Everyone has a favourite part of their body they love, especially during the best of our years in our late teens and 20s. Our skin is smooth and full in volume and we are leaner with flat stomachs and virtually no cellulite.
If only we could stay like this into our 30s and retain at least some of our youth in our 40s. After all, by the time most of us finish our education and cement a stable career – ready and waiting to attract the right partner – our best years are already behind us.
Thankfully there are simple procedures available to preserve our youth and hold on to our most loved parts of our body. Keep that perky butt, stay wrinkle free and enjoy those lovely legs for longer!
The birth of a child is described as one of the most beautiful occurrences in human nature. Unfortunately it’s also problematic for preserving youthful beauty. Tummy liposuction is a post-pregnancy option for mothers who are left with excess skin and fat that is difficult to get rid of – no matter how much dieting and exercise a new mother has time for.
Known as “Mummy Tummy Magic”, this procedure involves the use of Vaser Liposuction to remove fat cells and Laser Skin Tightening to reduce sagging skin by heating and contracting collagen fibres. This walk-in-walk-out procedure can be carried out six months after giving birth and requires a four day wait before breast feeding to allow the anaesthetic to fully excrete from the body.
Abdominoplasty, or a Tummy Tuck, is a more extensive operation that removes excess skin and fat and tightens muscles in the abdominal wall that have suffered laxity caused from abnormal stretching during pregnancy. This can result in a bulging stomach that is virtually impossible to restore back to youthful flatness. A Tummy Tuck is a major surgery requiring a general anaesthetic and is best for mothers after they have had all of their children.
Striae, or Stretch Marks, are almost guaranteed to come with pregnancy and is a condition also suffered by many men. Broad Band Light (BBL) can be an effective treatment for stretch marks by removing the upper layer of skin to stimulate collagen remodelling. Fractional Laser Resurfacing, which works similarly to BBL, has also seen impressive results in improving the appearance of the older, white stretch marks.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a treatment that works well in combination with BBL and Fractional Laser Resurfacing to remove stretch marks and can be a sole treatment on its own. Platelets are extracted from a sample of the patient’s blood and injected into the area requiring treatment. This plasma is rich in stem cells and growth factor proteins that rejuvenate skin.
There are many factors in the modern age that can cause premature wrinkles and a lot of this damage is done in our teens and 20’s. We are blessed in our youth that too much drinking, smoking and sunbathing won’t cause any immediate damage but as soon we approach our 30’s, signs of ageing begin to appear. Fortunately, all of the treatments used for stretch marks also happen to be effective wrinkle treatments.
Other minimally invasive options specifically designed to remove wrinkles are also available such as Anti Wrinkle Injections. The naturally derived bacterium Clostridium Botulinum relaxes muscle movement and softens fine lines and wrinkles after a few days and last up to three months. Chemical Peels are another lunchtime treatment that use Alpha Hydroxyl Acid (AHA) to remove dead skin and help living skin thicken and retain water. Dermal Fillers also help the skin retain water by using naturally found in the dermis; adding volume and smoothing out wrinkles. Fillers are injected below the skin with minimal pain over a 20-30 minute procedure.
Facial pigmentation experienced throughout pregnancy known as Chloasma, or the Mask of Pregnancy, is suffered by around 70% of women. This skin condition is caused by an overproduction of melanin triggered by hormones and appears as blotchy patches around the face. Most women will see chloasma disappear within the first few months after pregnancy but some may experience prolonged effects. Laser Skin Tightening with BBL removes irregular pigmentation by gently heating the upper layer of the skin that stimulates collagen remodelling. BBL treatment only takes 30 minutes and results can be seen after two to three treatments.
Legs and Buttocks
Those perfectly toned calves don’t stay that way forever. Our muscle-to-fat ratio seesaws in the latter direction as we age and our metabolism becomes less effective at burning fat. Many women suffer from high density fat stores in their calves but Calf Contouring can solve this with Vaser Liposuction. Another technique involving Muscle Relaxant injections will slim down bulky calves for women who have overdeveloped muscular calves caused from years of wearing high heels.
Spider Veins or Reticular Veins affect most women, especially after pregnancy. Long periods of sitting or standing, birth control pills and hormone replacement therapy can also cause these unwanted blood cells to appear in any part of the leg. With Sclerotherapy, patients can expect a 50% – 90% improvement after several treatments. The treatment involves a series of injections of a solution to collapse the problematic veins with no anaesthesia required.
Hormonal changes, weight gain and ageing will inevitably render cellulite. This can be one of the most frustrating conditions women suffer as it is not necessarily caused by fat. Nevertheless, a liposuction technique using the Laser Lipo Wand will heat superficial layers of fat and stimulate collagen production in the skin structures that cause cellulite. A landmark study in the November/December 2008 issue of Aesthetic Surgery Journal found 80% of patients reported an 80% improvement in their cellulite after only one treatment of the Laser Lipo Wand.
If age hasn’t been kind to the shape of your behind, a two-stage procedure known as Buttock Contouring will reshape and smooth your butt before walking out of the surgery the same day. Minimally invasive Vaser Liposuction removes unwanted fat in the first stage and the Laser Lipo Wand is applied to smooth out the skin for the second stage.
