What are capillaries?

Broken capillaries or Telangiectasia, are one of the most common facial skin conditions for which patients seek treatment. These unsightly dilated blood vessels are seen almost exclusively in patients with fair skin. Contrary to popular opinion, facial telangiectasia is not associated with alcohol abuse, but instead with chronic sun exposure, rosacea, overuse of cortisone creams, certain autoimmune diseases and it is sometimes hereditary. In many cases, the exact cause is unknown.

How are capillaries and redness treated?

At Cosmos Clinic a Sciton BBL Laser is used to remove the broken capillaries with minimal downtime. The laser emits a light which is absorbed by the haemoglobin in the blood. The blood absorbs the laser energy more than the surrounding tissue and therefore the blood vessel can be selectively clotted without causing damage to the skin.

Does Laser Treatment for capillaries hurt?

No anaesthesia is needed for treatment of Facial Telangiectasia; the laser pulses feel like little ‘snaps’ and can be easily tolerated by most patients. In most cases a transparent cooling gel is used on the skin to increase comfort and decrease superficial blistering. You may be red for 24 to48 hours after the treatment however you can apply make up during this time.

How many Laser Treatments will I need?

In some cases (especially in larger, high flow Telangiectasia around the nose) there may be an improvement instead of complete resolution after the initial treatment. It is much safer to re-treat than to run the risk of scarring; anticipate a re-treatment about a month after the initial treatment for best results. You may need 3 to 4 treatments (1 month apart) for best results. To maintain the results a sunscreen needs to be applied daily (* Results may vary from patient to patient).

How effective is Laser Treatment for redness and capillaries?

Treating the skin with the Sciton BBL Laser for redness will result in a marked improvement in the appearance of overall redness, visible capillaries and deliver a more even skin tone.

How much does BBL Laser for redness and capillaries cost?

As a general guide, the cost to treat the cheeks and nose is $300,  and the full face $500. You generally will need 3 treatments spaced 1 month apart. You can purchase a package of 3 full face treatments for $1000.

The examples, predictions, and results offered on this website vary from individual to individual. Results take time. They can be seen in as little as 6 weeks. This time may vary considerably depending on each individual. 6 weeks is a typical example. Results are effected by a number of factors, predominantly the way in which a patient follows instructions post surgery and the manner in which the patient behaves generally post surgery. Diet and exercise play an important part in the health and well being of a patient and in the maintenance of their body shape. Results will also vary purely based on the general make up of each patient and whether they have had surgery previously.
