuction procedures start at $4,400. However, if you wish to address multiple body areas in the one procedure, this can minimise overall costs and recovery times. For each additional area treated, we charge $1,750 on top of the base price. To receive the most accurate liposuction quote, we recommend booking a consultation with one of our surgeons.
Am I a candidate for liposuction to the thighs?
Not everyone is a candidate for surgery. You may be a suitable candidate for thigh liposuction if you fit the following criteria:
You experience stubborn pockets of fat in the thighs
You have realistic expectations of what thigh liposuction can achieve
You are in good physical and mental health
You are willing to follow healthy exercise and diet habits after the procedure
You have good skin elasticity
You are a non-smoker, or are prepared to quit in the weeks before and after surgery
Of course, the above is just a guide: to determine whether you are a suitable candidate for thigh liposuction, your best bet is to meet with one of our surgeons for a consultation.
How do I prepare for liposuction surgery?
To help you prepare for the procedure, your surgeon will provide you with specific pre-operative instructions during your consultation. To prevent surgical complications, patients must quit smoking at least two weeks prior to surgery, and your surgeon may also ask that you avoid certain medications and supplements. To make your recovery more comfortable, we recommend purchasing some comfortable clothes, filling any needed prescriptions and preparing some healthy meals before your procedure. You will also need to arrange for someone to pick you up from the hospital and assist with tasks at home for a few days.
How painful is the procedure?
During your thigh liposuction procedure, you will be placed under twilight sedation and local anaesthesia. As a result, you should not feel any pain during surgery. While discomfort is normal during recovery, your surgeon will prescribe medications to alleviate this.
How long does the procedure take?
The length of your thigh liposuction procedure will depend on the amount of fat removed and whether you are treating other areas of the body at the same time. As a general rule, you can expect your procedure to take between one and four hours to complete.
How many procedures will I need?
Our Cosmos Clinic surgeons always endeavour to achieve optimal fat reduction results in a single procedure. However, patients who wish to remove large amounts of fat may require a second procedure to achieve their preferred results. Your surgeon will advise whether you will benefit from additional procedures during your consultation.
When will I see the results of my thigh liposuction?
While you may notice a subtle improvement in your thigh contour immediately after surgery, your thighs will also be quite swollen. You will need to wait for post-operative swelling to subside and the skin to retract and tighten before your final results appear. Over the next three to six months, your results will gradually improve, with the final result being visible at around six months after surgery.
Are thigh liposuction results permanent?
After your liposuction procedure, the fat cells removed from the thighs will never return. However, the remaining fat cells can grow in size, so it is still possible for you to gain weight. To ensure you enjoy your results for years to come, we strongly recommend making lifestyle changes after surgery, such as eating a healthier diet and exercising more regularly.
How much fat will my surgeon remove from my thighs?
Depending on your aesthetic goals and the amount of thigh fat, your Cosmos Clinic surgeon will remove between three and five litres of fat during your Vaser liposuction procedure. Unfortunately, removing more than this can put your safety and comfort at risk. According to one study, removing more than five litres of fat can increase complication rates by 3.7 percent. If you wish to remove more than five litres of fat from the thighs, you will need to undergo multiple liposuction procedures.
Can I remove fat from other areas of the body at the same time as my thighs?
Many patients wish to remove fat from multiple areas of the body during a single liposuction procedure. In addition to the thighs, common treatment areas include the abdomen, flanks, hips, back and arms.
Will I have noticeable scars after thigh liposuction?
While scarring is an inevitable part of any surgical procedure, significant scarring following liposuction is uncommon. After all, the incisions required to insert the Vaser probes are only small, and your surgeon will place them in areas of the thighs that can be easily hidden. With proper scar management, any noticeable scars will fade over time.
What are the risks and complications associated with thigh liposuction?
Although Vaser is regarded as safer than traditional liposuction, every invasive procedure comes with risks. However, serious complications are rare, and we’ve performed thousands of thigh liposuction procedures without incident. Some of the potential side effects you may experience after surgery include:
Bruising and bleeding
Pain and aching
Loose skin that doesn’t adjust to your new thigh contour
